8 Our expanding organisation is going from strength to strength but the personal touch is never lost. This is achieved through having a local office and a local management team close to you, meaning all of our services are provided with sensitivity and are individualised to the needs of the people within the local community. what we do Our Services We all need support at particular times in our lives. Whether young or old it is becoming more and more difficult to rely on the people around us to fully support those needs. You and your aspirations are our focus. It is relatively straightforward for Safehands to support you in meeting simple daily tasks, such as washing, dressing and eating but there is much more to life than the everyday routine. Your needs and aspirations are at the centre of everything we do and this approach has helped us earn a quality assured reputation within the communities that Safehands operates in. We provide visits from as little as 30 minutes a day, all the way up to 24 hour live in care. Our services are now provided in England and Wales. Scope of our service Our service exists to enable adults over 18 with physical disabilities or health problems to live independently in their own homes and within the community, by offering them an alternative choice from residential or hospital care when they need help and support. We also offer support to children with disabilities and their families by enabling the parents to have respite whilst we care for your child either in the home environment or through social activities in the community. Availability We can offer you care at the time of day you require, to enable you to go to day centres, work or keep appointments. We are available from 7am - 10pm 7 days a week. Flexibility Because everybody s needs, abilities and choices vary, our service must be flexible, to meet the needs of individual people; the service we provide will depend on your requirements and choices, as well as our ability to meet those needs and preferences with the staff available at that time. Care Plan Before we begin providing a service we will asses your needs and undertake other assessments to highlight any risks involved in meeting those needs. We will agree with you how we will work together to arrange your care, this will be written up in a care plan. Services The list on the following page indicates the type of services we are able to provide. Some of the tasks may be carried out routinely while others will be subjected to consideration as may need specialist training. We are aware that no list of services can be completely exhaustive and we are always willing to adapt or expand the services we offer to suit individual requirements. 9 Before we provide services we ensure that a potential service user s needs and preferences are thoroughly assessed. We do this by coming to your home to visit you and find out what it is you want from us. our care We can arrange care for people who may need help and support, such as: Providing high quality personal care and support to Children, Adults and Elderly in your own home. Supporting individuals and families by offering respite services. We have two fully accessible hotels where we can continue with your care whilst your loved ones take a break. Supporting you with short term care when you have been discharged from hospital until you gain your confidence. Enabling individuals, to have professional care in their own homes or other appropriate venues as agreed. Why not let us enable you to engage within your community our carers can support you with your shopping, going to the bank or social outings. We can arrange for someone to accompany you to medical appointments. Delivering a service of the highest quality that will improve and sustain you or your loved one's overall quality of life, resulting in positive outcomes. Supporting you with domestic chores, washing, ironing and cleaning. Supporting you by providing meals or medication. Older people who need some support with getting up in the morning, or going to bed. Couples who would like some assistance for their partner such as keeping on top of household chores. People with a physical disability who may need assistance. People who have higher levels of care needs but do not wish to go into residential care choose our Live-in Care Service. Sometimes when someone has been discharged from hospital after illness or an operation, they will contact us for short term help until they are feeling fit again. Everyone enjoys some time to themselves and so we can take them out for a couple of hours, perhaps for a walk, coffee or lunch. Sometimes a weekly pampering session appeals. 10 Funding care in your own home Many people assume that receiving care in their own home could be beyond their financial means. By carrying out a little research and utilising resources available, your options will become easier to understand. funding your care State funding You may be eligible to receive help with funding care in your own home from the Government. You have the right to request a free care assessment from your local Social Services department; this can include a community care assessment and a means-tested financial assessment to see if you are eligible to receive support with the cost of your care. Be aware that you are not obliged to use Social Services choice of provider if you do qualify for funding and can request Direct Payment funding at any time. This allows you the freedom to choose your preferred supplier of care, see below. Direct payments If you have been assessed as needing care services, you may be offered Direct Payments; if not then you are entitled to request Direct Payments. As part of this arrangement you will receive payments directly from your local council which will allow you to choose your own care provider. These payments are designed to support you to remain living at home as well as encourage independence and social inclusion in areas such as employment, education, leisure activities and accessing the community. Central Government is looking to increase the number of people who receive direct payments, allowing more people access to the benefits that they bring. If you are considered eligible for support with funding your local council are duty bound to consider direct payments as an option, instead of making decisions on your behalf. 11 our care workers The key to our service is the quality of our care team who have a real desire to make a difference to the lives of the people they help support. We support them with full induction training, on-going training and offer career development opportunities. All our staff are supported with industry leading training and development and genuine career progression. Our customers benefit from well motivated, professional care workers who are committed and reliable to delivering a first class service. Our care workers are thoroughly vetted and trained with enhanced DBS checks (EDC in Northern Ireland and PVG in Scotland). This check is carried out on all our staff so you can be confident that the care workers visiting you in your home place are trustworthy and reliable. Your local team of care workers will deliver your care rather than one individual, making sure your needs are always met. Care Certificate The Care Certificate is an identified set of standards that health and social care workers adhere to in their daily working life. Designed with the non-regulated workforce in mind, the Care Certificate gives everyone the confidence that workers have the same introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide compassionate, safe and high quality care and support. The Care Certificate was developed, as part of the Cavendish Review work, jointly by Skills for Care, Health Education England and Skills for Health. Applies across health and social care. Links to National Occupational Standards and units in qualifications. Covers what is required to be caring, giving workers a good basis from which they can further develop their knowledge and skills. The Care Certificate is the start of the career journey for these staff groups and is only one element of the training and education that will make them ready to practice within their specific sector. Although the Care Certificate is designed for new staff, new to care and offers this group of staff their first step on their career ladder, it is also offers opportunities for existing staff to refresh or improve their knowledge. 11 The Care Certificate sets out explicitly the learning outcomes, competences and standards of care that will be expected in both sectors, ensuring that the Health Care Support Worker or Adult Social Care Worker is caring, compassionate and provides quality care.
