Bid specifications (Enclosure) Culinary Arts Renovation (THS & WHS) Culinary Arts Appliances (THS & WHS) 3. RFP Nursing Services D. Increased Math and Science graduation requirements. Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, updated the board on the Arizona Department of Education s new high school graduation requirements and its impact on our district. Beginning with the class of 2012, the state will require students to earn three credits of math and two credits of lab science. Beginning with the class of 2013, the state will require students to earn four credits of math and three credits of lab science. Principals, coordinators and teachers are working on calculating the number of additional sections that will be needed and which courses will be offered in order to comply with the new requirements. E. Special Education compliance policies. Debbie Greenfield, Director of Special Education, informed the board that there will be several Special Education board policy changes that they will be reviewing for approval in the very near future. These changes are now required by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and as a result of these changes, we are following different procedures which require we update our policies to reflect those changes for the district to remain in compliance. F. Arizona Department of Administration revised travel policy. Lou Wiegand, Business Director, updated the board on the recently revised travel policy. Reimbursement rates have not changed but lodging and meals will only be reimbursed if the employee, traveling on district business, travels more than 50 miles from their home or work site. Also, if an employee is traveling on district business and does not stay overnight, the district s policy is not to reimburse for meals because IRS regulations would require the reimbursement be reported as taxable and taxes be withheld. G. Principal comments H. Superintendent comments I. Board comments Information and Reports were accepted as presented. MOTION: Clayborn SECOND: Stout CARRIED: 5-0
