It is always good to see our citizens participate in activities with our police department. We continue to look into providing our community with innovative training and will alert you as to any training coming up. If you have a request for a specific training, please contact Sharanne and she will work with our staff and the Department s many specialized units in fulfilling your request. We always ask that attendees contact Sharanne so that we may find the appropriate venue for the classes; our 75 Burglary Awareness Training participants met the capacity of our briefing room! Respectfully, Commander Bonnie Montoya Shift Bid Every year, the Albuquerque Police Department conducts a shift bid and this year the new bid takes effect on April 20th. We have kept many of our current officers and supervisors but are also welcoming new officers and supervisors to the Command. We will continue to work on our property crime reduction initiatives as well as starting new projects aimed at crime reduction, crime prevention and will continue to address quality of life issues. 2 Page 2 Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. -Vince Lombardi On the Beat Volume 3 Issue 4 NE OFFICERS WORKING HARD FOR YOU Officer Cochran conducted a traffic tact plan on Montgomery from San Mateo to Eubank regarding cruisers and speeding vehicles. He issued 11 moving citations. Officer Calt conducted a traffic enforcement tact plan in the Stardust Skies neighborhood area. He issued 20 moving citations and made 1 misdemeanor arrest. Officer Sprague patrolled the Stardust Skies Park regarding complaints of drug activity in the park. He did not observe any illegal activity, but made several citizen contacts. Officer Sprague compiled crime information regarding burglaries in the command to identify the highest times and days for burglaries. The goal was to identify the most active time so resources can be utilized to their maximum effectiveness. Officer Sprague continues to work with the information so field officers and Impact detectives can target the appropriate areas. Officer Luthi conducted a traffic enforcement tact plan at Pennsylvania/Claremont. He issued 10 moving citations. Officer Roberto and Recruit Officer Candelaria were returning to the Wal-Mart at 2701 Carlisle Blvd. to pick up information when they were advised of a shoplifting incident in progress. The officers observed on surveillance video the suspect making selections of merchandise and concealing them. Officers Candelaria and Roberto arrested the subject as she attempted to leave the store without paying. Upon further investigation a large amount of narcotics was located on the suspect s person. The suspect was also found to have several warrants for absconding. Officers were later advised that the subject had been wanted by the DEA and US Marshal s office for over 2 years. Recent Burglary Awareness Training The Northeast Area Command recently hosted a Burglary Awareness Training on April 6, 2013 taught by Field Investigator Detective Bruce Arbogast. There were approximately 75 attendees. Several folks have contacted Crime Prevention to schedule Security Surveys of their homes. If there is enough interest, we will look at scheduling another class with Detective Arbogast.

Drug Disposal Program Page 3 DEPOSIT YOUR UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AT AN APD SUBSTATION The Albuquerque Police Department has provided a pharmaceutical drug disposal container inside each substation as a convenience to the citizens of Albuquerque to dispose of their used and unwanted prescription drugs. Service Animals What are my rights and responsibilities as a disabled person with a service animal? You have the right to equal access to all public areas where other customers/citizens are normally allowed. You have the right not to be segregated from other customers/citizens. You have the right not to be separated from your service animal. You do not have to provide a deposit for your service animal, but you are responsible for any damage to the facility that your service animal may cause. You are not required to show proof of disability or proof of certification of your service animal. The care and supervision of your service animal is solely your responsibility. If your service animal is disruptive or posing a threat to others, then the business or public entity can ask you to remove your service animal. However, you have a right to remain without your service animal.
