The settlement (PDF) resolves a lawsuit filed last fall that claimed Lincare failed to implement the most basic security safeguards to prevent a breach. A human resources employee fell victim to a phishing scam in February 2017 in which the sender claimed to be a Lincare executive asking for employee W-2s. The Florida-based company provides in-home respiratory therapy equipment for customers suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Lincare has more than 14,000 employees across more than 1,000 locations. A Lincare spokesperson declined to comment. Although the breach did not involve patient information, it served as a reminder that healthcare organizations are also susceptible to breaches involving employees, with significant liability in some cases. Lincare offered credit monitoring to employees after the breach was discovered, but plaintiffs described that as a minor half-measure that did not safeguard and protect the [information] already released. As part of the settlement, Lincare did not admit to any wrongdoing. The $875,000 will be divvied up into two funds, with $550,000 to compensate class members that suffered an out-of-pocket loss and $325,000 reserved for members that experienced an eligible incident, such as a fraudulent tax return, or a fraudulent loan or credit card. The settlement comes as healthcare data breaches are drawing more scrutiny from federal and state regulators. Healthcare companies are also finding themselves in legal hot water as hacker groups continue to prey on long-standing vulnerabilities.

7 Welcome, Sue Silcox! Director of Surgical Services Please join us in welcoming Sue Silcox, Director of Surgical Services. Sue received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Somerset Community College and her BSN from the University of Phoenix (Sacramento campus). Sue knew at an early age that she would be a Nurse and felt that working in the Operating Room was a calling. She has worked multiple places, large and small, but always in Surgical Services. Sue has been featured in numerous publications throughout her career and has attended multiple conferences to present her work. She has even traveled to Singapore and Borneo to render surgical care. Her hobbies include golf, gardening, and cooking. She also plays the organ and piano for church. Sue and her late husband have three children, all grown; multiple grandchildren, most grown; and several great grandchildren. Sue is also extremely active in the community. She presents different health topics to elementary school children and at PTA Meetings, as well as volunteering for the American Red Cross Disaster Team. She also combines her hobbies with community involvement by cooking for church attendees who can no longer cook or afford a hot meal. After moving to Adair County to take care of her parents, she has stayed in the area. Sue says, I have heard so much about TJ Samson from people in Adair County that have been patients here. They had all good things to say of the care, the staff, the doctors, the environment and the ease in which they can get in and out of the facility. When she saw the opening for Director of Surgical Services, Sue said I was excited to think I might be considered to come to TJ and be part of the team. We are so happy to have you on our team, Sue, and welcome to the T.J. Family!

13 Including the Family Week 7: Family Dinner Fun A major key to improved health and better weight management is getting your family on board. If the thought of making healthy dinners has you stressed, focus on the following tips to ease your workload and get the whole family involved. o o o o o Include the kids. They are more likely to eat what they helped create. Have them chop vegetables, season the meat or snap the ends off the green beans. Make a plan, but don t do it alone. Require each of your family members to contribute one healthy meal idea per week so that you aren t stuck coming up with all the ideas yourself. 20 minute minimum. Make it a new family policy: no one gets up for seconds before 20 minutes. Chew slowly. Create a game of it. Who can finish their plate last? Fruity dessert. Fruit offers a sweet, nutritious alternative to other desserts. Make a habit of having fruit for dessert. Eating Out Healthy eating doesn't have to be limited to the kitchen table. Use these guidelines to make healthy choices when eating out with your family. Healthy Recipe Take your tater tot love to a new level. Try these cauliflower tots. 14 Including the Family Week 8: Family Exercise Strategies Working out with other family members is a great way to stay active! Experts recommend that children get at least 60 minutes of activity daily. Below are fun ways to accumulate minutes of exercise. Make it a competition. Create an exercise chart to track how much activity each family member does. The one who accumulates the most minutes each week gets to pick the next family outing. Count your steps. Wear a step counting device (pedometer, Fitbit, etc.) and talk about daily steps at dinner time. Try something new. Family dance parties, obstacle courses, or swim lessons are great options. Do something outdoors. Hike, walk, sled, ice-skate, swim, play kickball, or ride bikes. Turn TV commercials into fitness breaks. Make the most of TV time by exercising during the commercial breaks. Have each family member pick an exercise (squats, push-ups, sit-ups, etc.) and do them together until the show comes back on. More Family Movement Ideas Walk the dog. Make it a family event. Go to a dog park and run around with other dogs or walk the park. Get an active board game. Make family game night active and purchase games that make you move. Try Twister, Fitivities, Crazy Leg, Fitness in a Box, The Fitness Challenge, or create your own scavenger hunt. Park games. Go to the park and play tag, hide-and-go seek, or create an obstacle course on the playground. Sign up for a family fun run/walk. Completing a 1 mile or 5K is inspiring and motivating for everyone! Healthy Lunch Ideas Need some fresh ideas to make your kids' lunches fun? Check out this article on banishing brown bag boredom. 15 Your Brain on Food Week 9: Mental Health and Your Food Choices What you eat greatly impacts your mental health and your current mental state will have a direct impact on your food intake. With this in mind, make your mental health a priority with the following tips. Unplug. Over-stimulation often leads to food choices we regret. Make a habit of regularly unplugging from devices and checking in with yourself, especially before you eat. Stress plan. Poor food choices made during times of stress only compound your body s stress response by increasing stress-related hormones. The impact physically and mentally is always negative. Fun foods are fine in moderation, but retrain your brain to focus on healthy food during times of stress. It s even more paramount. Take a mental health day. Consider taking a day off to focus on your mental health. You don t have to spend 8 hours in a yoga studio; make it a day full of whatever you find most relaxing. Maybe it s gardening, fishing, reading in a coffee shop, spending time by the water, skiing, or whatever else allows you to enter a more peaceful mental state. Planning a mental health day every few weeks may be your secret to making better food choices consistently. Your Brain on Food Don't take our word for it. Check out what the experts at Harvard have to say about nutritional psychiatry: your brain on food. Healthy Recipe Warm up with this delicious, flavorful curried apple butternut squash soup.
