3 Welcome to the 22nd Annual AONP Conference Erin Trippy, AONP President Antonia Pratt-Reid, AONP President-Elect Welcome to the 22nd Annual Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners (AONP) Conference. The 2016 Conference continues the tradition of excellence by providing outstanding continuing education with a line-up of fantastic lectures, presented by world class speakers. An annual favorite is our pre-conference workshops that fulfill the skill needs of both students and practicing NPs who wish to tweak their suturing, radiology, diabetes and cardiology / lipid testing skills. We have a fantastic conference in store, with lectures that offer something for everyone. We understand the constraints of work, time and life. We appreciate your choice to spend your time, gain additional expertise and continue your educational journey with us. We added new breakout sessions for acute care and family practice providers to the conference this year. We hope you will enjoy the Thursday morning breakout sessions that address the interests of acute care and family practice specialties. We are excited you are joining us! 03 AONP
4 Kristopher Avant, D.O. Dr. Kristopher Avant, an Oklahoma native and local graduate from Yukon High School, received his Bachelor s of Science degree at the University of Oklahoma and obtained his medical degree from Oklahoma State University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Avant completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Bone & Joint Hospital at St. Anthony in Oklahoma City and completed a Hand & Upper Extremity Fellowship in Tampa, Florida, at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. While in Tampa, Dr. Avant had the opportunity to work extensively at the Shriner s Hospital for children. In addition to practicing a comprehensive range of general orthopaedics including trauma, joint replacement, and sports medicine, Dr. Avant specializes in Hand, Wrist, Elbow, Shoulder, and Microvascular Surgery. Misty Chaney, APRN-CNP Ms. Chaney is Board Certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. In 2004, she graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with her Masters of Science in Nursing. She completed her Post Masters certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Massachusetts Boston in Since 2004 she has practiced as a Nurse Practitioner in Internal Medicine and Urgent care, and joined DDSI in She has also served as an adjunct clinical instructor for other Nurse Practitioners and nursing programs. 04 AONP
5 Blake Christensen, D.O. Dr. Blake D. Christensen is a Pain Management Specialist in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He graduated with honors from Oklahoma College Of Osteopathic Medicine And Surgery in Having more than 7 years of diverse experiences, especially in pain management, anesthesiology, Dr. Blake D. Christensen affiliates with many hospitals including Oklahoma Spine Hospital, Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, Inc, and cooperates with other doctors and specialists in many medical groups. Lynn Cofer-Chase, MSN, RN, CLS, FNLA, FPCNA, FAHA Mrs. Cofer-Chase is board certified as a Clinical Lipid Specialist and is Manager of Clinical Education for Cleveland HeartLab, Inc. She was Clinical Director of the Midwest Heart Lipid Clinic/Heart Disease Prevention Center, named a model of excellence by the National Cholesterol Education Program in Lynn is currently President of the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology. Other honors include being named a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the National Lipid Association, and the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association. She has also served as Course Director and faculty for numerous lipid management and cardiometabolic risk reduction courses. Additionally, Lynn co-authored the chapter Practical Management of Dyslipidemia in Primary Management of Heart Disease by George Taylor. Ms. Cofer-Chase has received honoraria related to speaker s bureau and/or consultant activities for Amgen, Sanofi, The American Egg Board, and the Foundation of the National Lipid Association. 05 AONP
6 Emily Friedman, M.D. Dr. Friedman is a board certified neurosurgeon at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Friedman participated in a general neurosurgical residency followed by a followship in spinal neurosurgery. She was the first female neurorsurgery resident to graduate from Columbia University. Dr. Friedman has received national awards for clinical and basic science research from the Congress of Neurological Surgery and the American Association of Neurological Surgery. She was also the recipient of the NIH clinical investigator award. Steven R. Hardage, M.D. Dr. Hardage is a primary care sports medicine physician for Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedic Center. He serves as team physician for Rogers State University, Northeastern State University, Claremore High School, and other area high schools. 06 AONP
7 Johnny Hickson, M.D. Born and raised here in Oklahoma City, Dr. Hickson attended Putnam City High school, Southern Nazarene University. and the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After his training with the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center Department of Urology residency program, he has moved back home to join Urology Associates. In addition to his busy practice at our Oklahoma City location, Dr. Hickson maintains a bi-weekly clinic in Weatherford. He specializes in Men s Health and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Katherine Hoebelheinrich, MS, APRN Ms. Hoebelheinrich is the Diabetes Case Manager at the Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department and an adjunct faculty member at Clarkson College in Omaha where she lectures to NP students on diabetes management. Kathy is a past two-term Secretary of Nebraska Nurse Practitioners (NNP) Executive Board. She lead the statutory Scope of Practice Credentialing Review that preceded NNP s successful legislative initiative for full practice authority. 07 AONP
8 Shannon Reedy Idzik, DNP, CRNP, FAANP Dr. Idzik is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at University of Maryland School of Nursing. She previously served as the program director for the Adult Gero NP program. She has worked as a nurse practitioner in endocrinology, bariatric surgery, primary care where she managed large panels of patients with diabetes. She currently practices as a nurse practitioner in the University of Maryland Medical Center Emergency Dept and Preop center where she also manages preoperative and emergency care of patients with diabetes. Jeannie King, M.D., FAAN Dr. King is a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology for OU Health Science Center College of Medicine. She serves as Medical Director of OU Neurology Residents Clinic, supervising residents in outpatient management of general neurology patients. She is a practicing Neurologist, specializing in epilepsy. 08 AONP
9 Hillary Kneale M.D. Dr. Kneale received her bachelor s degree from Vanderbilt University before earning her medical degree at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She complete her neurology residency at Michigan State University/Sparrow Health System, followed by her neurocritical care fellowship at University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kneale is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society, along with the American Academy of Neurology, American Osteopathic Association, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Kneale works with our Neurology and Stroke team. Anthony Lyssy, D.O. To ensure his patients receive top-notch services and treatment, Doctor Anthony Lyssy works hard to stay up to date with new practices and methods of exercise and lifestyle modification through processes involving diet, stress management, and recovery. Dr. Lyssy joined Diamond Physicians when he noticed the level of care, compassion, and amount of time the team offered to their clients. He works hard to communicate with his patients effectively and explains how certain illnesses and diseases can be prevented through a healthy and active lifestyle. Prior to his career as a board certified family physician, Dr. Lyssy attended The University of Austin where he graduated with his Bachelor s degree with honors. Following his undergraduate coursework, he enrolled in The University of North Texas Health Science Center where he earned his medical degree. Dr. Lyssy advanced his education and gained a Board Certification in Family Medicine. Since then, Dr. Lyssy has devoted his life to helping others achieve the lives they have always wanted. 09 AONP
10 Leah Melton, MSN, APRN, C-NP, BC-ADM Ms. Melton is an APRN with Central Oklahoma Diabetes Center. She manages DM patients include interventions of DSME, change in treatment with oral medications, transition to basal insulin, transition or addition of mealtime insulins, and transition to insulin pumps. In 2012, Ms. Melton practiced as an APRN within an Endocrinology office managing all DM referrals Lubna Mirza, M.D. Dr. Mirza has worked for Norman Regional hospital since 2010 treating Diabetes, Thyroid and other Endocrine diseases. Dr. Mirza has been published in peer reviewed medical journals and teaches family medical residents at Comanche Memorial hospital in Lawton, Ok. Dr. Mirza Wrote a book titled Everything you need to know about Diabetes in the Urdu language to help deliver up to date information about diabetes to minority groups in the United States. 10 AONP
11 Lana Nelson, DO, FACOS Dr. Nelson is a general and bariatric surgeon from Norman, Oklahoma with 12 years experience in bariatric surgery. She also serves as Director of the Bariatric Service Program at Norman Regional Hospital. Dr. Nelson is a national speaker and has multiple national publications in the field of bariatric surgery. Antonia Pratt-Reid, MSN, APRN-CNP Ms. Pratt-Reid began her career in healthcare in As a nurse she spent several years in both Cardiopulmonary care and ICU. In 2001 she opened her first independently owned nurse practitioner clinic in Oklahoma. She has worked Emergency and Urgent Care for over 15 years. She has been an adjunct professor and enjoys mentoring students at all levels of education. 11 AONP
12 Gina Pritchard, MSN, RN, CNS, ACNP As the primary Nurse Practitioner for the Prevent Clinic, Gina Pritchard operates with a sense of constant process improvement to improve the quality of the lives and health of per prevent clients. Gina is impassioned to support others to live their most beneficial lives. Heart attacks and strokes are not an inevitable part of life and Gina Pritchard is experienced in helping families and individuals in avoiding and eliminating their devastating effects. Her vision for others to have good health so they are able to participate in the important aspects of everyday life is what fuels her drive. Gina started her nursing career at Baylor University Medical Center as a Clinical Nurse and then went on to found and fun Gina Lou Pritchard ACNP, PLLC where she honed and perfected her skills as a heart attack and stroke prevention expert. Certified in Bale/Doneen method, Gina travels and speaks as an advocate for early detection and prevention of heart disease, educating people everywhere on the importance of heart health. James Rooks, M.D. Dr. Rooks teaches internal medicine residents about critical care. He is the Coordinator of critical care education for OU-Tulsa and is also an Associate clinical professor of medicine. 12 AONP
13 Margaret Rosales, APRN Ms. Rosales is an ICU Hospitalist. She is responsible for rounding on a list of patients in the ICU. She completes a SOAP note on those patients daily. Ms. Rosales is also responsible for performing consultations on patients located in the ED or Acute Medical floor that are deteriorating or meet ICU admission/transfer. She performs procedures such as Intubations, central lines, and arterial lines. Elise Schrop, M.D. Dr. Schrop is a practicing physician in general obstetrics and gynecology at INTEGRIS Canadian Valley Women s Clinic. As a resident in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Schrop trained under several sub-specialists in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. She spent time in their offices caring for women with incontinence and prolapse. In addition, she spent 5 weeks training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to gain additional knowledge specifically in this area of medicine. Educating providers and patients about this topic is one of Dr. Schrop s passions, as many patients and providers alike are often uncomfortable talking about it. 13 AONP
14 Terri Suresh-DeNeui, RN, MSN, ACNP, DNPS Speaker, Author, and Board Certified Nurse Practitioner Terri Suresh-DeNeui, has extensive training in her field. She earned her B.A in Nursing from Texas Women s University and her Master s degree in Nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington and is currently working on her Doctorate degree. She has extended her education to include certifications in Anti-Aging and Wellness Medicine and Advanced Hormone Replacement. Terri currently owns 2 Nurse Practitioner led medical clinics in the DFW area, with a focus on advanced endocrinology, including menopausal and andropausal hormone therapies. Her passion for speaking and educating has earned her invitations to write columns, book chapters, and speak in a variety of settings, including television, radio, and seminars and conferences across the country. Wendy L. Wright, MS, RN, APRN, FNP, FAANP, FAAN Ms. Wright is a 1992 graduate of the Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed a family nurse practitioner post-master s program in She is an adult and family nurse practitioner and the owner of two NP-owned and operated clinics within New Hampshire. In addition, she is the Owner of Partners in Healthcare Education, a medical education company. She is the Past President of NPACE and the Senior lecturer for Fitzgerald Health Education Associates. She was chosen by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as the 1999 recipient of the New Hampshire State Excellence Award, received the 2009 NH Nurse Practitioner of the Year, the 2014 Top 5 Women in New Hampshire Business Award, and in 2005, she was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She presents nationally to different audiences and has been a speaker at over 1000 conferences in 46 states. Wendy is also an Adjunct faculty member at the University of Wyoming - Graduate Nursing Program and in the Simmons College DNP program in Boston. 14 AONP
