1 TEAM JANUARY 30, 2017 Congratulations, Jennifer Thacker! Jennifer Thacker, RN, has worked in the T.J. Samson Intensive Care Unit since Her Daisy Award nomination was received from a patient who wrote the following letter: Jennifer went way above and beyond taking care of my mother in ICU. She was concerned not only for mom, but for me and dad, too. We feel if were not there and Jennifer was, mom would be in the best of hands. The way the world is today you don't hear this very often, so thank you T.J. for putting Jennifer to take care of mom, and thank you Jennifer, we know what you did. Even though we only knew you after our visit, it's like you are family to us. Now it's like family taking care of family. Way to go, Jennifer! Keep up the great work! Congratulations, Laura Abernathy! Laura Abernathy, BSN, RN, CWCN, recently received her certification in Wound Care following her completion of a nine month course from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse program at Emory is accredited by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Society Certification Board (WOCNCB). Laura plans to further her accreditation by completing the Ostomy test portion within the next six months. Great job, Laura!

4 WHY? Thousands of people die every day around the world from infections acquired while receiving health care. Hands are the main pathways of germ transmission during health care. Hand hygiene is therefore the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent health care-associated infections HOW? Clean your hands by rubbing them with an alcohol-based formula, as the preferred mean for routine hygienic hand antisepsis is hands are not visibly soiled. Wash your hands with soap and water when hands are visibly dirty or visibly soiled with blood or other body fluids. If exposure to potential spore-forming pathogens is strongly suspected or proven, including outbreaks of Clostridium difficile (C-Diff), hand washing with soap and water is the preferred means. When? Before touching a patient Before clean/aseptic procedure After body fluid exposure risk After touching a patient After touching patient surroundings World Health Organization, Patient Safety, Save Lives, Clean your hands TJ Samson Regional Health 100.0% Hand Hygiene Observed Compliance % 60.0% 40.0% 20.0% 0.0% Nursing Providers Rehab Rad.
