4 Congregate Meals: The Monday through Friday Congregate Meals are a very important service provided by your Senior Center and the Office of Aging and Community Services. Meals must be ordered 2 business days in advance. So if you call in the morning of your scheduled meal to cancel due to a non-medical issue or you do not show you, are responsible for the full purchase of your ordered meal which is $4.35. Failure to contact us that you are not coming results in a meal that can not be served and puts the staff in a dilemma trying to get someone to eat the ordered meal. Lastly review your order with staff the week before to confirm that your order is recorded for the following week. Important to Know The Big Spring Senior Center is supported, in part, by a grant from the Cumberland County Office of Aging and Community Services, The Pennsylvania Department of Aging and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, BIG SPRING NEWS

Wednesday, July 25th at 9:30 a.m. MindMatters - Be a Spring Chicken Stay Young Forever: Is it possible to slow down the aging process? As we get older hair gets thinner, our pace gets slower, and sadly many of us develop illnesses. Often so-called cures for aging are not cures at all, but rather money makers for companies that target hopeful seniors. However, current scientific research may hold promise for a better understanding of aging in our future. Journalist Bill Gifford talks about humankind s obsessing with slowing the aging process and the effects it has on our lives. Wednesday, August 22nd at 9:30 a.m. MindMatters : Human Trafficking in the United States: While human trafficking has received more media attention in recent years, many still believe it only happens in other nations. This presentation will discuss the current state of knowledge about human trafficking within the United States as it occurs to citizens of other nations as well as U.S. citizens. August is Psoriasis Awareness Month Disclaimer - If you do not wish to receive any further communications from the Big Spring Senior Center concerning requests for donations or other fundraising activities, please notify Cathy Graver by mail at the Big Spring Senior Center, 91 Doubling Gap Road, Newville, PA Psoriasis is a chronic, noncontagious, genetic autoimmune disease that appears on the skin in red, scaly patches that itch, crack and bleed. It is the most common autoimmune disease in the country, affecting approximately 7.5 million Americans. Come out in August (look for information in your local newspaper, our webpage and at the Big Spring Senior Center) to learn more about this disease.
