Meet in Building F7 210 every Thursday, Vacancies for officers. Also interested in Mental Health Issues, this is a great place to come and learn. Project: Raise attention to children that are incarcerated, basic needs, sandals, shower necessities. jstemplest@gmail.com 3. PHP (People Helping People) Agency: Company that helps with financial issues. Accounting Club Alex and Henri: Things in motion for Spring Semester. 25 people at first opening meeting. Meetings consist of Lunch and guest Speakers, new requirements for CPA licensing. Trip to San Francisco in Spring Break. Club Holding fundraisers, Food sale in front of swim stadium this Monday. Club members offer tutoring, math s, stats, accounting, free of charge, $10 lunch dinner to network and get new jobs. ELAC Philharmonic society, changing clubs structure, name, and statement, currently accepting new members, looking to expand. Looking to expand new genres of music. Meet in S2 on Wednesday. 7. AFFF: Meet on Mondays and Wednesday at 12:15 PM Volunteer events at Boys and Girls Club, House of Ruth, Work with other Departments throughout the city as well. Fire Teck implement Community safety program for natural disasters. More information will come at the end of the semester. 8. Milton: ASU doing graduation Slogan contest. Winner gets $200 Community Funded anyone can participate. Chances are good to win located in ASU Office. Deadline for contest is next Friday at 12pm. 9. South Gate Psychology Club Meeting every Monday. 10. President of Philosophy club, meeting on Tuesdays at pm asking is there a god? What s the purpose of life? (Topics), New Club Ghost Hunters club looking for ghosts! Family Friendly Club. Captains Coalition, for Presidents, VP, and officers, join this meeting. 11. 4 12. East L.A Speech Team. Location G3 5 th floor room 502. Meet 2-5pm Seniors meet from 3-5pm. This Sunday Regional Championship, and 6 top speakers go to N.Y, new members. Encourage people to come and learn how to express yourself in a beautiful way. 13. ESPA, Michael: Meet F :15-1:30Pm ESPA going to Faculty Association of Community Colleges, Feb27-29 in Sacramento, budget, financial workshops and organizing students for causes. Concerns regarding Legislature. New Event: MOVE L.A Bus Pass for Students coming to ELAC. 14. Geology Club: Hiking, camping meet on Thursday, A :30-1:30pm Science majors, MESA internship for Seismology. Spring, go to Geology Conference April Evelyn, Pathway Law School Transfer Program: Accepting new members, get priority when attempting to join Law School. Meet Tues 12:15 in Room F7-215 Trip soon to Stanford, Berkley, UCI, and Loyola. Program, lets students know how to get into the law program. 16. Fabian, Husky garage Club: almost done filling paperwork for Shell Marathon. 17. MECHA de ELAC: Getting shirts for 4 members, welcome new members. Events in the works, hosting workshop at Montebello High School for their high school, International women s day hosting an event for them as well. Open Mic spoken word event on campus soon. Encourage other clubs to come together and collaborate with MECHA. elacmexa@gmail.com Mexa founded by Xikano s in 60 s and has evolved throughout the years. 18. SER: Undocumented Meet every Thursday E3-307 Some of the events as LACCD, sent out in a timely manner. 19. Rommel Lopez ASU President: One Topic: Students attending class? ELAC at stand still did not grow this year. Why is it students aren t attending? Professors not adding. Rommel is asking constituents why students not attending. Come to office G8-119 to talk to Rommel with any concerns. VI. Presentations (10 MINUTES PER PRESENTER) A. Relay for Life of Commerce-- Milton Castro Presentation started with Video On Relay for Life. American Cancer Society April 9 th it s a 24-hour Event. Milton wants to have clubs fundraise and students as well. Great event to participate in Fundraise April 9 th at 9am. Cancer does not care who you are or what club you re in, lets fights against cancer, Contact Milton for more info. Milton will do rounds at club meetings to promote. B. Respiratory Therapy Conference Report--Kyle Mesquite Reporting on Conference they were funded for by ASU last November Keeping American Roads Safe. 2. What is a RT? Breathing treatments, and life support, and sleep studies. Page 4 of 6
5 3. Public Law , Sleep Apnea: when you stop breathing. Drivers greater risk of losing their jobs with BMI and diabetes. 4. Kaiser Fontana: Taking the lead in developing the treatments and testing for enforcing the sleep apnea law. 5. Truckers that meet the criteria for being screened are sent to this site for assessment. 6. ELAC students will have an opportunity to train at KAISER. 7. Patrick Reynolds is the grandson of tobacco conglomerate R.J Reynolds who founded R.J Reynolds for A Smoke Free America founded in Mission to motivate young Americans to stop smoking. 8. E-Cigarettes dangers. Language is manipulated and therefore not regulated by FDA. 9. Evened: National Kick Buds, tar extraction experiment. 10. Tobaccofree.org 11. Power Point presentation attached to minutes. C. Spring Semester 2016 Updates--Yareli Contreras 1. Club Accounts Withdrawals Yareli, Read the sent out by Sonia Lopez regarding account withdraws amounts over $1,000. This is due to the audit, transparency, and documentation. Please use DR Form. Motion item tabled to next meeting regarding documentation and regulations. Motion to create a sub ICC meeting to go over audit. 2. E3 Quad Area: Club Guidelines. Quad area opens to fundraise but not for cooking, Don t sell open food like grills, and things that cause stains. Only chips and sodas. Options to cook food are still available in the old locations. 3. Facility Request Forms Policies Refresher Some clubs are not submitting their facilities request form, turn in at least 8 days in advance notice to Tish. Friday before event Tish send out an to plant facilities to notify of your event. D5 Location very popular to sell food so be mindful that other clubs are also submitting request to sell there. 4. Amplified Sound: College Hour Only. Some clubs, playing music during class sessions, we have designated college hour 12pm- 1pm make sure to note that on your facilities request form. VII. VIII. IX. Open Discussion Items (5 MINUTES PER ITEM) A. Smoking Resolution-- Milton Castro Milton visited club s meetings and created a resolution. The sign needs to be bigger, visible, and have the municipal code. Milton wants to enforce district policy. Work environment committee, makes suggestions to president, and it s up to the president to do something about it. Motion to adopt the resolution? Enforce, no smoking near buildings.
