1 e y n t e s As of March 2, there have been 20 days since our last lost-time injury. News for the team members of Cross Keys Village -The Brethren Home Community 03/09/2018 Pastoral Care continues to pray for you. Our focus the next two weeks will be Human Resources on March 12 and Dining Services on March 19. Showing Compassion through Generosity and Kindness It was your typical September morning in South Central PA: The air was crisp and the trees were starting to show signs of the fall season. Cathy Hertz, LPN on Somerset, was in a car accident on her way to work that changed her life. My injuries were very extensive, especially the fractures to both of my legs. After a 3 1/2 week stay in the hospital and 2 1/2 weeks in a rehab hospital, Cathy is continuing her recovery at home with her husband as her caregiver. Shortly after Cathy s accident, the CKV community did what they do best: they called, visited, sent cards, flowers and messages, and made contributions to the Benevolence Fund in her name. Cathy shared, I cannot express how thankful I am to my Brethren Home "family" for all of the support I received since my accident. I feel very humbled by this love and support that has been shown to me. What is the Benevolence Fund? This fund was established in 1999 as a generous gift by the families of some residents, made in appreciation of the care they received here. The objective of the Benevolence Fund is to provide financial assistance to employees of Cross Keys Village to address personal emergency and immediate financial needs, much like what Cathy and her husband faced during this unexpected and difficult time. How can I help? In the past, we have held fundraisers to support the cause such as our cookie and pretzel grams in which team members and villagers could send a delicious treat as a thank you, a gift, or a timely pick-me-up to a CKV team member. You can support this cause by participating in the benevolence fundraisers. The next fundraiser is scheduled in April. You can also make a gift to the Benevolence Fund through the Foundation office. If you know a co-worker who has recently experienced an immediate financial crisis, please contact Shannon Bentley in Human Resources at x5251 or s.bentley@crosskeysvillage.org. If you would like more information about making a gift to support the Benevolence Fund, please contact Mindy Becker in Foundation at x6496 or m.becker@crosskeysvillage.org.

3 Dear CKV Team Members, I would like to thank all of you, my co-worker family, for all of your thoughts, prayers, hugs and planters after the death of our daughter, Chrissy. I am so blessed to have a loving caring family at work to comfort and support me through this difficult time. Please continue to pray for our family as God brings us to mind. Blessings, Kitty Duckworth VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove Scholarship Opportunity The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Hanover and Spring Grove is excited to share that the annual application process for the Florence dehaven Stick Memorial Scholarship is now underway. The scholarship honors Florence dehaven Stick, Hanover s first visiting nurse. The scholarship fund was established by the VNA in 1982 and funded by a bequest from Dr. Edward W. Stick as a memorial to his wife. The VNA is seeking assistance to spread the word to deserving students living in the areas surrounding Hanover and Spring Grove or in any part of Adams County. Scholarships in the range of $1,000 to $2,000 will be awarded by the VNA to students enrolled in an accredited nursing program or accepted for classes beginning in the fall of 2018 for a career as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, academic performance and extracurricular activities. Scholarships are offered to both graduating high school students and post high school applicants. Completed applications are due back to the VNA by March 16, 2018 and may be obtained at or by contacting the VNA at the numbers listed below. If you have any questions regarding the scholarship or award process, please contact Heather Reynolds at (717) or extension 292. 4 Team Member Spotlight Abigail (Abbie) Britton, Human Resources Coordinator, Human Resources Department About Me: I ve worked here for 10 months and I am currently the HR Coordinator. I love working at CKV TBHC because of the welcoming atmosphere! When I started here in May, I felt like I was welcomed into a big, new family and it has been so incredible. Fun Fact: I really enjoy photography. I have been taking photos since I was little and have even competed in several photography contests. Spring Bazaar at CKV Get ready for Easter, Mother s Day, Graduation and summer vacation at our upcoming Spring Bazaar! This event offers a wide variety of crafts and homemade items and is the perfect place to shop for springtime decorations and gifts. This free public event will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Nicarry Meetinghouse. Vendors will include a mix of CKV residents, team members, and others from the local community. There will be a special table filled with resident made and donated craft items as well as refreshments. All proceeds from this table will support Community Life in Brookside, Personal Care, and Wellbrook Adult Day Services departments. This year, some vendors will be offering a sneak preview for our team members. Stop by on Friday, March 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Nicarry and shop early. Proceeds from the table vendor fee benefit the Good Samaritan Fund which supports Cross Keys Village residents who have outlived their financial resources. Compliance Line at The Compliance Line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for callers to report compliance-related issues. Concerns that are reported to the Compliance Line are taken seriously. All calls are confidential and you may call anonymously if you so choose. You can make calls to the Compliance Line without fear of reprisal, retaliation, or punishment for your actions. Anyone, including a supervisor who retaliates against a team member for contacting the Compliance Line or for reporting a compliance issue in any other manner, will be disciplined.
