1 Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School Scholarship Listing (We have attempted to be as accurate as possible in our scholarship descriptions. However, the most complete and accurate information available is on each scholarship s application form. All scholarships listed on the HWRHS Common Scholarship Application are due no later than April 7, 2017.) AES Engineering Scholarship - AES Engineering is offering $500 scholarships to motivated students. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of character determined by evaluating submitted essays. Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking engineering courses to be eligible. For more information go to: Abbott Scholarship - Applicants must be a resident of Rockport, Gloucester or Essex. The student must have a strong academic record, strong moral qualifications and have already made a firm commitment to the Cape Ann area. Also, at some time upon completion of their higher education, plan to return to Cape Ann insofar as is possible to reside and practice their professions, skills, businesses, or talents to benefit the Cape Ann area and respective communities. Award is usually $3,000 or more. (Application information will be listed in Naviance when available.) AFSME - Local 2905 Scholarship $ will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who will be continuing their education and whose parent, grandparent or legal guardian is an active member of the Local Deadline: December 31, 2017 ALSO - Each year the AFSCME Family Scholarship Program provides ten $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors that will be renewed for $2,000 each year for a maximum of four years, provided the student remains enrolled in a full-time course of study. The scholarship may be used for any field of study Patricia A. Alger Memorial Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from HWRHS who intends to continue his/her academics in pursuit of a career in education. Major emphasis is placed on the support of other students by participation in leadership roles, tutoring, or other means that demonstrate a commitment to the school community. Selection will also include personal character, financial need and academic performance. (HWRHS common application) American Legion Post #194 Scholarships ($1,000 and $500) are available to any graduating senior who has been accepted to attend a college, university or higher-level technical institute for the fall semester and is a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a current or prior, in good standing Legionnaire of A.P. Gardner Post 194, Hamilton. Candidates should have good scholastic credentials, be well rounded and not be in possession of a full tuition scholarship to their chosen school. Deadline: April 15th. 1
2 Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation Scholarship This scholarship is available to any high school student in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is awarded on the basis of need, and is not academically based. In addition, the Foundation will give more serious consideration to those students who have made efforts to make a difference in their communities and/or have shown leadership qualities within their school or community. Application will be available in Naviance or can be downloaded at EARLY Deadline: March 15, 2017 Beverly Rotary Club The following scholarships are available for students whose parents or legal guardian reside in Beverly, children of Rotarians are not eligible to apply. Financial need, academic excellence and community service will be an important consideration in the evaluation of candidates. Finalists for an award will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee. - Beverly Rotary Club Foundation Scholarships totaling approximately $20,000 with awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 per individual and available to all fields of study. Boston North Cancer Association - (Deadline: April 1, 2017) - David J. Solimine Sr. Honorary Scholarship Typically $3,500 is awarded to one college-bound North Shore high school senior who is a cancer survivor or is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. - Hope Begins Here Scholarship Typically $3,500 is awarded to one college-bound North Shore high school senior whose parent has passed away from cancer, survived cancer during the applicant s childhood years, or is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Regina Bowler Memorial Scholarship This $750 scholarship is given by the Solstice Singers in memory of Gina Bowler, a long time member of the Solstice Singers. Gina was the assistant conductor of the Solstice Singers, past-president of Friends of Fine Arts and a volunteer pianist for Honor Chorus. This scholarship is given to a senior member of Concert Choir who will continue to be dedicated to the choral tradition that would make Gina, the Solstice Singers and Concert Choir proud. Katharine Bradford Foundation Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has been accepted to attend the Montserrat College of Art or other college or university s visual art program. This scholarship is given based on artistic achievement, artistic potential and financial need. Priority will be given to students attending the Montserrat College of Art. Anita Bruyere Nursing Scholarships Scholarships are available for any member of the HWRHS graduating class who plans to pursue a career in nursing. The criteria include scholarship and concern for others. (HWRHS common application) 2
3 Cape Ann Sportsman Club Scholarship - This $500 award is for a secondary school graduate who is determined to pursue post secondary studies at an accredited school/college in any of the following fields: Game Biology; Game Management; Fish Biology and Fish Culture Management and Propagation, either in land or marine waters; Forestry Management and Culture; Conservation of Forests and Land; Environmental Law Enforcement and other areas of interest to the Sportsman. (Deadline: ) Captain John A. Chouinard Memorial Scholarship - This $500 scholarship is available for any HWRHS senior based on need, academic performance and positive contributions to the school community. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in aviation, aviation technology and/or the Air Force. (HWRHS common application) Christ Church Parish Day School Alumni Scholarship The recipient(s) of this award must have completed at least one year of Christ Church Parish Day School, be a graduating senior from HWRHS, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale), have demonstrated community service and be planning to attend a two or four year college. Deadline: April 7, 2017 (Application information will be listed in Naviance.) Mary Anne Cunningham Burridge Memorial Scholarship - This $1,500 scholarship is given in memory of Mary Anne Cunningham Burridge, a life long resident of Hamilton. A 1946 graduate of HWRHS, Mary Anne wanted to go to college but was unable to due to the death of both of her parents while she was in high school. Instead, she found a job at the telephone company where she worked diligently and conscientiously for 43 years. Mary Anne was passionate about the history of Hamilton, working tirelessly for the Historical Society. The recipient should be a graduating Hamilton resident from HWRHS with definitive financial need, shown interest/involvement in the community of Hamilton, accepted to college and has an interest in business/finance. Preference will be given to those with challenged family situations. (HWRHS common application) Curious Artificers Masonic Club of Hamilton - (A. Warren & Merle Parsons Scholarship) This $1,000 scholarship is available to all HWRHS graduating seniors. It is given in memory of A. Warren and Merle Parsons. The selection will be made on the basis of personal character, academic performance, contributions to school and financial need. Preference may be given to those with a masonic connection. (HWRHS common application) Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Chapter Future Teacher Scholarship For Young Women $500 Scholarship will be awarded to a female student who wants to be a teacher, has good citizenship, shows concern for others through school and/or community activities and who is entering a two or four year college. (Deadline: Postmarked by April 15, 2017) 3
4 Emilio A. DiFelice and Mary A. DiFelice Scholarship Trust Income from this trust will be used to provide a full tuition scholarship for a deserving college student(s) who attains a B or better average in the year prior at high school, prep school, or prior year of college. Providing that the grade average is maintained, the Trustees will have the right to continue the grant to the same student(s) in successive years. As this is a full tuition scholarship, consideration will be given to students receiving little or no financial aid. Thomas F. Dorman Memorial Scholarship Given in memory of Tom Dorman, who taught at HWRHS for 35 years. His family s wish is to carry on his love for teaching by helping others interested in pursing a career in education. (Deadline: April 7, 2017) (Application information will be listed in Naviance.) Charles W. Eliot Award This scholarship (at least $500) is open to any Senior in a Secondary School in the 101 cities/towns in the MAPC (Metropolitan Area Planning Council) Region who is planning to further his/her education in the fields of Land Use Planning, Open Space Protection, Land Management or Conservation & Ecological Issues. Essex County Farm Bureau Scholarship This $1,000 renewable scholarship is offered to a student who has been accepted at any college or university and comes from a family with a Farm Bureau membership. It is desirable but not necessary that the student s field of study be connected in some way to the farming industry. Student may reapply for this award in following years. Receipt of this award will not affect other financial aid offer. Essex County Fruit Growers Scholarship This $750 renewable scholarship is offered every year to a student or students who come from a family with agricultural or horticultural backgrounds or they themselves have past experience in these fields or a passion to pursue a related occupation. It is desirable but not necessary that their field of study be in these areas directly. Student may reapply for this award in following years. Receipt of this award will not affect other financial aid offers. Essex County League of Sportsmen s Clubs, Inc. Scholarship Award This $500 award is for a secondary school graduate (or equivalent) who is determined to pursue post secondary studies at an accredited school/college in any of the following fields: Game Biology; Game Management; Fish Biology and Fish Culture Management and Propagation, either in land or marine waters; Forestry Management and Culture; Conservation of forests and land; Environmental Law Enforcement and other areas of interest to the Sportsman. (Deadline: Must be postmarked by the 3 rd Friday in March) Anita Pacione Evetts "Shine On" Scholarship $1,000 award given in memory of Anita Pacione Evetts who was a person of uncommon courage, talent, creativity and joy. Applicants must submit an essay about a teacher, mentor or coach who has helped them to shine on. 4
5 The Lee Ann Carroll Fandel Scholarship - This $1,000 scholarship is available to any graduating HWRHS senior who intends to enroll in a nursing program. Basis of selection will include financial need, academic performance and school/community involvement. Funds will be disbursed after the successful completion of the first semester in a nursing program. (HWRHS common application) Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholarships The New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Fisher Cats Foundation award scholarships to two outstanding scholar athletes from Northern Massachusetts who demonstrate excellent academic performance, significant athletic achievement and active civic involvement. Each award will be $2,500 and will include recognition at a Fisher Cats game during the 2017 season. Applicants must reside in Massachusetts, be graduating from high school in 2017 and planning to enroll in a four-year degree program or planning to attend a local community college or technical school in the fall. Link to the 2017 application: (Deadline: April 30, 2017 at 5:00 PM) Friends of HWRHS This scholarship is available to all HWRHS graduating seniors. The Friends award two $1,000 scholarships based on service to the school community, financial need and good academic standing. (HWRHS common application) Gerondelis Foundation Scholarships - Scholarships of up to $3,000 (depending on the number of qualified applicants) will be awarded to graduating seniors who reside or attend school in Essex County, rank in the top 15% of their class or have achieved a combined verbal and math score of 1200 on the SAT I test, have been officially admitted to a four year college or university; and must be at least one-half Greek lineage. (Application information will be listed in Naviance when available usually later in spring.) Hamilton Foundation Scholarship Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who are residents of Hamilton. These scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of need. Preference will be given to students who have maintained a strong academic record while working at a part-time job and/or participating in service and extracurricular activities. (HWRHS common application) Hamilton-Wenham Garden Club Scholarship This scholarship (currently $1,000) is available to any graduating senior living in Hamilton or Wenham who plans to major in agriculture, arboriculture, botany, conservation, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, landscape design or another related field at an accredited two or four year college. (HWRHS common application) Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club Awards scholarships for one academic year to graduating HWRHS seniors. At least one of the awards will go to seniors who have demonstrated outstanding service to their school, church or community and another scholarship will be awarded to a student who has been a member in good standing for at least one year of the Rotary Interact Club. 6 Elizabeth Torrey Johnson Memorial (Friends of Beverly Hospital) - This scholarship is available to seniors and advanced students who have served a minimum of 100 hours as a volunteer at Beverly Hospital or any of its affiliated sites and who are pursing a career in the human health care field. Student may re-apply for this scholarship each year. Kiwanis Scholarship The Kiwanis Club of Beverly awards two $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors based upon community service and community involvement, financial need, and academics. One award will be for a Beverly resident and one for a Hamilton-Wenham resident regardless of the school they attend. If equally qualified students deserve recognition, the committee may divide the scholarship. (HWRHS common application.) Jayson T. Kmiec Memorial Scholarship - This $2,000 scholarship is available to any HWRHS senior who intends to continue his or her academics in pursuing their career in the engineering field. Jayson's education from HWRHS enabled him to continue his dream for engineering which he shared with his peers to make this a better world. May the applicant for this scholarship have the same dream. (HWRHS common application) The Massachusetts Broadcasters Association Student Broadcaster Scholarship Program A $2,000 scholarship for students who are permanent residents of Massachusetts and are in the process of enrolling, or are currently enrolled at an accredited institution of higher learning including vocational schools, two or four year colleges or universities offering degrees in radio and television broadcasting. Also available is the Al Sprague Memorial Scholarship, a $3,000 award for a student who shows the most promise in advocacy, leadership and entrepreneurship. Educational Foundation (MRAEF) and The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) Scholarships The MRAEF in partnership with the NRAEF will be offering scholarships to students accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited culinary school, college or university. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.65 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). Culinary arts or restaurant/foodservice work experience is also required. Visit the MRA Web site at for more information. The Betty Gillette Newburyport Choral Society Scholarship - $1,000 award for a high school senior who is planning to major in music in college. (Application information will be listed in Naviance when available.) The Kevin J. Noone Memorial Scholarship - This $1,500 scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Kevin Noone, a gentleman of strong moral character who valued family, friends, education and athletics. Applicant must be a senior at HWRHS who is a student-athlete. Scholarship will be awarded based on character, service to school or community and financial need. (HWRHS common application.) 6
7 North Shore Players Memorial Scholarship $750 Scholarship granted to a graduating senior who plans to major in the performing arts (theatre, music, dance) and is currently attending Andover, Beverly, Danvers, Georgetown, Hamilton-Wenham Regional, Lynn Classical, Lynn English, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Masconomet, North Andover, Peabody, Salem or Swampscott High School. Home Schooled students from the above communities represented above may apply. If the applicant or their parent has been a member of the North Shore Players for at least the past 2 years, then the applicant may be a senior at any accredited high school. Scholarship applications can be downloaded from Naviance or from their website: (Deadline: RECEIVED BY April 1, 2017) NSCC Foundation Scholarships NSCC awards scholarships each year to incoming and current students, as well as graduates pursuing further education at four-year colleges or universities. Scholarships are based on academic and non-academic criteria, as well as demonstrated need. Applications and information are available at: Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund Applicants must be a US citizen or noncitizen who has a current lawful presence in the US and is eligible to file a FAFSA and be a permanent resident of a New England state. Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), be enrolled in a demanding course of study, demonstrate skilled writing ability, demonstrate a desire to make a meaningful contribution to society both present and future, be involved in a balance of community, school and work activities, pursue goals and aspirations with integrity, resolution, self-discipline and judgment. Qualifying applicants will have one or more or the following: Substantial unmet need; Special financial circumstances; Low EFC from FAFSA s Student Aid Report; In most cases, awards range from $3,000 to $18,000 (with an average of $6,000) renewable yearly. (Deadline: Due by noon on May 1, 2017 Early Response Deadline: Due by noon on April 3, 2017) The Louis and Mary Polsonetti Memorial Scholarship A $1,000 scholarship will be given in memory of Louis and Mary Polsonetti. Dr. & Mrs. Polsonetti were devoted parents and positive, beloved members of the Hamilton-Wenham community. Dr. Polsonetti loved the arts and sciences and was committed to his profession. Mary Polsonetti taught French and English and had a passion for music and painting. Applicants should be accepted at a four year college with a major in Arts, Science or Engineering, have a cumulative GPA in the top third of the HWRHS senior class and have a definite financial need. (HWRHS common application) The Rebekah Assembly of Massachusetts, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Memorial Scholarship - $500 Scholarship to qualified seniors who plan to attend two or four year college programs. Particular interest is given to the needs and goals of the applicant. Additional chance for matching grant available. 8 Rotary District 7930 Service Above Self Scholarship $10,000 award is given to recognize an outstanding high school senior who has demonstrated his/her commitment to Service Above Self in their community, a town or city within Rotary District 7930 which includes the greater Boston and Salem, New Hampshire areas. Active involvement in Rotary events is required. For complete criteria, please see the application which is available in Naviance. Children and grandchildren of living Rotarians are not eligible for this scholarship. Deadline: May 1 st. (Application information listed in Naviance.) St. Jean s Credit Union Six $1,500 awards available to high school seniors who will be enrolled in an undergraduate college degree program during the academic year. Applicant or parent must be a member of the Credit Union. Membership is open to any resident of Essex, Suffolk or Middlesex County. Glines Cannon Scholarship - This scholarship will be awarded to a student who intends on entering the teaching field and have a real financial need. - Robert L. Rasche Scholarship - This will be awarded to a graduating senior regardless of religious affiliation or place of residence, whose experience and purpose is in keeping with the goals of Dr. Rasche, willingness to live for others, intends to increase their ability to serve and have a real financial need. The Shoppes at Hamilton Crossing Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship is available to any graduating HWRHS student who is planning to continue their education and is interested is pursuing a business career. This scholarship will be based on academic achievement, character, contribution to school life and financial need. (HWRHS common application) The Peggy and Paul Stahlberg Memorial Scholarship Award This $750 scholarship is given by the Solstice Singers in memory of Peggy and Paul Stahlberg, long time members of the Solstice Singers. As role models, they clearly loved and supported music. This award is for a senior member of Harmony who exemplifies the dedication and love of the choral tradition that would make Peggy, Paul, the Solstice Singers and Harmony proud. Teacher.org s Inspire Our Future Scholarship - $2,500 scholarship to help teacher candidates or experienced teachers continuing their education. 9 The Mary Lois Thompson Memorial Scholarship This $1,000 scholarship is available to any graduating HWRHS senior who is planning to continue their education and has a passion for music. Mary was the beloved daughter of Hamilton residents Nancy and Roger Thompson and sister of Ian and Brenna Thompson. This scholarship has been set up in memory of Mary, who was a fifth grader at the Cutler School at the time of her passing. During her ten years, Mary had an everlasting smile, a passion for music, and knew what it meant to live life to the fullest. (HWRHS common application) Topsfield Fair: - Deadline: April 1, 2017 Link to applications and information: (Application information will be listed in Naviance.) - Essex Agricultural Society Scholarship Offered annually to well-rounded students. Recipient will be chosen based on their transcript, activities and volunteerism. There will be 25 $1,000 awards. - Charles E. Larner Family Foundation four $2,000 awards open to all Essex County resident high school seniors pursuing Agriculture as their area of focus in College. You must have worked on a farm or in that field for one growing season or have been involved in FFA or 4-H for 2 years to be eligible. A 250-word essay is required. See application and/or website for complete details. Title I Robert J. Watson Memorial Scholarship - Provides a $1,500 scholarship for one or more graduating seniors who have been accepted into a post-secondary undergraduate program. The eligibility requirements for this scholarship are demonstrated need and that the applicant participated in a Title I funded Targeted Assistance or Schoolwide program for at least one academic year, at any grade level. Wenham Village Improvement Society, Inc. - This scholarship will be awarded to a resident of Wenham entering any year of his or her college education. Students showing an interest in community service and their hometown of Wenham are encouraged to apply. Since its inception in 1950 WVIS has awarded over $614,000 in Scholarships to Wenham students. Many of the scholarship donations are made in memory of Wenham residents including the Pierce, Birkemose, Whittier, Ayers, Kimball, Boyd and Aldrich families. Wood Memorial Scholarship Awards are made annually to assist a first year student or students from Essex County who plan to enter a full time college program which will lead to a degree major in forestry, botany, conservation, wildlife management, or fire suppression and prevention in college, junior college which grants an associate or bachelors degree in one of the named fields. 10 The following scholarships are awarded by committee - students do not apply: The Alumni Compassion Award - HWRHS Alumni have gotten together to fund an award for a graduating member of the HWRHS senior class that resides in either Hamilton or Wenham. The recipient will be chosen based on character and not academic ability. The alumni would like to reward someone who has displayed good values and moral compassion; someone who doesn t necessarily stand out in the crowd, but stands up for others. Soteros Apostolakos/Anna Pappas Memorial Scholarship Selected by the scholarship committee for contributions to the school. Ben Brettler Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a student who has excelled in math or physical sciences. Gorton s of Gloucester (North Shore Community College Scholarship) This award may be given to a graduating senior who is planning to attend North Shore Community College and is a resident of Cape Ann (Gloucester, Rockport, Ipswich, Manchester or Essex.) Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce The Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce supports local businesses in Beverly, Danvers, Hamilton and Wenham. One student graduating from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School will be selected to receive their award of between $500 - $1,000. Hamilton-Wenham Education Association Recipients are selected by the Association. Donald Haraden Memorial Scholarship Given in memory of Donald Haraden, a HWRHS graduate who loved Applied Technology and hockey. Sherman A. Kinney Scholarship This scholarship is awarded annually to graduating senior members of the basketball team who best exemplify the ideals and character of Sherman Kinney, former teacher, coach and athletic director at the Regional. Jennie Mears Memorial Scholarship Jennie Mears was a long time entrepreneur who managed her own store in Hamilton for many years. conscientious effort that has yet to be rewarded. Criteria used for consideration is Paul Moscovitch Memorial Scholarship In Paul Moscovitch s memory, his friends and relatives have donated this scholarship to honor a student each year that shared Paul s interest in science, his pride in his own hard work and his caring interest in his fellow students. 10
11 The Gabriel Pacione Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an accomplished Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School senior whose personal, academic, artistic or athletic success is complemented by the energy and passion with which they encourage others in the Hamilton- Wenham school community. This Scholarship will be awarded on Scholarship Night at HWRHS. The Gabriel Pacione Cape Ann League Scholarship Awarded to an accomplished Cape Ann League senior XC/Track and Field athlete who leads by example and whose outstanding performance and sportsmanship encourages and inspires others in the athletic community. This scholarship will be presented to the student athlete at the recipient s school scholarship ceremony (if applicable). Helene Pruszcyski Scholarship Selected by a committee for the most valuable contribution to a music and/or drama production. Touchdown Club Awards Selected by members of the Touchdown Club. The Alfred and Sara G. Weis Memorial Scholarship To be awarded to a graduating senior who is a Hamilton resident based on scholastic record, excellent personal character and possible financial need. Arthur & Harriet Wright Memorial Scholarship This scholarship may be given to a resident of Essex, Gloucester or Rockport. The student must plan to continue their education after high school. The scholarship is based on character, concern for the needs of others, potential for achievement, financial need and scholarship. 11
