1 English Language Immersion Winter Program 2017 DATES TO BE DETERMINED Program Overview: The English Language Immersion program at Marquette Catholic High School engages students in English language learning and American cultural exploration. The curriculum is rooted and structured around academic objectives. Program Objectives: Students will increase their knowledge of the English Language through reading, writing, listening and speaking opportunities in and out of the classroom. Students will increase their knowledge of American culture, local geology and history through handson experiences, field-work and cultural immersion. Students will increase their knowledge of the American secondary and post-secondary educational system through high school, college and university campus visits. This price does not include transportation expenses to and from China. Additional Information: On campus adult facilitator and chaperone at all times Off campus facilitator and chaperone assigned to all trips, field experiences, and activities Campus located near beaches, dunes, Lake Michigan, shopping, transportation to Chicago and South Bend, a hospital, church, and fire department Two adult chaperones provided by partner school (1-10 ratio for visiting schools) Safe off-campus housing in beach community. Located near outlet shopping mall: Polo, Coach, Guess, Nike and much more All meals and snacks provided English Language Learning and American classroom experiences Wireless Internet Access Access to fitness facility and gymnasium Physical activities include: basketball, biking, hiking, traveling, skiing (weather permitting), etc. 1

2 Students will attend a day tour of Chicago and view its architecture, museums and college campuses Dress: semi-formal attire for traveling, warm coat, athletic wear snow boots, casual wear, gym shoes and comfortable clothing 2 degrees Celsius (29 degrees Fahrenheit) in the afternoon, and -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) at night. English as a New Language Class (ENL) Travel and experiences with American students and local community Spending money: personal shopping, gifts, souvenirs 2

The delegation will be greeted by program facilitators. The delegation will board a school bus and travel to Marquette Catholic High School in Michigan City, Indiana (1 hour). The delegation will assemble at the Beach House for a welcome meal, orientation, local tour, organization, rest, and acclimation. 5:30 p.m. Arrive at O Hare International Airport - Chicago 8:00 p.m. The delegation will attend a welcome dinner at the Beach House. Traditional American food will be served.
