2 SAFETY TRAINING STARTS HERE Saskatchewan Polytechnic is your source for provincial training standards. Our Standardized Contractor Safety Training courses are developed in partnership with the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA) to provide common provincial training standards for all contractors working at SMA member companies. For contractors, this means one set of training standards for all SMA member sites, reducing repetitive training, saving time and money, as well as facilitating mobility. For SMA member companies, it s assurance that contractor employees have the knowledge and training necessary to keep work sites safe. Register early. Many courses fill quickly.

3 STANDARDIZED CONTRACTOR SAFETY TRAINING COURSES General Mine Safety Awareness (CE-4302) Required by either June 30 or September 30 based on the mine site. This 24-hour mine safety training course is a requirement for any contractor working on a mine site in Saskatchewan. Thirteen modules cover Saskatchewan Mining Regulations Employment Act, hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, safe use of hand and power tools, safe use of scaffolding and ladders, controlled energy, fire safety, environmental safety, reporting incidents, ground control awareness, self-rescue techniques, asbestos awareness and fit for duty/drug and alcohol testing. Upon successful completion of GMSA exam, participants receive wallet card with three-year certification. Online and Length: 24 hours Cost: $646 GST included Compressed Gas/Hot Work (CE-4309) Covers compressed gas/cylinder identification, safety devices, ventilation, safe transportation, storage, safe use in confined spaces and safe handling procedures. Online and Length: 4 hours Cost: $110 plus GST Confined Space (CE-4305) Overview of working in confined spaces, including legislative requirements, identifying hazards and controls, atmospheric testing, signage and tagging, emergency response and confined space entry plan. Length: 8 hours Cost: $210 plus GST Facilitator Training (CE-4300) Learn how to become a motivated, competent trainer. Covers learning theory, adult education principles, learning outcomes and evaluation, course design and communication techniques. Participants design and deliver a practice training session for instructor feedback. Length: 30 hours Costs: $999 plus GST Forklift Certification (CE-4720) Overview of forklift operation, including operator safety responsibilities, monitoring systems, forklift controls, pre-operating and operating checklists, safe operation, signal-person responsibilities, forklift classes and safe shut-down procedures. Specifically addresses Saskatchewan OH & S legislation. Length: 16 hours Cost: $680 plus GST Standardized Safety Training 1

4 General Fall Protection (CE-4304) Overview of fall protection, including legislative requirements, fall arrest terminology, fall protection equipment and use, hazards associated with working at heights and how to complete a fall protection work-entry plan. Participants may be briefly suspended in a harness. Length: 8 hours Cost: $210 plus GST Ground Disturbance (CE-4307) Comprehensive course examines pre-job planning strategies, searching disturbance area, notification requirements, locating and marking, hand and mechanical exposure guidelines, as-builts and post-inspection requirements. Online and Length: 8 hours Cost: $210 plus GST Incident Investigation (SFTY 1810) (CE-4308) Introduction on investigating incidents in order to prevent reoccurrence. Covers the basics of investigations, including legislative requirements, interviewing witnesses, collecting and analyzing evidence and writing reports. Online and Length: 8 hours Cost: $210 plus GST Respiratory/Fit Testing (CE-4303) Overview of respiratory protection and fit testing procedures, including legislation, inhalation hazards, types of respirators, selection of appropriate respiratory protection, respirator use, care and maintenance and general fit testing procedures. Length: 4 hours Cost: $110 plus GST WHMIS 2015 (CE-4301) Provides an understanding of hazards and how to work safely with hazardous materials. Addresses WHMIS 2015 alignment with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, as well as education and training requirements related to Saskatchewan OH&S regulations. Online Cost: TBA Note: Employers are responsible for providing workers with site and job-specific training and information. Save time and money! Flexible delivery methods include: In the classroom Classroom instruction and evaluation is conducted by Sask Polytech at its four campus locations, as well as by approved training providers throughout the province. Online and hybrid (combination of classroom and online) Online instruction and evaluation is delivered by Sask Polytech (or alternate approved training provider). Exams are administered at Test Centres located in Sask Polytech s four campus cities and at other approved test sites in the province.
