For the school event calendar, please visit our website at For the school sports calendar, including results, please visit our website at NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS Cougar Caritas: Caritas (a Latin word meaning charity and Christian love of humankind) will be held by grade level in four designated months this year. Our junior class will kick off Cougar Caritas on Monday, October 17 th. o Juniors received permission slips through their religion classes for this school-day event. There will be no formal classes for juniors on this day, as teachers also will participate in Cougar Caritas. We ask parents to please help in getting slips signed and returned to students religion teachers as soon as possible. o Juniors will sign up for service projects through Sign-up Genius. Campus Ministry will notify students when projects are available for sign-up. o Please MJ Dawson in Campus Ministry with any questions.
2 Mission Trip Applications Now Available: Due to the overwhelming response to participate in our annual CCHS Mission Trips, we are pleased to announce we have added third Mission Trip, which will be to Puerto Rico. o The Mission Trips to Jamaica and Puerto Rico are available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. o The Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic is available only to juniors and seniors. o Application packets for all Mission Trips are located in Campus Ministry. o Applications must be turned in to Campus Ministry no later than Monday, October 1 st. o Please MJ Dawson in Campus Ministry with any questions. ECU Parent & Student Reception: ECU will host a Parent and Student Reception on Wednesday, October 10 th from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Charlotte Hilton Garden Inn, Waverly Hotel located at 7415 Waverly Walk Avenue. Financial Aid Presentation: Charlotte Catholic is hosting a Financial Aid Presentation Wednesday, September 26 th at 7:00 p.m. in the Library. Our presenter will be Antonio Squire, a Financial Aid Counselor from UNC Chapel Hill s Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. Please come join us. Oyster Roast and Music Jam: Save the date! The St. Gabriel Men s Club will host their annual Oyster Roast and Music Jam on Saturday, October 20 th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Parish Center Hall. CCHS Parents, send your kids off to the Homecoming Dance and come enjoy an evening of great food and music. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements for information on purchasing tickets. 3 CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS GENERAL Cougar Relief Hurricane Florence: Relief efforts are underway to help our neighbors in eastern North Carolina who have been affected by Hurricane Florence. Many of us prepared for the hurricane, and have emergency supplies on hand that we no longer need. Please consider donating those supplies, and more if you are able. From now until Friday, October 5 th, we will collect and organize donated supplies. If you prefer to make a financial contribution, checks may be made payable to CCHS. Please write Hurricane Florence Relief on the memo line. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements for a list of supplies most needed at this time. Together, let s fill a truck to help our neighbors in their time of need! Thank you for your generosity. Lands End Friends and Family Event: Lands End is offering 40% off full-price styles through tomorrow, September 26 th. Please see the flyer at the end of the announcements for additional information. Lands End School Starboard Scholarship: Lands End will award up to seven $10,000 scholarships to students in grades 6 through 12 who display exceptional leadership skills and show a passion for learning and education. The application deadline is December 7 th, but only 3,000 applications will be accepted nationwide, so apply now by clicking here. STUDENT NEWS Current National Honor Society Members: NHS T-shirts are available now. Please note that the deadline to order is tomorrow, September 26 th. Longsleeved shirts are $16 and short-sleeved shirts are $14. Click here to purchase through the online school store. Current NHS students may wear their NHS t- shirts to school every Wednesday with uniform-style shorts or uniform-style pants. Senior Class T-shirts: Senior t-shirts are available now through the online school store. Long-sleeved shirts are $17 and short-sleeved shirts are $15. Click here to purchase. CCHS Mountain Bike Club Team: Mountain Biking is a co-ed sport that is growing nationwide. Come learn more about the new CCHS Mountain Bike

Homecoming Dance Poster Contest: Attention, talented and creative students! We need a poster to advertise the 2018 Homecoming Dance! The winner will receive school-wide acclaim (and a $25 Target gift card)! Here are the details: o The poster must show artwork incorporating the theme, which is New York Nights. o The poster must convey the following information: 2018 Homecoming Dance; Saturday, October 20 th, 2018; 9:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.; in the CCHS Gym; sponsored by the CCHS PTO; buy tickets through the online store; tickets are $10 per person. o The poster size must be at least 8½ x 11, but may be larger. o Your name must be on the back of the poster. o Posters are due no later than noon tomorrow, September 26 th and must be turned in to the front office. o Posters will be judged by the four Administrators. All names will be covered. CAMPUS MINISTRY Club Day: Club Day will be held tomorrow, September 26 th from 2:35 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the gym. Charlotte Catholic has clubs on campus to fit the interests of every student. Club Day is a great opportunity to learn more about the many clubs on campus, which involve service, sports, games, hobbies, art, language, charity, faith, and more. All students are encouraged to learn more, sign up, and become involved! Caritas Service Days: Students, if you are involved in a charity or service project on a regular basis, please contact MJ Dawson in Campus Ministry and let her know for our Caritas Service Days. Thank you. Kairos Retreat: Kairos #42 is scheduled for Friday, October 12 th through Sunday, October 14 th at Camp Thunderbird. The retreat is open to all juniors and seniors. Governor s School is the oldest statewide summer program for gifted and talented students in the nation. Programs include Academics (English, Math, Social Science, Natural Science, Spanish, and French) and the Arts (Visual Art, Choral Music, Instrumental Music, Dance, and Theatre). This highly selective program is open to current juniors in both Academics and the Arts, and to a small number of sophomores in the Arts only. Game Day: Talk, Tour, and Tailgate: Lenoir-Rhyne University is hosting an event on Saturday, September 29 th for students interested in learning more about the school. Students and two guests are invited to attend a Lenoir- Rhyne football game, explore the campus, and learn more about the university. Students and guests receive free game admission and a complimentary dinner. Check-in is at 1:00 p.m., dinner is at 5:15 p.m., and kickoff is at 6:00 p.m. Click here to register. First Look at UNC-Greensboro: Students interested in learning more about UNC-Greensboro are invited to an information session on Sunday, September 30 th at 3:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel. AES Engineers Scholarship: AES Engineers is awarding scholarships intended for future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post-secondary educational facility. You are not required to take Engineering courses to be eligible. SPORTS NEWS Congratulations to Ari Rodriguez, who has been nominated as one of the WSOC-TV Big 22 Players to Watch! Our CCHS community is invited to vote for Ari to become one of five finalists. The voting period closes on Thursday, October 4 th at 11:59 p.m. Should Ari be voted a finalist, a second voting period will open, and if he wins the contest, he receives a trophy and on-air recognition, and CCHS receives $10,000. 7 CCHS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CCHS Athletic Association s 38 th Annual Golf Tournament: The Athletic Association is pleased to invite all CCHS parents to the 38 th Annual Golf Tournament! COMMUNITY NEWS Opportunity for Service Hours: The St. Gabriel Men s Club will hold its annual Oyster Roast on October 20 th, and many hands are needed. Help is needed that day from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for setup, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
