2 GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Date and Place The 2014 United Nations Public Service Forum, Day and Awards Ceremony will take place in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 23 to 26 June 2014 on the theme of Innovating Governance for Sustainable Development and Well-being of the people. It is organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) through its Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) collaborating with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and with support from the Ministry of Security and Public Administration (MOSPA) of the Republic of Korea. The opening ceremony will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, 23 June. From 23 through 26 June, the UN Public Service Forum will host plenary sessions, 5 capacity development workshops, 1 expert group meeting, 1 special session and the ministerial roundtable. UNPSA winners, the Korean central and provincial governments, as well as private corporations will exhibit their innovations in public administration at the exhibition hall in KINTEX throughout the event. On 26 June, the 2014 UN Public Service Awards and e-government Survey Awards will be presented to the winner. 2. Venue : Korea International Exhibition Centre (KINTEX) KINTEX is the 4 th largest convention and exhibition facility in Asia with 108,556m 2. Confirmation letter will be sent to the registered address within a week after registering. On-site registration All delegates must receive their ground passes to the event facilities at the registration desk at the front lobby of Hall6, KINTEX. Please bring your passport and the confirmation letter to receive your ground pass. Monday, 23 June No on-site registration in the morning Participants should arrive at KINTEX from 8:00 to 9:00 am to attend the opening ceremony. All participants should be seated by 9:30 am. 3 4. Visa If you need an entry visa to Korea, please notify the Preparatory Secretariat as soon as possible, and apply for a visa at the Korean Embassy or Consulate General in your country. Once notified, the Preparatory Secretariat will assist delegates in order to facilitate the visa application process. Detailed Information on visa application procedures and visa exemption is available on the website of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs at For those participants whose country does not have a Korean Embassy or Consulate General resident, visa can be arranged on arrival. Accommodation Special discount rates have been arranged for participants while staying at the official hotels listed at After you have registered online for the event, it is strongly recommended to make a hotel reservation as soon as possible. The discounted rates are guaranteed until 7 June, after which discount rates or room availability cannot be guaranteed. Transportation Airport Hotels An information desk exclusively for the participants will be set up near Gate 8 at the Incheon International Airport to support arriving participants. Various public transportation options are available from the airports to the hotels. The Information desk will assist the participant to choose the best transportation options to reach their hotels. Depending on the means of transportation, the fee varies from KRW 10,000 (bus or subway) to KRW 100,000 (taxi). 3

4 Hotels KINTEX Free shuttle bus services between KINTEX and each of our 8 official hotels are available two times (around 08:00 from hotels to KINTEX and 18:00 from KITEX to hotels) all through the event period. An information desk will be set up at each official hotel and KINTEX to assist participant to use the free shuttle bus service. Detailed shuttle bus schedule will be available at the information desk. 8. Miscellaneous Weather Korea has four distinct seasons - spring, summer, fall and winter. Summer lasts from June to early September. During the month of June, the average temperature in Seoul ranges from 17 to 25. Clothing The weather in Seoul during the period of the forum is early summer. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid. You should bring lightweight summer clothes. Pack an umbrella for the rainy days between June and early July. Electricity Supply The voltage in Korea is 220 volts at 60 Hz. Foreign exchange and banking The monetary unit is the Won (KRW, denoted by ). Korean monetary units are 10, 50, 100, and 500 coins, and 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 50,000 notes. The exchange rate is approximately KRW 1,040 / USD 1 (as of April 2014). All major credit cards such as American Express, Visa and Master Card are accepted for payment of hotel bills. 4

5 Tipping Tipping is not a traditional Korean custom. A 10% service charge is added to your bill at all tourist hotels and so tipping is not expected. It is not necessary to tip a taxi driver unless he assists you with luggage or provides an extra service. Mobile Phone(roaming) CDMA cellular systems are widely used in Korea. SK Telecom and KT are providing a SIM card roaming service to allow you to use your GSM subscription in Korea. At the International Airport, you can rent a special CDMA cellular phone which accepts your SIM card. Please check the links below for more details.
