Define Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH); 2. Describe the most common clinical manifestations of the disease; and. Review long-term complications of PAH. Diagnoses of Presenter: Christopher Mullin, MD, MHS 1. Explore the limitations of echocardiography in diagnosing pulmonary hypertension; 2. Understand the clinical classification of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and how this informs the evaluations leading to the diagnosis of PAH; and. Learn that right-heart catheterization is essential in the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. Pharmacologic Treatment of Presenter: Jennifer Fiebert, PharmD, BCPS, BC-ADM, CGP 1. Review the therapeutic targets and pharmacology for agents used in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH); 2. Recognize adverse effects associated with therapies for PAH;. Discuss administration and special considerations of medications used in the treatment of PAH; and 4. Identify adjunctive medications used for supportive therapy in the treatment of PAH. LUNCH BREAK : Diet and Nutrition Presenter: Charles Mueller, PhD, RD, CDN, CNSC 1. Describe nutritional treatment for acute pulmonary hypertension; 2. Review medical nutrition therapy for conditions that can cause pulmonary hypertension; and. Identify nutritional approaches for the prevention of the primary causes of pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary Rehabilitation Presenter: Aastha Joshi, BS, PT, MS, EP 1. Understand Domains of Wellness specific to the pulmonary hypertension population group (whole approach); 2. Identify the different exercise testing protocols and activity assessment;. Understand how to use the data from the exercise test to establish an appropriate exercise prescription, including appropriate target heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation in healthy and pulmonary hypertension populations; and 4. Understand how to establish exercise parameters, including recommended Frequency, Intensity, Type, and Time (FITT) (Specificity and Sensitivity). :10 pm Tailoring Treatment to the Patient Presenter: Hooman Poor, MD 1. Describe the role of pulmonary vasodilator therapy in pulmonary hypertension; 2. Identify the prognostic markers of disease severity in pulmonary hypertension; and. 4 ELIGIBILITY FOR 1199SEIU MEMBERS CHOOSE Onsite or Live Videocast League and Greater New York Members To be eligible to attend this seminar at no cost, 1199SEIU members must have been a part-time or full-time employee for at least one year and work at least three-fifths of a regular workweek and work for an employer who contributes to the 1199SEIU League Training and Upgrading Fund or the 1199SEIU Greater New York Education Fund. The cost of attendance is deducted from your Continuing Education benefit.
