2 Eligibility Requirements Read below and ensure eligibility! Per AU Instruction : ineligible students will be sent home at parent unit's expense. Current passing PT test You MUST have a current and passing PT Test WITH NO EXEMPTIONS on file in AF Fitness Management System (AFFMSII) that lasts through your graduation date If you have one or more EXEMPTIONS on your AFFMSII printout, you must retest with NO EXEMPTIONS prior to attending SOS or get an approved Exception to Policy (ETP) to attend SOS, even if the profile that led to the exemption expired EXEMPTIONS due to 12 month post-partum deferment DO require an ETP Expiration of fitness assessment due to deployment of 90+ days Students with an expired PT Test who will attend SOS within 42 days after returning from a deployment of over 90 days MUST request an Exception to Policy (ETP) waiver and receive written approval from SOS Student Services in order to use the expired score ETPs will NOT be considered for students who have been home more than 42 days See SOS website for ETP process 2

3 Eligibility Requirements You must have a current and passing PT test with no exemptions that lasts through SOS graduation. If you have an exemption in any of these components on your current PT test, you must either retest with no exemptions or have an approved ETP before attending SOS. This is true even if the profile which led to the exemption has expired. Additionally, if you are on a medical profile, even if it will expire during the class, you cannot attend SOS without an approved ETP. 3

4 Lodging & Travel Info SOS does NOT handle fund cites, per diem, orders, or lodging Call or your unit POC for help on these issues DO NOT call or SOS on these issues Fund cite & travel orders (DTS) POC for these issues is your unit training manager & MAJCOM/A1 All students are paid partial per diem DFAC has limited availability for breakfast & dinner ($$ cash only $$) You will have a lunch break every day Booking a room Single lodging room is automatically reserved for students Shared floors & neighbors w/ flight (usually) Room keys assigned during in-processing Some rooms only have refrigerators & microwaves, some have kitchenettes Local students are NOT authorized base lodging Base facilities & amenities See 42nd Force Support Squadron website I am bringing my family, pets, etc..see next slide If you have lodging questions Call Maxwell Lodging (comm) (DSN) 4

5 Lodging - Special Accommodations Accompanied students always welcome, but. Lodging, child care, & costs incurred are student s responsibility SOS Student services at soc.dps@us.af.mil and ask to be placed in the accompanied Squadron SOS will NOT move you after Day 1 We MUST receive request NLT 14 days prior to class start Bringing just your spouse? You may get a private suite with bath (if available) Children & pets NOT allowed in SOS dorms Bringing kids and/or pets? Only option is off-base SOS can t recommend off-base lodging or issue non-availability #s You will be paid the current 75% per diem rate, you pay difference out of pocket Need childcare? (With Dependents?) TLF available (need orders) - call lodging If TLF is full.lodging will provide Non-Availability #s IMPORTANT NOTICE SOS is NOT an accompanied TDY. Being in the accompanied SQ is a courtesy SOS extends to students. Being in the accompanied SQ does NOT guarantee childcare or lodging will be available. It is YOUR responsibility to coordinate special accommodations. 5

6 Before Departing Home Station Bring (Hard Copy) Fitness report - AFFMS-II print out 2 x copies of your orders (Guard & Reserve Only) Bring Laptop/Tablet bring to in-processing You must have a laptop or tablet for course work SOS curriculum is 100% digital You will have writing & briefing assignments WiFi is available throughout the SOS building See Maxwell Lodging website for lodging WiFi details Bring 2 potential Insight Project topics (see next slide) Think Tank (Optional) The Think Tank is competitively-selected elective giving students the opportunity to analyze a major USAF issue and brief YOUR solutions to senior leaders. For those interested in applying, a two page essay outlining your thoughts on the current Think Tank topic will be due on Day 2. Details on the current topic will be published to the SOS website about 3 days prior to class start. 6

7 Insight Project The SOS curriculum is designed to help you solve complex problems. In an effort to assist your learning and aid Air Force Squadrons, you will be researching an innovative solution at SOS. The best part is, you can work on any AF related topic you wish! Upon graduation, you will present your proposal to the AF through a few venues. Here are some things you need to know: You will need two topics/problems/ideas to work (Primary/Alternate, you will only work one) Both topics should be within the scope of a Captain over 5 weeks Prior to your arrival: Highly recommended that you discuss this with your home station Sq/CC, Sq/DO, and/or Supervisor Together, come up with two topics/problems you could research, solve, and present back to the AF The AU Integration Cell s project list will be available if you struggle to think of topics While at SOS: Research extensively reach out to experts to ensure your solution fits the AF s needs Final solutions will be presented to your classmates for critiques/refinements After graduation: You will have a polished solution, ready to brief any level of leadership We ve partnered with the AF Idea Program, who is eagerly awaiting everyone s solutions 7

8 Recommended Items Old ABUs & Boots (for Project X) MUST be in reasonably good service Black or desert boots OK ABUs are mandatory for military students - OCPs are not authorized GOOD pair of running shoes Expect a 5k every week plus sporting events & personal PT time Students will run on paved surfaces and gravel roads Recommend 2 pairs running shoes Pair of rubber/plastic cleats for Field Leadership Exercise suggested Weather-appropriate attire & sunscreen 8
