6 CANE - Problem Problem: AFSCN utilization is at 81% daily. Current backup capabilities depend on specialized deployable systems and trained personnel to operate them. Required Capability: Quick reaction backup to AFSCN to off-load low priority / plain vanilla / conflict deleted SGLS contacts.

7 CANE- Solution Solution: Provide a commercially available service for conducting SGLS contacts Show dual USB / SGLS antenna capability Show augmentation of or surge capability to AFSCN Predicted Capability: Provide backup for AFSCN SGLS contacts Provide additional coverage for AFSCN (southern hemisphere, high latitude, LEO, site maintenance, surge activities) Another arrow in the 50 SW quiver

9 CANE- GOALS Demonstration Goals: Demonstrate SGLS TT&C Demonstrate SGLS ranging through commercial ranging box (RTLogic) Use DMSP, DSCS 2/3, and DSP TACO satellites Perform 876 contacts (846 SGLS + 30 USB) Examine quick turn-around between different SGLS satellites Demonstrate real-time network status using ITOS software (used by NASA) Use 56K modem & 128K ISDN for comm Examine use of internet for contacts Use USN AK site primarily Add USN Hawaii (HI) and Australia (AU) sites for downlink contacts
