LLAB COMPONENTS AND DEFINITIONS Mandatory Practical Military Training (PMT): LLAB and PT are considered mandatory PMT and attendance is required. You must attend 80% of PMT or you will fail LLAB. The OFC may require up to six hours of mandatory PMT per week for POC cadets, and up to five hours of mandatory PMT per week for GMC. Any time requirements above the maximums will be considered voluntary PMT (VPMT). Your LLAB grade will only reflect attendance at mandatory PMT. Weekly PMT events will be planned out and approved by the OFC on the weekly Operations Oder (OPORD) and can be found on SharePoint. Reference the OPORD for Uniform of the Day (UOD), dates/times, places PMT will be held. Voluntary PMT (VPMT): Any AFROTC sponsored training activity uniquely military that the Det/CC designates as voluntary PMT. Examples of voluntary PMT include, but are not limited to: Mock deployments, base visits, drill team/honor guard membership. There are many voluntary events scheduled throughout the semester and will be described as voluntary on weekly OPORDs. Cadets typically describe these events as enjoyable. They present opportunities to get to know fellow cadets and remain involved in the program. Participation is voluntary and no level of involvement in voluntary PMT will affect your LLAB grade. However, participation and extra levels of involvement may be used internally by the cadet wing staff and cadre to stratify cadets for awards, recognition and training opportunities. Non PMT: Arnold Air Society and cadet booster clubs, although recognized by AFROTC, are not AFROTC-sponsored groups and do not qualify as PMT. Cadets are not authorized medical care for any injuries sustained while performing activities as members of these organizations. The Detachment/CC may designate any non-pmt activity as off limits for uniform wear. Activities such as cadet staff or flight meetings conducted outside PMT are considered non-pmt, regardless of whether or not participants wear the AFROTC uniforms. Cadets can participate as private citizens in university, community, or civilian sponsored events provided they do not wear a uniform or create the appearance of representing AFROTC. Any cadet who participates, does so voluntarily with the understanding that the activity is not sponsored by AFROTC, is not PMT, and injuries could result in loss of AFROTC status and benefits. No fundraising activities will be performed in the uniform. PT: PT is considered part of LLAB, and is mandatory PMT, twice a week for all cadets. Morning PT is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays for all cadets and is typically held at either the Fuller Track and Field Complex or the Student Rec Center. If good weather permits, PT will be held at the Fuller Track and Field Complex. All cadets must attend a minimum of 80% of mandatory PT sessions per semester to remain in the program. Contract cadets who do not attend 80% of PT sessions will receive a conditional event, will fail LLAB, and may be disenrolled from the AFROTC program due to indifference to training. Non-contract cadets who do not meet the 80% attendance requirement will fail LLAB, and may be dismissed from the AFROTC program due to indifference to training. FTP PT attendance will be reported to the OFC on a weekly basis and will affect your class standing for field training submission. Fitness Assessment (FA): A FA is an official physical fitness assessment to measure your current level of fitness. All non-contract cadets must attempt an FA during the semester. All

contract cadets must pass a FA during the semester. At no time may a FA be counted as unofficial after the fact to cover for poor performance. Any contract cadet who fails a FA during a semester will be counseled will receive a conditional event by the Detachment Commander, and will be retested by the end of the semester. To pass the FA you must score 75 points out of a possible 100 and meet all minimum scores for pushups, crunches, run time, and waist measurement. Qualifying Fitness Review (QFR): Those cadets scheduled to commission are required to take a QFR. The QFR is taken in addition to the semester FA requirement. A FA may not also be counted for a QFR. The commissioning QFR is given to cadets within 30 days of commissioning and must be passed to receive a commission. Height, weight, and abdominal circumference may be taken all on the same day. Absences from PMT: An absence is considered excused when you notify the OFC (Maj Glover) before the absence and you are: 1. Participating in an official University or AFROTC activity 2. Medically confined or sick as verified by a physician a. Excusal notes must be submitted to TSgt Wright via scan and or in person by the end of the wee b. Send an to OFC (Maj Glover) TSgt Wright and the CW COG/CC (C/McIntosh) 3. Responding to a family emergency (send notification to those listed above) 4. Absent for the observance of a religious holy day (requires a MFR to the OFC prior to absence). Make-up LLAB: Cadets who have an excused absence from LLAB may attend Alt LLAB with prior approval from the OFC, Maj Glover. Absences for class conflicts, such as tests that are scheduled outside of the corresponding class schedule, will rarely be approved. It is the responsibility of the cadet to seek an alternate testing time from the professor that will not interfere with PMT. Make-up LLAB will be held at a TBD date. Classification. Cadets are classified and assigned to a LLAB course with respect to FT attendance and commissioning. All cadets will typically be classified as GMC or POC. On occasion, cadets will be assigned to groups based on their categories, not based on AS year. This may be reflected on OPORDs and Objective Trackers to ensure that all AFROTC objectives are met for a cadet s respective class. The mandatory LLAB objectives are found in T-508 and are grouped using the following categories: Initial Military Training (IMT). These are GMC cadets that are not scheduled to attend Field Training (FT) the following summer. This normally consists of AS 100 cadets, but not always. The focus of the IMT program is to introduce these cadets to the Air Force way of life, to provide solid and effective mentorship, and engage in espirit de corps activities. Field Training Preparation (FTP). FTP cadets are those attending FT this coming summer. This normally consists of AS 200/250 cadets, but may also include AS 500 (completed GMCs). If an FTP cadet becomes no longer eligible to attend FT, they will revert to IMT status until they are prepared to attend FT again.

Intermediate Cadet Leader (ICL). Cadets who have satisfactorily completed FT but are not scheduled to commission in the upcoming year; normally AS 300 cadets. Senior Cadet Leader (SCL). These are typically AS 400 cadets, and will consist of all cadets who have had an entire academic year of AFROTC classes and LLAB after FT. Extended Cadet Leader (ECL). Typically AS 700s, ECL cadets have one to two academic terms remaining before qualifying for graduation but have completed all AFROTC required courses.. Holm Center Training Manual (HCTM) & The Mutual Respect Model. Found on SharePoint, the HCTM represents how all cadet training will take place. It is based on the concept of mutual respect, for both the trainer and the trainee. All cadets must understand this model and be able to apply it to be successful. The HCTM also sets boundaries of what is appropriate and inappropriate training. There are four training approaches which will not be tolerated and dealt with severely if observed or reported: 1. Physical maltreatment. This includes things such as yelling at cadets for no training purpose, or striking a cadet for any reason. 2. Physical Contact. No touching between staff and cadets, or among cadets. The only exception is to correct military bearing, improper wear of the uniform, or posture. However, before any contact occurs, the trainer must first ask for permission to touch and be granted the right to touch before doing so. 3. Verbal maltreatment. This consists of abusive language directed at a cadet that degrades or slanders that cadet, or demonstrates any kind of discrimination based on character, religion, sex, race, color, national origin or ethnic background. 4. Maltraining. This consists of a training practice not designed to reach a specific training objective. The bottom line is to ensure all training is done professionally and has a point to it. Unnecessarily embarrassing cadets in front of their peers, assigning remedial training that is not required, making cadets do degrading tasks, or using any form of Physical Discipline as punishment does not show mutual respect and are considered all acts of maltraining.

GRADING & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS LLAB Requirements: LLAB is offered as a pass/fail course only. The LLAB score in no way affects your grade in AS class. Each cadet must satisfy three requirements in order to receive a passing grade for LLAB: 1. Attend 80 percent of Aerospace Studies (AS) classes and Leadership Laboratory (LLAB) sessions. 2. All cadets must attempt the FA (Physical Fitness Assessment) IAW AFROTC Sup AFI If a cadet receives a failing score on the FA, this does not constitute a failure in LLAB. If a cadet meets all attendance requirements, but fails to attempt the FA, they will fail LLAB. Exceptions to FA requirement: Contract cadets on Medical Recheck Status (MRS). Non-contract cadets that are waived by the Det/CC based on documented medical disqualification. 3. Not show indifference to training. Indifference to training can include poor performance, poor attitude, lack of punctuality, lack of military bearing or appearance, as determined by the OFC and Det/CC. Unexcused Absences Policies: LLAB: After one unexcused absence, you will report to the Cadet Operations Group Commander (C/McIntosh) for counseling. After two absences, you will report to the Det/CC Lt Col Marlow for counseling. Your third absence will result in failure of LLAB, which will result in disenrollment or dismissal from AFROTC. PT: After three unexcused absences, you will report to the OFC for counseling. After four absences, you will report to the Det/CC, Lt Col Marlow for counseling. Your fifth unexcused absence will result in failure of LLAB, which will result in disenrollment or dismissal. Timeliness: Cadets will be in their seats or at the location and ready to proceed with the LLAB before the scheduled start time. Excessive tardiness without preapproval from the OFC may result in an absence for that LLAB. Two instances of unapproved tardiness will result in counseling by OFC. Make an appointment with the OFC before the close of business (COB, usually 1700) on the day following LLAB. This includes tardiness to PT sessions as well.

LLAB Conduct/Cadet Responsibilities: LLAB POLICIES 1. The room or area will be set up and clean (including audio/visual equipment) prior to the arrival of cadre and beginning of LLAB. 2. When the ranking officer enters the room where cadets are located, the CW/GLIA, or designated representative, will call the room to attention. Cadets will come to attention until told to be seated by the officer. This will also take place when the senior ranking officer leaves the room. 3. Once LLAB has begun, don't call attention for other officers entering the room except as directed by the Det/CC. 4. Provide Procedures If you wish to contribute to discussion, be sure to stand. When the speaker calls on you, say Sir/Ma am/rank, Cadet Name, then proceed with your question. 5. Eating, chewing gum and the use of tobacco products are not permitted during LLAB. Drinking water from a sealed container is permitted when not at attention or in formation. 6. Cell phones, pagers, and other personal communication devices must be turned off and put away during all LLAB activities, unless coordinated with cadre before the PMT activity. 7. As future Air Force officers, everything you do should be done in a professional manner. We will have a non-attributive, open learning environment where ideas can flow freely and without fear of reprisal. If you disagree with someone, remember to do so courteously. As future Air Force officers, professionalism, civility, and respect for others are expected at all times. No profanity, insults, nor outbursts will be tolerated. Preparation for Class: Review the OPORD, posted in SharePoint, each week, cadets are expected to be fully prepared for each LLAB. Use of SharePoint: The cadre and cadet wing will use SharePoint to disseminate information. Weekly OPORDs will be posted on SharePoint. Wear of the Uniform/Civilian Attire: Cadets will wear the prescribed uniform or appropriate civilian attire on the day of, and during LLAB, any time they are on campus. Uniform wear should reflect personal pride and professionalism. Unapproved attire includes cutoffs, tank tops, flip-flops/sandals, ball caps, etc. Cadets are responsible for knowing and will meet all provisions of AFI AFROTC Sup, Ch1, Dress and Appearance of Air Force Personnel. If approved by the OFC to not wear the uniform for various reasons during PMT, appropriate civilian attire during LLAB includes: 1. UOD-Blues- Conservative slacks, tucked in collared shirt and conservative dress shoes

2. UOD-PTU: Conservative workout gear. T-shirts must not have any inappropriate logos or slogans on them) 3. UOD-Service Dress: Coat and/or collared shirt and tie 4. UOD-ABU/FDU: Appropriate attire for field conditions blue jeans are permitted; no shorts Additional Dress & Appearance Standards: Always dress and strive for a professional appearance while in detachment offices or cadet lounge. This includes all meetings with staff and cadre when not in uniform. Remove caps, no sleeveless or excessively short shirts/shorts/skirts and always maintain proper customs and courtesies. Academic Integrity. Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated and includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, collusion, falsifying academic records, misrepresenting facts, and any other action designed to give unfair advantage to the student. Instances of violations of academic integrity do not represent the core values of the US Air Force and will result in failure of LLAB. Students With Disabilities. Any student who, because of a disability, may require special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact the instructor as soon as possible to make any necessary arrangements. Students should present appropriate verification from Student Disability Services during the instructor s office hours. Please note instructors are not allowed to provide classroom accommodations to a student until appropriate verification from Student Disability Services has been provided. For additional information, you may contact the Student Disability Services office at 335 West Hall or
