Congratulations to all of the Arizona MESA teams and their supporters for achieving their design goals and competing here at the University of Arizona today. If you have a break in competition, do not leave campus. Please make sure that your chaperone knows where you are at all times. MESA Day 2017 shirts should be worn appropriately by all competing students at all times. Use the trash and recycle receptacles located on the campus to dispose of your garbage. Arrive promptly at your scheduled events. Students arriving late to an event may be disqualified. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early, as some events may run faster than the scheduled times. Be sure to drink plenty of water all day. Be sure to pick up your design projects from their designated competition areas by 12:30 pm. All projects left after this time may be re-used for demonstration purposes or discarded. Take photos of MESA students and advisors that you could share with the Arizona MESA community. 6 MESA Day 2017 Saturday, April 22, 2017 General Reminders for Competition and Specification Check Advisors bring your confirmation form and any missing SIF s to registration between 8:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m. Students must submit all designs to the test sites between 8:00 a.m. 9:30 a.m. for ALL events. We suggest that teams arrive as early as possible to ensure designs have been inspected by 9:30 am. Only one team of eligible students per school will be allowed to compete per event. Each event has a minimum and/or maximum number of team members. Some events have gender requirements. Any designs left in the competition areas after 12:30 will become the property of Arizona MESA and may be reused for demonstration purposes or discarded. Competition-Specific Reminders MESA USA National Engineering Design Competition: Four members required per team; 2 male, 2 female. All student must be present during testing. MESA USA Pilot: Two (2) students should be present during testing. GM-SAE It s Complicated Contraption Challenge: At least two (2) students must be present during testing. Duct Tape Survival Challenge: One (1) student must be present during testing. Golf Ball Delivery Challenge: At least two (2) students must be present for testing. ASCE PVC Bridge: At least two (2) students must be present during building and testing. Designer of the Day: At least two (2) students must be present during the presentation. SHPE On-Site Engineering Design: Each team must consist of four (4) members and will be sequestered for the duration of this event. Competition Arbitration Policy 1. Student competitors must arrive on time to their scheduled events. Late arrivals will not be allowed to compete. 2. Only the student competitor may arbitrate a judge's decision. Assistance from a parent, MESA advisor, or another student is not permitted. 3. Arbitration must occur immediately after the student s design is tested. Late requests for arbitration may not be accepted. 4. Judges have the authority to make all decisions regarding the competition. A decision made by a judge is final and may not be questioned. 5. Once a final decision has been rendered, the student who attempts to continue their appeal will be disqualified from the event and other competitions for which they may be registered. 6. Complaints will not be investigated nor can a ruling be changed after the competition is complete. 7. Discussion and design questions should occur during spec check or your designated testing time.. Students should understand that judges may have other responsibilities that may limit their meeting time. 8. Competitors not adhering to this policy may be disqualified.
