Adventure into the Land Before Time Picketwire canyon, a portion of the Comanche National Grasslands, located outside of La Junta Colorado is home to the over 1,300 dinosaur tracks. This tour dives into the scientific discoveries that have been made within the canyon; along with local history and stories about the settlers we homesteaded the land. This tour is a jam packed and will start at 8 a.m. at the Comanche National Grasslands office and then travel out to the canyon making various stops along the route including a 19 th century church, settler s encampments and the dinosaur tracks themselves. Participants will need to pack a lunch and plenty of water as we will be out all day. Once you are signed up you will receive a list of proper clothes to wear that day and other gear to bring such as sunscreen. It is 15 dollars per participate and there is a limit of 35 participants total. Please contact your local extension office to reserve your spot today. 4-H Enrollment Again for 2017/2018 year we will be using the 4-H Online program to enroll members. 4-H Online is a secure database that has been in use for quite a few years now in Colorado. Families will need to login to the 4-H Online site and complete the enrollment process. All counties will be providing very specific instructions, but don t hesitate to ask for help. Also, if you do not have access to a computer or would like to have our help we can schedule a time to help you enroll at your Extension office. Members and volunteer leaders need to complete all parts of the online enrollment process, including adding online signatures for: Animal Care and Housing Form (if applicable) Permission to Participate Photo Denial (only check & sign if you don t want to allow photos) Code of Conduct Health Form. You will not have to print anything off UNLESS you are not housing your animals at your home in which case you will need to download and fill out the animal housing form and return to the Extension Office by the enrollment deadline. Counties may have county specific forms that you still must sign and turn in. To complete your enrollment, you must pay club fees as set by your county following the county process. Enrollment deadline is February 1 in Cheyenne County, March 1 in Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero and Prowers Counties. The Colorado State University 4-H Office has put together some excellent resources on 4-H Online. The link to these resources is Horse Judging A horse judging team has started in Otero County, and is open to all Southeast Area Counties. For more information, contact Coach Trish Leone at or Marlena Griesse in the Otero County Extension Office at

You may attend any MQA in the area; be sure to sign in and complete the quiz so your county will know you attended. The hands-on learning stations will be used again with changes in the stations. These monthly webinars will cover important information for organizational and project leaders. The webinars will be offered using Zoom. The first webinar is on Wednesday, February 21st at 7 p.m. It will cover club financial information. For those not able to attend at that time, the webinars will be recorded for later viewing. For instructions on attending see your local extension office. Daniel Kasza Memorial 4-H Scholarship Are you looking for money for college? All Baca, Bent, Cheyenne, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero and Prowers 4-H members who are graduating seniors are encouraged to apply for the Daniel Kasza Memorial 4-H Scholarship. Criteria and applications are now available from Southeast Area Extension Offices and on the area website, and are due April 1. One $750 scholarship will be awarded to an eligible applicant. Contact Kaye, kmkasza@yahoo.com or , for more information. 4H Online Blasts From time to time the State office will be sending s directly to the 4-H members. It is the easiest and most effective way to communicate important State events and requirements. We know that not everyone particularly enjoys the extra s and there have been requests to be unsubscribed. It is important to know that if you do that, you would not receive any re-enrollment s or information the County office sends directly to you. Please do not unsubscribe.
4 Project Highlight Do you enjoy sewing and creating clothing for yourself, but your creativity stretches beyond the limits of a regular ol pattern? Then give Artistic Clothing a try! Artistic Clothing is made up of the Upcycle Your Style (formerly Decorate Your Duds), Creative Sewing, Create Your Own, and Buymanship Projects. In Upcycle Your Style, you can use a variety of techniques to decorate an article of clothing. There are three categories: Stitched: Your embellishment must be sewn on to your garment. This might include embroidery, applique, or adding a ruffle. Applied: In the applied classes, your decoration must be attached by gluing, fusing, or painting according to the 2018 Colorado State Fair Requirements. This covers tie-dying, puff paint, vinyl, and rhinestones. Combination: Entries in combination classes must include one garment with both stitched and applied techniques. Creative Sewing is your opportunity to let your personality shine. Truly, anything goes! This is your chance to alter or combine patterns, or even create your own pattern. Creative Sewing consists of Costume classes and All Other Exhibits. All Other Exhibits may include sewn items such as stuffed animals or accessories that don t fit into the other clothing classes. The bulk of your score (45%) in Creative Sewing comes from your creativity in designing your exhibit. With the quality of your exhibit counting for 30% and your e-record counting for 25%. The Create Your Own project is for exploring. If you are interested in a particular designer or learning more about different textiles and their uses, then consider Create Your Own. In the Create Your Own project, you must include a written description of you project, but you may also include a constructed article or display board outlining what you learned. In Buymanship, you must put together one complete outfit for display, in addition to a variety of activities, such as a wardrobe inventory or clothing plan of action (P.S. If you re looking for a great way to inventory your wardrobe and explore new ways to style your favorite pieces, check out the website finery.com!). Let your creativity blossom and give one of the four Artistic Clothing projects a try this year.
