Alicia was constantly striving to better her education and sought challenging positions to maximize her ability to contribute which led her into politics in the late 80 s and she was elected as the first woman mayor in the Valley. Among her last wishes was a desire to continue to give back to her home community through scholarships. She wished these to be in memory of two members of her family who predeceased her and were very important to her. These two individuals were her mother Florence Burns and her younger brother Tim.
