1 President s Letter Rhonda Dunn (85), Alumnae Chapter President 2102 S. Broadway. The home to Alpha Gamma Delta since Former home to the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity. The big white (now yellow) house with the columns. When the Collegians go home for the summer this year, a demolition crew will remove our home to make way for a new Alpha Gam house. Progress! For many decades we have wished for a new house and finally it will become a reality. I am sure the thought of demolishing the house that gave us all great memories of our college years will bring some heartache to many of us. How can we possibly tear down our house?? We were one of the early adopters of the concept of Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC). It was a solution to operating the house for the members. It has always been difficult to find volunteers to run the House Association but we managed somehow since FHC is a professional management company for the House and eliminates the need for sisters to be the landlord for other sisters. If a new Alpha Gam house was ever going to be a reality, FHC has the resources to make it happen far better than a bunch of volunteers ever could. I hope you attend IRD in April as we will celebrate together one last time at 2102 S. Broadway. I hope you call your Alpha Gam Sisters and get them to attend as well and enjoy one last trip down memory lane together. When I think of 2102 S. Broadway, I think of living in the basement with Kris Sinn Deason (85), Susan Allen Leonard (85), and Diane Lorenz Smith (85). We were roommates in the room closest to the bathroom. Our home was comprised of two sets of bunk beds, four dressers and four small closets from the fall of 1985 to the spring of Six other women lived in the basement with us and we had one wall telephone to share. Everything that was important happened in that room. We studied, we laughed, we got ready to go out, we helped each other; but I don t remember ever having a fight. I guess it s true that you forget the bad things and only the good memories remain, but I like to think we just got along that well. There were blind dates for a Date Dash or two, Kris had a cadaver cat for some anatomy class, Nutty News Editor, Heather Kalar Rubesch (93) Pittsburg State University Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Spring 2018 Diane had the best dance moves of all times! We listened to Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, and Wham! in that basement. There was always a friend to hang out with or someone to loan you an outfit. The pranks! A friend once put an ad in the paper listing my car for sale and to call before 6:00am. A poor Sig Ep pledge once entered the basement door to a group of screaming Alpha Gams. I wonder how many rolls of toilet paper were strung through the trees at the Alpha Gam house? 2102 S. Broadway gave us many memories that we couldn t have made anywhere else. In the mid- 1980s, twenty-six of us lived in that house together. I wouldn t trade those memories for anything. Make your plans now to come to IRD. Let s share some memories and say thanks to the house that was the backdrop to everything we did in college.

2 Scholarships Awarded at 2017 IRD At IRD 2017, Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter was very pleased to award two local scholarships to members of the collegiate chapter. These two scholarships have been awarded for many years and are completely funded by donation from alumnae of Epsilon Kappa Chapter. A committee of alums serve as a scholarship selection committee and they are impressed every year at the large number of talented young women who submit their applications. The Jacqueline L. Iley Scholarship was award to Kennedy Burks, senior. She graduated from PSU in December 2017 and will begin school at Cleveland Chiropractic in May. Her course of study will take 3 years to become a chiropractor. Iley Scholarship recipient Kennedy Burks of Dodge City, KS The Emajeane Shy Boon Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Matthews, junior. Her major is construction management. She graduates in December 2018 and plans to move to Florida to work for Hensel Phelps. She interned with them in the Summer 2017 and plans to do so again in the Summer of She is blazing a trail as one of few women in the construction management field! Thank you to all the ladies who applied for scholarships in You make us very proud! Boon Scholarship recipient Sarah Matthews of Kansas City, KS Additional 2017 Award Winners Jordyn Showers of Spring Hill, KS received the 2017 Key Award. She graduated in May 2017 with a degree in Plastics Engineering. She moved to Portland, Oregon following graduation to begin a career with Nike as a Process Engineer. Dakota Dusash of Belle Vista, AR was awarded the Connie Yates Brown scholarship for the academic year. This scholarship is awarded by the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation but was funded by Epsilon Kappa Alumnae and friends of Connie to honor her service as International President. Dakota is studying Environmental Safety Management. and will graduate in May After graduation, she has accepted a job with Blattner Energy as a Safety Site Coordinator. She previously interned with them twice. Molly McVey (12) of Overland Park, KS was awarded the Fred and Marie Monk Samp Scholarship by the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. This scholarship endowed by the Samp family is awarded each year to a member of Epsilon Kappa or Epsilon Rho. Molly is a graduate student at the University of Tulsa pursuing a Masters in Art in Museum Science. She gradated from PSU with her BA in Fine Arts with major in 2-D Studio Art and minor in photography. Finally the Spirit of Epsilon Kappa Award was given to Margaret Seidler (76). Margaret was the lyricist who wrote our beloved chapter song Margaret s Song. Alumnae Chapter President Rhonda Dunn had made it her mission to find Margaret following our 50th Anniversary reunion. She had moved out of the country and had lost track with the chapter so it was quite a thrill to have her as an honored guest at IRD last year. She was unaware the huge impact her song had made on many generations of Epsilon Kappa s and that her song is still a big part of our chapter gatherings, weddings, and baby lullabies to this day. Alum Chapter President Rhonda Dunn presents Margaret Seidler with the Spirit of Epsilon Kappa Award at IRD 2017 Page 2

3 Collegiate Chapter 2017 Update January: The women returned to campus and enjoyed getting back in the groove of class. February: The women participated in various events such as the pink elephant sisterhood gift exchange, Week of Service, and Continuous Open Bidding week. During Week of Service we contributed to the worlds work by making and delivering cookies to local law enforcement with help from the brothers of Sigma Tau Gamma. We also volunteered our time at the Humane Society and held a drive for the Safehouse Women s Shelter. Our COB events brought us 4 amazing new women who we pinned. March: We kicked off March watching movies with the men of Pi Kappa Alpha and participating in Sigma Sigma Sigma s 5k to Stop the Tic raising awareness for Tourette s Syndrome. Epsilon Kappa was visited by an amazing Leadership Consultant who facilitated programming on Ritual and spent the week leading up to spring break working on our Airband props. April: April was a busy month! With Gorillathon, Greek Week, Moms Day, Initiation, IRD, and Recruitment training school our women were up to their necks in Alpha Gam! We spent Greek Week competing in the chariot races, canned art, and Airband! The theme was ESPN and we showed up to play! We also participated in the Big Event to keep Pittsburg beautiful and finished that day hosting Mom s Day and showing them the purposeful women we are becoming. We initiated four amazing women, Lauron Hey, Mallory Maryman, Breanna Price, and Kaela Augsburger. We then held our annual IRD at Chicken Mary s and the women had a blast getting to know our amazing Alumnae and getting to meet the ever-famous Margret, composer of the Margret Song. IRD was one that many will not soon forget. May: We ended the semester with senior week to honor our seniors and to show them love in their last week as active chapter members. We also put on our bi annual Mac & Cheese Feed. We partnered with the men of Lambda Chi Alpha and served all day Mac with our proceeds going to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. July: Morgan Kissane (Chapter President), Mackenzie Spaulding (VP Finance), and Peyton Hayworth (Philanthropy) accompanied Cassie Cleaver and Holly Hrabik to The Leadership Conference in Indianapolis. Here the women learned about our new philanthropic focus, Fighting Hunger, and our new officer structure. August: The women came back to Pittsburg and the girls living in the Chapter House began to move into the house. We spent polish week bonding with our sisters and learning more about the Fraternity and the recruiting process. Recruitment week was a success as we pledged 30 new members. The last bid day at the house was full of fun and sisterhood. September: September is Hunger Action month, so Epsilon Kappa spent the month educating PSU and Pittsburg about fighting hunger. Our women also participated in Lambda Chi Alpha s Watermelon Bust and took 1 st place! October: The women worked on the homecoming float with, our partners, the men of Pi Kappa Alpha. Homecoming was a success for both of our chapters and the men joined our Yell Like Hell squad and helped us clinch the 1 st place trophy. November: We had an awesome initiation week and officially initiated 26 members! Feast of Roses put on by our Social Chair, Kaylin Lake, and it was a beautiful event for our new initiates and their families. After the women came back from Thanksgiving we began Big/Little Week which has become a favorite among the collegians and held the reveal in the Oval. December: After holding officer elections in November the outgoing officers spent December training their successors. We also held a Winter Formal that was beautiful, and the women enjoyed spending the evening dancing with their sisters and dates. Epsilon Kappa also hosted Mac & Cheese Feed for the first time by ourselves. The women were dedicated to doing this event alone and with our collective effort we were able to raise just over $1800! The women were so proud of their work and are excited to hold this event again in the spring. Page 3

10 Membership Update Thank you to everyone who helped make our 2017 membership drive successful once again! It is so great to know we can count on our sisters! We are excited about our membership numbers are an all time high! As of now, we have 109 members! Your donations helped to provide a Bid Day lunch and Recruitment Training lunch for the collegiate members as well as some small gifts for the new members and the graduating seniors. We also provide support from time to time for sisters in need. We thank everyone who has contributed to the Alumnae Chapter and made all this support possible. Each year, in addition to awarding our two scholarships, we transfer extra money to the scholarship funds to further our goal to endow both scholarships so they will continue into the future! Money is also allocated to send to the AGD Foundation for the Connie Yates Brown Scholarship, which is awarded through the foundation each year. We will continue to hold our yearly Membership Drive during the summer. Please watch your mail for a letter explaining the details of the Membership Drive. We hope you will continue to support the Epsilon Kappa Alumnae Chapter. 11 Chapter Advisor Report Greetings sisters - It has been a few decades since the fraternity overhauled their officer structure so you can imagine that it was overdue. In order to send our collegians out into the workplace with relevant resume titles and to make our collegiate experience more purposeful, they have totally changed the officer structure starting this Spring. It is certainly an exciting time to be involved with the collegiate chapter as an advisor and get to experience this new and exciting change! Executive Council now has 13 Officer Board members and 13 advisors that also sit on EC. Another 11 directors also help facilitate chapter business. We do have a few open advisor spots if you are looking to volunteer with some amazing young women. I would like to thank the current advisor team for all the time and energy they put in to help make the experience great for our collegians!
