1 RECORDS OF GERMAN FIELD COMMANDS: CORPS (Part II) V. Armeekorps (V Army Corps) The V Army Corps was formed in 934 by expansion of the 5th Division of the old Reichswehr. Elements of the corps were enraged in the campaign in Poland in 939. The corps participated in the western campaign in 940 and was stationed in occupied western Europe until its transfer to East Prussia in the spring of 94- It fought in the central sector.of the eastern front from June 94 to July 942, when it was transferred to the Krasnodar area in the southern sector to replace the LVII Army Corps. The corps, together with Rumanian units, was responsible for the defense of the Black Sea ports and resorts of Novorossisk, Anapa, and Kerch ano for the withdrawal via the Kerch Peninsula to the Crimea in late 943.
