1 News Clip May 14, 2015 Navy League of the United States Palm Beach Council Citizens in Support of the Sea Services PGA National Resort Luncheon Guest Speaker: Mr. Phil Dunmire Over 50 Palm Beach Council Navy Leaguers turned out for a fun and delicious lunch at the beautiful Members Club at PGA National Resort. Council Member and Recent Navy League National President Phil Dunmire was our keynote speaker, discussing his recent visits and meetings at U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI and the Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition in Washington, DC. Council President Jack Hanscom served as MC and paid tribute in his opening remarks to our WW-2 veterans in attendance, including Lamar Parker, Jim Lea, Stan Shanck, Frank Habicht and Jerry Nelinson. He also noted that Lamar had recently been presented with a Quilt of Valor. this and similar personalized quilts are given to selected veterans who have served in combat zones.

2 As a teen-age OS2 Kingfisher pilot on the battleship USS New York, Lamar participated in ten Pacific island battles before the age of 20. The Quilt of Valor was certainly well-deserved thank you and congratulations, Lamar! Lamar & Betty Parker with Eric Rydstrom & Joan Ross Back to the speaker of the day Phil explained that the Navy League-produced Sea-Air-Space Exposition is the largest maritime expo in the United States, and it is the largest exposition held at the newest and largest convention facility in Washington, the Gaylord Center at National Harbor. It brings together top industry and military decision makers in a multi-forum format that facilitates meaningful discussions and exchange of ideas. Both the Secretary of Navy and the Chief of Naval Operations attend and participate in SAS, as do the CEO s of Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Huntington-Ingalls and many, many more leaders of the defense industry. Phil is a Trustee on the board of the U.S. Naval War College Foundation and explained that one of the key features of that great institution is the larger number of international officers in each War College class; and many, many of these officers have become the leaders of their nation s Navy, and in some cases, the leader of their national government. Friendships made in NWC classes facilitate timely and open discussion pathways in international relations as various crises arise. Phil provided the example of today s Chief of Naval Operations of both the Pakistan and Indian navies were in fact student colleagues in Newport several years ago.

4 The staff at the PGA Members Club were outstanding in taking care of us today, and did you notice in the preceding picture the buffet chef participated in the opening Pledge of Allegiance how nice! And he was most congenial to all as we passed thru the delicious buffet line. 12 And Nancy Fish is shown on May 13 th surrounded by the appreciative Young Marines of the Palm Beaches as she presented a surprise $2100 check to support their trip to march in the Memorial Day parade in Washington, DC. And Council President Jack Hanscom and Ken Lee are shown with our Navy Ball keynote speaker, Rear Admiral Scott Jerabek of U.S. Southern Command/J7. Jack and Ken paid the admiral a courtesy call at his Miami office this past week.
