3 About Us Summerhouse Training is part of Summerhouse Equestrian and has been working nationally for over 30 years. We originally started delivering Equine qualifications but we expanded into Business Services, Adult Care and Beauty Therapy! Utilising our highly trained lecturers and assessors, we provide all levels of Beauty Therapy courses in a variety of subjects. Our courses are tailored to meet the needs of all our learners, making sure they achieve their potential to be able to take their skills into the industry. We provide Continuous Professional Development to learners who may already have qualifications and are looking to extend their skills, as well as providing courses to those who would like to enter the world of beauty with short and long courses. Our training team is here to support you every way possible. Our lecturers will inspire, motivate and help you achieve your qualification, whether your focus is on technical excellence or inspired creativity. We focus on professionalism with a high level of learning to ensure you receive the best education as well as giving you that step ahead when entering into the industry. 4 Support Team A number of people will be involved in the support and delivery of the qualification: Quality Assurer: During your induction, we will be able to explain how the course will work and we'll work together to tailor the programme to your areas of expertise and to match the career path you have planned. There will be quite a lot of 'paperwork' to complete initially, but it's necessary. Don't worry we ll try to make it as easy and enjoyable for you as possible. From there, you will continue to have teaching and assessment sessions which will take place either on the day or weekly and is dependent on the course you have chosen. The sessions will include training on techniques, knowledge and building your skills as well as observing you to show competence. The content of these sessions are built around your chosen subject, and by utilising our teaching and assessing expertise, we are able to provide you with a bespoke course, personalised to your individual development needs. You can expect regular programme reviews, signing off on the targets you have achieved, embarking on new focus areas and planning future goals. You don't have to wait until the end of the course to see results; from these reviews, you'll begin to notice new found skills and track your progression through the evidence that has been gathered. 2

5 Funding Information Retrain with no upfront costs! For our full VTCT level 3 courses you may be eligible to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with some or all of the costs of a course. It is easy to apply for, doesn t take your household income into account and doesn t involve a credit check. You ll only have to pay your loan back at a monthly rate once you earn more than 21,000 per annum! What if I never earn more than 21,000 per annum? Currently if you do not exceed an annual salary of more than 21,000 your loan will never be repaid, but you can make voluntary repayments before then. Can the 19+ Advanced Learning Loan be written off or cancelled? Normally any outstanding loan you have will be written off 30 years after it becomes eligible to be repaid. If you receive a disability-related benefit and are permanently unfit for work, it will be cancelled. Who is eligible for a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan? To be eligible for the loan you must be: 19 or older on the first day of your course (there s no upper age limit) living in the UK on the first day of your course, and have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 years immediately before this starting your course on or after 1 August 2013 Is there a maximum amount of Loan available? The course fees of our courses eligible for the 19+ Advanced Learner Loans can be entirely covered by the loan amount you are able to take out. However, if you wish to take out a smaller amount (not less than 300) and fund the rest yourself, you are able to do this. Is 19+ Advanced Learning Loan available to students with existing qualifications? Yes, previous qualifications that learners have achieved do not affect their ability to apply for a Loan to gain new qualifications. You may also be eligible for money from the Advanced Learner Loan Bursary Fund if you need help with some costs while studying, e.g. childcare, travel or trips related to your course. We also offer a range of ABT insurance approved one day beauty courses. These are at an individual cost and are self funded. 6 About our Courses Summerhouse Training is very focus on making sure our teaching ratios allow every single learner to receive all the support and guidance they need to succeed. Our courses have the latest technology to ensure that you have all the online support you need at home, supported by excellent training resources within the training centre. We vary the lessons with a combinations of theory based activities and games, alongside lots of practical elements. All full level 3 courses are insurance approved and you will receive a VTCT certificate. All of our learners who have completed a full day course with Summerhouse Training will receive an ABT approved certificate. Preparing for the Courses We will be very excited about getting you prepared for your course and helping on your journey to success. Therefore they will be some expectation regarding your personal presentation. You will need to attend your course dressed appropriately and wearing a tunic. If you do not own a tunic, you must wear black trousers and a black top or shirt. You must wear sensible, flat shoes and long hair must be tied up. If attending a nail course, please ensure that all polish, extensions or nail enhancements are removed prior to attending. To attend any of our courses, unless otherwise stated, you must be over 19 years of age. Please ensure that you arrive on time, preferably 15 minutes before your lesson is due to commence. Some of our courses require you to bring a model. Your model will need to be over 16 years of age with written parental consent (over 18 on selected courses), and have completed and signed a Model Indemnity Form. If your course requires you to apply tint or glue, you will need to skin-test the product on your model at least 48 hours before the course starts, in line with the manufacturer s instructions. Where model arrival times are specified, this is an estimation only, course times may vary depending on student numbers therefore some flexibility may be required. 4

7 Full Level 3 Courses Diploma In Nail Technology This qualification that will prepare you for a career as a nail technician. This qualification is designed for learners aged 18 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a nail technician, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role Provide Manicure treatments Provide Pedicure treatments Apply and maintain nail enhancements Design and apply nail art Client Care and communication in beauty related industries Monitor and maintain Health and Safety practice in the salon Maintain personal health and well being Promote products and services to clients in a salon Had a manicure & pedicure, spent a lovely morning there & learned a lot! It's a training school all very professional, recommend it to anyone! Certificate In Swedish Massage This qualification that will provide the basis for a career as a masseuse. This Certificate is designed for learners aged 19 years or over and will support you to gain and understand the techniques for Swedish Massage. Achieving this course will allow you to become insured to practice Swedish Massage. Additional day courses are also available to enhance this qualification. Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon Client care and communication in beautyrelated industries Provide body massage 5

8 Day Courses Our day courses are designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to provide treatments. Within the one day you will cover: Health, hygiene and presentation Health and safety Anatomy and physiology Benefits and history of the treatment Treatment precautions Equipment and material needed Preparations needed consultations Service procedure Communication and literacy skills Small areas of maths What will you need: Good personal presentation is required, alongside good personal hygiene. All the equipment you need to complete the day course will be provided. However to continue your practice at home you may want to invest in some of the tools and products recommended within your training day. 6

9 Day Course in Indian Head Massage This is a very popular treatment that can be done on a couch or a chair. The powers of the Ancient massage techniques will improve your clients health and well-being and also help the condition of the scalp and hair. Key features: Review of Indian head massage techniques and products History and benefits of Indian head massage Anatomy and physiology (head, neck and shoulders) Client consultation techniques and aftercare advice Health and safety, hygiene and infection control Key learning elements: The skills and knowledge required to safely and confidently perform a luxury Indian head massage to a high standard Health and safety knowledge to carry out the service confidently Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should be fit and healthy 7

10 Day Course in Threading Threading is a highly popular technique for hair removal. It is a non-invasive treatment which doesn t involve applying any products onto the skin. This is a quick and simple alternative method of eyebrow and facial hair removal that can be provided anywhere. Key features: Threading practical and supporting theory History and advantages of threading Anatomy and physiology of the hair and skin Client consultation techniques and contraindications Aftercare advice Healthy and safety, salon hygiene and infection control Key learning elements: Full understanding of the practical application and supporting theory surrounding threading the skills and knowledge required to complete this treatment confidently and safely Health and safety knowledge to carry out the service confidently Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should be fit and healthy 8

11 Day Course in Manicure and Pedicure Manicure and pedicures treatments help the condition of the skin and nails, but also has a very relaxing effect on the client. This treatment can be adapted in many ways from being basic to very luxury. Key features: One day course on the basic application and procedure of manicures and pedicures Key learning elements: The skills and knowledge required to complete a manicure and pedicure treatment on clients Retail opportunities and confidence building Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should arrive with natural nails free from nail extensions or product 1 Day 10am - 4:30pm 9

12 Day Course in Contouring Make up Apply a professional make-up look is simple and very effect. This treatment is very adaptable and mobile. From the basic daytime look to a dramatic evening look with false lashes, this treatment is one of the most popular treatments in hair and beauty salons. Key features: Enhancing blending skills by using contouring products Using different shades of products to create different looks Learning how to apply the correct stages of make-up Key learning elements: Applying the correct products in the professional stages Learn how to use highlighting and shading to create effects Practising blending techniques by using different tools Contouring eyebrows to enhance the look with templates and products Discussing and practising retails skills and confidence building techniques Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should arrive with natural nails free from nail extensions or product 1 Day 10am - 4:30pm 10

13 Day Course in Make up Services Professional make-up application is one of the most popular beauty treatments. From daytime to evening make-up being able to provide this treatment will increase your client base. It is a very profitable treatment that can be provided in any environment. Key features: In-depth training on the correct application stages Daytime make-up and evening make-up looks Application of false lashes to enhance the features Key learning elements: Correct application of a professional make-up looks Step by step guidance on each stage Different looks for daytime and evening Application of false lashes Retail opportunity and client record cards. 14 Day Course in Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting This treatment is very effective, it enhances the eyebrow shape and provides the client with a permanent mascara look. This treatment is great for clients who do not wear make-up and lasts up to 4 weeks. Key features: Review of eyelash and brow tinting procedures using colour guides Treatment procedures and the lash and tint combined technique Troubleshooting, promotion and marketing advice Client consultation techniques and contraindications Health, safety and salon hygiene Key learning elements: The skills and knowledge required to successfully perform tinting treatments Health and safety knowledge specific to eyelash and eyebrow treatments Aftercare for the client and troubleshooting Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 18 years of age A patch test must be performed at least 48hrs before attending the course,please visit the training centre for your free test Students are required to arrive wearing minimal eye make-up and no waterproof mascara or eyelash extensions Students will need to remove contact lenses so should make provisions for this 1 Day 10am 4.30pm 12

15 Day Course in Gel Polish Gel Polish has become one of the most popular nail treatments. The long lasting effect of the polish is so simple to do, and your clients will love it. The polish has a long lasting shine and wont chip or flake like standard nail enamel. Your clients will love this treatment and with some many trendy colour they will just keep coming back. Key features: Perform the correct nail preparations, UV/LED Polish application, including colour, French, infills, custom blending and design ideas Demonstration of how to Soak Off the Gel products for Key learning elements: The skills and knowledge required to apply UV/ LED Polish and complete a full manicure service on clients Health and safety knowledge to carry out the service confidently Demonstration on how to soak off the nails Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should arrive with natural nails free from nail extensions or product 1 Day 10am 4.30pm Please not the certificate for this course is for Gel polish application, a certificate in manicure will not be applied. 13

16 Day Course in Eyelash Extensions Eyelash extensions can become confused with cluster lashes. This is one singular lash applied to each singular natural lash, simply extended the length. This look is so natural and very effective. Clients have a choice on length and style and it lasts for many weeks until they need an infill. This treatment is very popular and encourages return clients. Key features: Review of the procedure, maintenance, rebalance and safe removal Troubleshooting, promotion and marketing Client consultation techniques and contraindications Health and safety Key learning elements: Understanding the application, rebalance and removal of semi-permanent eyelash extensions The skills and knowledge required to successfully perform the treatment Health and safety knowledge Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should arrive with natural nails free from nail extensions or product A glue test needs to be provided to the model 24-48hrs before the treatment Students should arrive wearing minimal eye make-up and no waterproof mascara or eyelash extensions Students will need to remove contact lenses so should make provisions for this This is quite an intensive treatment which requires long periods of concentration, if you have poor eyesight you may find this course quite difficult 1 Day 10am 4.30pm 14

17 Day Course in Facial Treatments Facial treatments are very relaxing but also have a fantastic effective on the condition of the skin. A basic facial treatment incudes cleansing, toning, exfoliating, massage, mask and then completing the treatment with professional moisturiser. We train our Therapists with MONU, this is a natural based professional product which clients absolutely love. Key features: Review of products and facial routines Anatomy and physiology (head, neck and shoulders) Skin analysis, including consultation techniques and aftercare advice Health and safety, hygiene and infection control Key learning elements: The knowledge and understanding to analyse skin types and perform a basic facial treatment The skills and knowledge required to create a tailored facial treatment for your clients Health and safety, client care and retail knowledge to perform a professional treatment Additional Information: Students are required to work on each other Student must be at least 16 years of age Students should arrive with natural nails free from nail extensions or product 1 Day 10am 4.30pm 15
