1 GOVERNOR S MESSAGE April Club Quality Initiative The Club Quality Initiative is a strategic planning tool to help clubs identify opportunities for improvement. The program features LCI Forward and involves the whole club in this exciting process to make the club even better. All the necessary tools to run a successful workshop are available on the LCI website ( members.lionsclubs.org/en/clubs/club-quality-initiative.php). Members can choose the meeting format: single day workshop, a meeting series or a half-day session. It s up to you. There are four assessments featuring the components of the LCI Forward strategic wheel. Assessment one focuses on enhancing service impact. Two items of particular interest in this assessment are the Community Needs Survey and LCIF grants. It s important to survey community leaders annually to ensure club service projects are still relevant to current community needs. LCIF is now offering new Leo Clubs service grants up to $5,000 and new Lion Clubs grants are scheduled for release in Assessment two focuses on reshaping public opinion and improving visibility. A Marketing Communications Chairperson Guide is now available for this new board position. LCI offers free clubhouse websites to promote your service projects to the community. Assessment three highlights the pursuit of club organizational excellence. This assessment is essential for the training of club officers and outlines establishing obtainable chair goals for the future. A wide variety of club officer E-books, Your Club Your Way and Club Excellence guidelines are just a few of the resources available online. Assessment four includes improving member value and reaching new markets. New member orientation is vital to success in engaging new members. The Just Ask recruitment guide is much more than inviting prospective members. It outlines all the steps your club should consider prior to recruiting members to ensure there is a welcoming atmosphere at your club meetings. 1
2 Once your club has completed all the necessary steps just fill out the final report and submit it to LCI to receive a club banner patch. Let s plan for both today and tomorrow to build a strong service and leadership foundation for our second century of service! We re already well on our way this month with wonderful service projects. You won t want to miss Leadership Day, VisionWalk, Diabetes Camp and the District Bland Music Competition. Check out this edition for all the details. DG Beth Stevens Lions/Anthem Service Day Over70 Anthem employees partnered with the Lions to bag toiletry kits for the homeless. The kits included soap, lotion and shampoo for distribution by Hampton Roads organizations serving the homeless population. The items were donated by Hospitality for the Homeless, a non-profit organization accepting donations from hotels for use by people in need. Together, over 3,000 kits were packed. Lions have already distributed bags to StandUp for Kids and Norfolk NEST. 2
3 Jeff Gaddis 1st Vice District Governor Lions, Another month gone. Lion s Leadership Day is April 7th, I hope to see everyone in Poquoson for some great training. I hope you are enjoying the weather outside. It s State Convention time get your registration in now. Looks like there will be a lot of fun and good times. We need to make this a great convention, as it is the last time as 6 districts and the last time for 24D. We have Vision Walk the 15th of April, so a busy month. If there are clubs out there that know when they want the governor to come to their club next year, I will start taking requests now. The PU-101 is due soon, make sure you get them entered so we can start getting the directory done. Please make sure the information is correct so we don't have to make a bunch of corrections at the beginning of the year. I still have some positions open on my cabinet and committees. If you are interested, please contact me. Have a great spring and get out and spread the word about LIONS. YOURS IN LIONS, 1VDG Jeff Gaddis Welcome New Members It s always nice to welcome new faces and friends into the Lions Organization. 14 The Final Analysis by Mother Teresa People are often unreasonable, irrational and self-centered. Forgive them anyway If you are kind, people may accuse you of having ulterior motives Be Kind anyway. If you are successful you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies Succeed Anyway What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create Anyway. If you are honest, someone may cheat you. Be Honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. Won t you offer the opportunity and inspire people to be incredible Lions! 14
