2 What is the Read-a-thon? Oh The Places We Will Go! Thornwilde PTA Read-a-thon Feb 18 Mar 2, 2015 The Read-a-thon will be our largest Fundraiser of the year. Participants earn money by reading, logging minutes read and gathering pledges. Participants will set a reading goal and will have the designated days above to reach their goal (March 2 nd is Read Across America Day and Thornwilde Elementary will be participating. Students will get to count minutes read during school on this day only). Participants get pledges from family, friends, neighbors and businesses to support their efforts. Donors can either pledge a certain amount of money per minute read or make a flat donation. How do I get Pledges? Ask friends and family! Register your child at and follow the simple registration steps. It takes just minutes to set-up your child s own fundraising page. If you choose not to participate online, use the pledge tracking form that will be coming home with your child February 18 th. Additional pledge tracking forms, sample pledge request forms and sponsor thank you forms will be available in the office or at These forms are unnecessary for online pledging the system automatically sends requests, thank you s and even a tax receipt! Where can I get the reading rules and forms? Reading rules and log, pledge form, prize coupons, prize flyers, and a business sponsor recognition sheet (several local businesses are supporting our Read-a-thon) will be coming home with your child in the It s a Cinch to Read drawstring backpack on February 18 th. What is our goal? Our #1 goal is to make sure ALL students end the event with a stronger desire to read and a richer knowledge of how the skill of reading affects all aspects of their lives. Reading: We have a school wide goal to read 200k minutes!! If every student reads 20 minutes a day and participates in Read Across America Day we will reach our goal!! Pledging: We hope to collect $12000 in pledges. If every student collects $20, we will reach this goal. What happens if we reach our goal? The students voted and Mrs Thamann will reward the students by going Up Up and Away. The Fire Department is going to help us put Mrs Thamann on the roof where she will remain for an entire day! Why are we raising money? Your support will go to enrich Thornwilde Elementary Students through various PTA commitments. These include but are not limited to Wilde Dad's Field Day/Science Nights; School visits- Native American Speaker, UK Opera Performance, and Penguins; Top Cats Awards; Family Program Events (Summer Luau, Multicultural Night); Art & STEM supplies; Accelerated Reader (AR) Quiz license and Technology. With your help every student will benefit! 2
