Our highly energetic Student Orientation leaders are also anxiously waiting to welcome you to our TIGER family. As you prepare for the Fall Semester, please pay close attention to the following items: Please make sure that you have completed all admission and financial aid requirements. If not, you will need to contact the Admissions Office ( ) and the Office of Financial Aid ( ). If you need to take any entry exams, please contact Center for Academic Success at: Week of Welcome opening session will be in Tiger Arena 4:15 P.M. August 13th. We are looking forward to the participation of your parents or guest in the sessions. If they would also like to join us for meals, they may purchase meals at any of the dining venues. To address any physical, psychological, social, or mental challenges, please call our Disability Resource Center at If you have not already done so, please come to the ID Card Office at 199 King-Frazier for your official SSU ID Card. If you are staying on campus, please make sure that you visit the Mail Center in King-Frazier to request your mailbox assignment. The SSU Bookstore is located in King-Frazier, and has a rental program and 10% guarantee compared to online booksellers to help you save money on textbooks! Contact the SSU ID Card Office at for questions regarding ID Cards and meal plans. Prior to August 16, you may change your meal plan with Housing between August 18 and August 22 at 3:00 p.m. You may change your meal plan in the ID Card Office. 3 ORIENTATION LEADERS The 2014 Week of Welcome is packed with information and fun. Your Student Orientation Leaders (SOL) are eager to make Orientation 2014 an unforgettable experience. They will serve as guides and mentors during the orientation sessions and will assist you throughout the academic year. FINANCIAL AID Financial aid is available to students who demonstrate the need for assistance to fund their college education. The first step in the process is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You should check with the Office of Financial Aid to make sure that all required documents have been submitted so that the staff may evaluate your request. Student aid programs include grants, employment and loans. For more information about financial aid, contact the office at (912) or visit TESTING Students majoring in the area of Science or Technology must take the Chemistry Placement Test. Testing will be held in Whiting Hall with test reporting time options of 7:45am or 10:45am. Please your name, student ID number and your requested test time to If your major is not in the area of science or technology, you will not be required to take the Chemistry Placement Test. Listed below are the majors that require the Chemistry Placement Exam: Civil Engineering Technology* Computer Science Technology*, Electronics Engineering Technology*, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, and Marine Science Remember COMPASS Testing will be held in Whiting Hall with test reporting time options of 7:45am or 10:45am. Please send your requested test time to Or call FAMILY INVOLVEMENT Family involvement is a crucial ingredient to college success. For that reason, we welcome and encourage parents or guardians to attend sessions denoted by asterisk on August 8 th. There will be informational sessions designed to specifically answer parent questions and concerns. We want to make sure that parents are equipped with the knowledge to help students to succeed. There will be advice on parenting a college student, the advantages and challenges of residential living, financial aid, and how to keep the communication lines open with your student and the university via the Internet, s and more. Parents will have the opportunity to pose questions to the president, administrators, faculty members, orientation leaders and others. LODGING Students can move into their Residence Halls on August 13th. If parents, guardians and other guests need to make reservations with one of the many fine hotels, inns or motels in Savannah, a partial listing is on the opposite side of this form. For more information about campus housing, contact Residential Services and Programs at (912) New Student Convocation/Service of Dedication One of the university s longstanding traditions is the New Student Service of Dedication. During this program, all new SSU students are officially inducted into the Tiger Family. All are asked to wear business attire. It is not required but preferred and a jacket is not necessary. MARKET PLACE & COMMUNITY SERVICE At Friday s Market Place, we will have representatives from university departments, area banks, churches, outside health services, and many more organizations ready to acquaint you with their prepared services. Community service opportunities will be offered to new students during Week of Welcome.
