1 ASI SENATE MEETING Thursday, April 23, 2015 Cora M. Culla ASI Executive Director s Report 1. SUBJECT: BSC Updates DETAIL Centaurus Repurposing o ASI has received the 60% complete drawings for the repurposing of Centaurus and they are currently under review by the BSC staff to provide further direction. o The comments will be incorporated into a second revision and a submittal of 90% drawings should be returned in a couple of weeks. o The Activities and Programs department will be working with a furniture vendor to develop a layout for the area so that a complete cost estimate can be calculated for the project. Sea World o The evaluation team which is a sub-group of the Facilities and Operations Committee, met with PETA Wednesday to talk about their stance on Sea World and the treatment of the orcas in their care. The sub-group will be discussing their findings and reviewing recommendations for ASI action, which will be forwarded to the F&O for discussion and a recommendation for Senate action in the upcoming weeks. 2. SUBJECT: Student Forums on Semester Conversion DETAIL The first semester conversion forum had low student attendance. While the actual conversion will not occur for three more years, the University is asking for help in reaching out to the students who will be affected to encourage them to attend the next session on May 6 th from noon to 1:00pm in Ursa Major. Please help by making announcements to your Councils so they can encourage students to be involved in the discussion regarding this important change in the campus academic calendar. 3. SUBJECT: Ongoing Searches DETAIL Campus interviews have been concluded for the positions of Associate Director of Facilities, Building Services Engineer and Facilities Assistant. Interviews are ongoing for the Aquatics Coordinator and Custodian positions.
2 ASI SENATE MEETING April 23 rd, 2015 Taylor Young Senator Pro Tempore CCHM Senator Senator Pro Tempore Updates: SUBJECT: Facilities and Operations Committee DETAILS: Next meeting scheduled to meet on Friday, April 24 th in Perseus, BSC at 1:00pm-3:00pm. SUBJECT: Petition Against the Sale of SeaWorld Tickets, Update DETAILS: A select group of students within the F&O committee (including myself), have watched the film Blackfish and have attended a guided tour of the facilities and operations of SeaWorld Diego. This gave us the opportunity to meet and ask SeaWorld trainers, veterinarians, and leadership team questions raised by the presentations from BARN and SeaWorld as well as our findings. We are continuing our investigative effort by making arrangements to meet with PETA so we can hear their stance on the issue as well. This topic is expected to return to F&O within the next three scheduled meetings. CCHM Senator Updates: SUBJECT: Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch Open for Spring Quarter DETAILS: The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch (RKR) is opening its doors to the public on Wednesday, April 15 th with an all new and colorful menu to compliment the season. Make a reservation for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or dinner from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the student managed and operated restaurant by calling (909) or visiting SUBJECT: Hospitality Management Council General Meeting DETAILS: Hospitality Management Council (HMC) holds General Meetings every other Monday at 1:30pm. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 27 th at Collins College (CCHM). SUBJECT: Hospitality Management Council Elections DETAILS: HMC Executive Board Elections will be held on Thursday, May 7 th during U-Hour at Collins College. SUBJECT: Hospitality Law Guest Lecturer DETIALS: Professor Jason Dineros invites Collins students to sit in on his HRT 240 Hospitality Law class on Thursday, May 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Demo Auditorium (79-147). Paul Bigley, Senior Partner at Gilbert Kelly, one of the oldest firms in California, will be the guest lecturer. Bigley has over 30 years of trail attorney experience and has litigated hundreds of hospitality cases. The focus of the class will be protecting and defending hospitality operations against premises liability and negligence claims. For more information, please contact me. SUBJECT: Hospitality Management Council Spring Carnival DETAILS: HMC s and CCHM s Quarterly Dean s Event Spring Carnival will be on Thursday, May 21 st during U-Hour at Collins College. All HRT students are invited to network with peers, faculty, and
3 staff; enjoy complimentary Farmer Boys burgers, and carnival games hosted by the council s clubs and organizations. SUBJECT: Richard Frank Lectureship, Wing Lam DETAILS: The Collins College is proud to present this year's Richard Frank Distinguished Lectureship on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Kellogg West Auditorium. All students, faculty and staff are invited to hear an inspiring lecture from Wing Lam, the co-founder of Wahoo's Fish Tacos, a surf-inspired taco chain, with more than 65 restaurants in seven states. Personal Updates: SUBJECT: ASI CCHM Senator Mentorship DETAILS: I will be meeting with the ASI CCHM Senator Candidate to provide personal mentorship for a smooth transition into the year. SUBJECT: Speaking at CCHM s Commencement Ceremony DETAILS: I have been selected from the Collins College student leader body to present the Class Gift at Collins College of Hospitality Management s Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 8:00pm.

SUBJECT: Release of 30% Allocation to ASI Details: 30% Allocation will be released to the councils and the rest of ASI based on Spring enrollment of 2015.
5 Council Updates Benjamin Murdock Senator-at-Large, Student Interest Council For April 23, Subject: 2nd Meeting of Spring Quarter Details: SIC will be having its first meeting of the Winter Quarter on April 25, 2015 at 3:00pm in Ursa Minor. 2. Subject: The Crowning of the Bronco Court Details: We have our new court and will begin rehearsals for the Crowning of the Bronco Court event which will be happening in Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 6pm in Ursa Major Personal Updates 1. Subject: Meeting with Shelby Long Details: I will be setting up a meeting with Shelby Long of Campus Rec to talk about the possibility of the new Sports Council. 2. Subject: Creating a survey for the new councils Details: I received the surveys from my council and will compile the answers to make it easier for people to see.
6 Name: Katarina Kushin Position: ENV Senator January 27th, 2015 Council Updates: 1. Continuation of ENV Month A. ENV Spring Exhibition: Main event Thursday during U-Hour in Building 7. Free refreshments will be served. T-Shirt sales will continue. Position Updates: None.
7 Kimberly Rotunno Agriculture Senator Senate Meeting ~~~4/23/15 ~~~ 1. Subject: Ag Land Preservation a. Ag Council has written a letter to Cal Poly Pomona s administration formally sharing our opposition to the land development on the horse pastures. b. Once the letter is finalized, I plan to send it out to every council to ask if they would like to endorse it or not before it is sent to the appropriate Administration. 2. Subject: Pizza with the Dean, April 21 a. Dean Dr. Holz-Clause and Associate Dean Dr. Kessler will be answering students questions about the College of Agriculture. b. For the first time, we will be holding the event in building 45 so that AMM students can attend, and live video of the dean will be shown in building 2 for students that cannot make it down to the event. c. This quarter, we have added a second Pizza with the Dean, which will be held on May Subject: Spring Fling, May 5 a. The event will be held on May 5 at U hour. This is an event where council gives back to the clubs and Ag students. We give out free food and have games and prizes. Personal Goals Status: 1. Subject: ASI Tip of the Week a. Posted in Ag building and on Ag Council Facebook page every week. I m currently looking for more ideas on what information would be valuable to share with clubs and students. 2. Subject: Animal Units Access a. After meeting with a professor that teaches at the animal units and the head of the Animal Science Department, I was directed to meet with the Director of Parking and Transportation Services, Michael Biagi. After meeting with him, I have received some insightful background information about the safety issues with classes at the Animal Units. So far, I have received full support of this project by each person I have met with.
8 b. I have met with Daniel Johnson, Director of Facilities Design & Construction, who has said he will take the information I gave him and present it to his team. If they decide not to take action, I will begin working on more ways to bring attention to the issue. c. I have followed up with Daniel Johnson, but he has not been able to present my idea yet.

10 Colin Danahy Engineering Senator For April 23 rd, SUBJECT: Elections DETAIL: Engineering Council has elected our President, Vice President, Events Coordinators, and Secretary and will have elections for our Treasurer and Public Relations at our next meeting on April 21 st at U-hour. 2. SUBJECT: ECLR DETAIL: Engineering Council will be hosting ECLR again on May 16 th this year and we are looking for ASI Senators/E-board to lead a diversity training workshop. 3. SUBJECT: Disability Awareness event Planning committee DETAIL: Disability Awareness event month is April and there are about 7 activities planned including a showing of the Theory of Everything, a pet therapy, Art with Impact, a keynote speaker, and a presentation on mental health. Stay tuned for more info. 4. SUBJECT: Career Panel DETAIL: I along with the rest of Engineering Council will be hosting an engineering career panel on Thursday April 30 th at U-hour in the BSC. We will be serving pizza to engineering students who come and will have five panelists from various engineering companies. We will also be presenting to Finance committee for funding at their next meeting. If any Senators would like to help out with the event it would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Next General Meeting of Spring Quarter Details: Science Council will be having its third Spring 2015 general body meeting on April 23, 2015 at 12:00 pm in At this meeting, each executive board member will discuss their roles and duties. An has been sent to the College of Science, inviting those interested in holding office during the year to attend. Meetings will be held every other week. 2. Subject: Science Council Executive Board Elections Details: Science Council Executive Board nominations will be held during the third general body meeting of Spring quarter, May 7, Science Council Executive Board elections will be held during the fourth general body meeting of Spring quarter, May 21, These dates were chosen in compliance with our bylaws. 3. Subject: Science Demonstrations Details: Science Council held another Science Club Demonstration day. This event allowed our clubs to show case their fields of Science, promote their clubs, and spread scientific literature and scientific interest across the campus. This occurred on April 16, 2015 in University Quad from 11:00am-2:00pm. 4. Subject: Semester Conversion Focus Groups Details: Science Council is reaching out to its members to participate in the Semester Conversion advising focus group. This will occur on April 30, 2015 from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Position Updates: Subject: Semester Conversion Steering Committee Details: We ve made a final draft of the Semester Conversion survey. Monday we had opening ceremony where everyone revealed their chapter themes e. Tuesday was the Food Fair where organizations were coupled and sold different themed food items f. Next week the festivities continue with i. Monday- Quiz Bowl/ Greek Quarterly ii. Wednesday- Greek Olympics/ Volleyball from 3:30-7:00PM iii. Thursday- Can Structure from 9:00AM- 1:00PM iv. Saturday- Lip Sync from 7PM-9:00PM v. Award Ceremony- Tuesday May 5 th from 11:30AM- 1:00PM in Ursa Major 2. African American Student Center a. Recently, the executive board spoke with the AASC in regards to the national attention about diversity in Greek Organizations. Discussion was very productive.
