Scroll down left side column to Manage Your Own Profile. Login with your certificate number and PIN (your PIN code is attached to your membership card.) Update. A Lesson Learned Have you ever made a commitment and then had the feeling that you just overbooked yourself? Well that happened to me earlier this month. I was called asking if I could fill in for a Courier traveling to London on October 13. I said yes I could as I knew the Vikes were on a BYE week. I forgot about the bridge meeting the following Monday. To appease the gods for this mistake it cost me my debit card because I also forgot to notify my bank that I was traveling over seas. I attempted to use an ATM to withdraw cash to pay my driver, who forgot his square device to receive credit cards, and the machine ate my card. There I was, no cash and no credit card, a huge dilemma. Four hours later, after many phone calls to various banks in London and the US, I was able to have my daughter American Express me some funds. All was OK. My international cell phone went dead and it required that some of these calls were made on my driver s cell. Having been super cautious I removed all credit cards from my wallet except the one that was eaten. I now have a reserve credit card and a HUGE note to notify my bank whenever I travel for any reason. The bank also has my updated cell phone numbers. Updating Information Speaking of updating information, remember to update your contact information with USPS. Our squadron uses contact information from National USPS to keep you informed. You can update on the national website. P/C Bob Schmit provides instructions. (See left side column.) You ll be able to see your membership information and also correct and update it. Nominating Committee This is the time of year when the Nominating Committee does their annual search for candidates to help run the various functions of the St Paul Sail and Power Squadron. If they call you, please consider their offers you will invariably find out more about your squadron and meet new friends by helping out. Bylaws Membership Meeting A quorum of St. Paul Sail members gathered at the Ft. Snelling Officers Club on 11 October. Bylaws changes were proposed and approved (with minor changes) for submission to National.

5 River Skipper 5 Some Boating Season Highlights It was a slow start to the boating season. Wintery weather (snow, lots of it) in late April and early May made it difficult to get boats ready to launch. Our squadron adapted and continued on with activities. Here and on page 6 are some scenes from the short 2013 boating season. Left to right starting in upper left corner: (1) The May National Safe Boating Week was highlighted on a cold, wet day with vessel safety checks and the Ready, Set, Wear, It Campaign. (2) Also in May, Students in Navigation took sun sights at Pepin. That s Al Harmon using a sextant with instructor Art Mollica. (3) The traditional Officer s Serve Breakfast was held at the July Beach Party. It was a cold blustery weekend, but attendees still had a lot of fun. (4) At the State Fair, Jeff Davis demonstrated an inflatable pfd. The group also provided fire extinguisher practice using the USPS fire extinguisher screen. (5) On a clear night in June on the Pepin breakwater, Dale Perry took night time moon and star sights with Bob Schmit as his recorder. Go to page 6 for more pictures.

6 6 November 2013 More Boating Season Highlights In spite of less than ideal boating weather for several weeks during summer, our members were able to enjoy many hours on the water. Starting upper left: (1) Is that Art at the helm of the Steady Eddie on Memorial Day weekend?(2) At the July Beach Party, a group gathered for refreshments on the Manor s Steady Eddie. We can learn from our mistakes. (but will we?) Okay, don t come to the meeting then. (YES, yes I will!) But you could win the prize (Oh, NO, not that!) And when it s finally finished we ll be laughing with (at) the new winner of the BENT PROP! I forgot there will be a real meeting before all the laughs. And, we ll be clapping for all the people nominated to lead our squadron and for all the money we get to run the squadron when we approve the candidates and the budget for & Annual Meeting Let Don know if you have in mind a Bent Prop nomination. Call for St. Paul Singers with Pitch and Courage a note from Immediate Past Commander Dale Perry As you may know, St. Paul Sail and Power Squadron is taking D10 members back to music and fashions of the 50s and 60s during the Friday night dance party at the D10 Spring Conference, which we are hosting on March 2014 at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Lake Elmo. This is an audition call to all members of the St Paul Squadron who can sing on tune and carry a part other than the melody. I m aiming to assemble a group of about 6 to 10 singers to perform during the Friday night dance party. If we can pull it together, our group will present unique versions of a couple of hit songs of the 50s and 60s backed up by soundtracks from Hal Fotsch s Karaoke player during Show Time at our Friday event, D10 Bandstand. A relatively easy song would be the legendary Love is a Many Splendored Thing, made timeless by the Four Aces. If we can handle the harmonies of that song, we may next take on the challenge of California Girls, the Beach Boys iconic, hard to sing ode to the unattainable fantasies of teen -age boys.
