BCRSP Anniversary attendees who are not CSSE members are permitted to remain in the room for the AGM Concurrent Session: Panel Discussion - The Future of the Occupational Health and Safety Profession Global issues, shifting regulatory landscapes, competing professions these are just some of the challenges that face the OHS profession today. Attend this session for a lively panel discussion on the future of the occupational health and safety profession. Panelists will provide their unique global perspectives on where we are going in the short and long-term focusing on both the challenges and the opportunities. Panelists will also share what their organizations are doing to help shape the future. Speakers include: Health and Safety from the Union Perspective Troy Winters, Senior Officer, Health and Safety, Canadian Union of Public Employees Currently working as the Senior Officer, Health and Safety for the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Mr Winters assists local unions and their staff with health and safety related issues and concerns, as well as shaping broader health and safety policy for the union. He also sit on numerous national and provincial committees and working groups, including being a Governor in Council of the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety and the first labour appointee to chair a CSA standard technical committee. Mr Winters holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), Kinesiology and a Master s of Applied Science, Industrial Engineering from Dalhousie University. A Senior Management Perspective on Health and Safety Catherine Roome, President and CEO, BC Safety Authority (BCSA) Since 2011, Catherine has been President & CEO of BC Safety Authority (BCSA), an independent, self-funded organization mandated to oversee the safe installation and operation of technical systems and equipment. In addition to issuing permits, licences and certificates, BCSA works with industry to reduce safety risks through assessment, education and outreach, enforcement, and research. Sustainability and the OHS Profession Dennis Hudson, JD, Director of Professional Affairs at American Society of Safety Engineers As the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Director of Professional Affairs oversees activities relating to governmental affairs, education standards, and programs designed to promote occupational safety and health and OSH professionals. Dennis serves as Secretariat to the International Network of Safety and Health Practitioners Organizations (INSHPO) and staff liaison to the Center for the Safety and Health.
