LaCross Chief of Police February 2, 2015 TO: Council President June Speakman and Members of the Barrington Town Council REF: Highlights of the Barrington Police Department for the Month of January Uniform Patrol and Detective Activity From December 15 through January 2015, Department members arrested a total of 1 juvenile and 17 adult individuals. Patrols issued a total of 155 motor vehicle citations and 349 warnings during routine traffic enforcement efforts and by participating in the Click It or Ticket and Speed Deterrence state funded programs. Department members also investigated a total of 48 accidents. Interesting Investigations & Arrests by Department Members On 12/15/14, Det. Lt. Dino DeCrescenzo arrested a 25 year old Mendon, MA man for stealing a jack hammer from a Barrington resident. Initially the defendant, who was a contractor, reported a ladder stolen from the Barrington property but video surveillance cameras proved he staged the crime and took the jack hammer. Det. Lt. DeCrescenzo searching Craig s List, saw the jack hammer for sale and met the defendant to purchase it. As a result, 3 workers were ultimately charged with the theft and conspiracy to commit larceny. On 01/01/15, Sgt. Josh Birrell and Patrolman John Sgagliardich arrested a 61 year old Barrington man for stealing firewood from a 65 year old Barrington female resident. The victim estimates a half cord of wood was removed over a period of two weeks. On 01/03/15 at 11:43 PM, Patrolman Chris Aylward arrested a 49 year old Barrington male for Injury to an Animal after he stabbed it three times claiming it was aggressive towards him after he told the dog to get out of the trash. On 01/09/15 at 1:47 AM, Patrolman Josh Melo stopped a car for speeding on Wampanoag Trail and arrested the operator, a 21 year old Pawtucket female, for Drunk Driving. The defendant agreed to take the breathalyzer and registered a.183% blood alcohol level.

2 Page 2 On 01/15/15, Patrolmen Tony DeCristoforo and Quint Dow stopped a car for speeding on Wampanoag Trail and arrested the operator, a 21 year old Pawtucket female, for Drunk Driving. The defendant agreed to take the breathalyzer and registered a.183% blood alcohol level. 3 Page 3 Juvenile Hearing Board The Juvenile Hearing Board did meet January 12, Training Det. Lt. Dino DeCrescenzo and Sgt. Timothy Harrington attended the ICS 400 on January 7, Sgt. Josh Birrell, Sgt. Kevin Igoe and Sgt. Wes McCoy attended Bulletproof Leadership training at Cranston Police on January 8, Officers Mark Haddigan and Joshua Melo attended First Line Supervisor training at RIMPA-CCI Lincoln the week of January 12, Det. Ben Ferreira completed the on-line FDA Inspector Refresher training January 13, Officers Gregg Koutros, Marc Pimentel and Quint Dow completed the Taser Recertification training on January 13, 2015 at the Barrington Public Safety Complex. Community Relations During the month of November, patrol officers logged 59 different Community Policing/Relations efforts throughout the town. These contacts included speaking to business employees/owners in the Barrington Shopping Center, checking different marinas, speaking to walkers on the East Bay Bike Path, Veteran s Park, stopping by our schools and playgrounds. Cub Scout and Brownie Troop tours at the Police Station usually occur twice a month. Some officers have allowed children to view their police cars and use the lights and siren as we strive to enhance better police relations with our community. The Department s Customized Military Surplus Humvee had no issues responding to calls in 15 of snow and drifts covering our roads during the blizzard. Respectfully Submitted, John M. 5 Page 5 Animal Control Officer s Report January 9, 2015 Over the period of 12/1/14 to 12/31/14 Animal Control Division handled the following calls for service. Five (5) formal reports was taken or followed up on by Animal Control. Three (3) animals deceased. Thirteen (13) lost, loose, found cats and/or dogs were reported to Animal Control. Five (5) barking dog complaints were reported to Animal Control. Six (6) wild life calls were reported to Animal Control. Five (5) quarantine notices was issued by Animal Control. Zero (0) Animal Cruelty/Well Being investigations Four (4) Summonses issued Zero (0) cats adopted out Zero (0) dogs adopted out Animal Control Division received 37 calls for service for this period of time.
