3 HSN Needs Volunteers! Do you know someone with a few hours to spare each week? Or is looking for a way to have a meaningful impact on their community? Send them our way! HSN is looking for volunteers at the Ramsey Lake Health Centre and Sudbury Outpatient Centre. This is the perfect opportunity to stay active, stay involved, meet new people and make an impact. Call HSN Volunteer Services for more information on how to lend a helping hand to health care! ext. 3 Meet Donna Why does she volunteer? I had always wanted to help out at the hospital. I m retired now and love the interaction with others. How long has she been a volunteer? I ve been a volunteer for almost a year, I started last December and have volunteered in five different departments. Why should others volunteer? Volunteering gives me personal fulfilment it s very rewarding. There s something for everyone, whether someone wants to help out in an office or walk people to where they need to go. I spend time in the pool with kids, which is something I never imagined I d be doing. There s a lot to offer. Anything to add? Wear comfortable shoes! National Recognition: EMS Exemplary Service Medal Presented to Corey Petrie Congratulations to one of our own Corey Petrie who was presented with the Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal by Major General Richard Rohmer recognizing 20 years of exemplary service. Since 1994, as part of the Canadian Honours Programme, the Governor General annually selects Canadian EMS professionals to receive an Exemplary Service Medal for 20 years of exemplary service and a bar for each 30 years and 40 years of exemplary service. This award recognizes professionals in the provision of prehospital emergency medical services to the public, who have performed their duties in an exemplary manner, characterized by the highest standards of good conduct, industry and efficiency. At least 10 of these years must have been in the provision of prehospital emergency medical services to the public which involves potential risk to the individual. Corey is an active paramedic at the street level and has been for over 21 years and continues in his role as Paramedic Practice Coordinator for over 5 years in our North Bay office. He ensures efficient, effective and timely delivery of continuing medical education and continuous quality improvement for paramedics in the Nipissing and Parry Sound district. CONGRATULATIONS COREY!
4 Kudos! HSN congratulates Innocencia Nyarambi, a radiation therapist at the Northeast Cancer Centre. She obtained her Master s Degree in Radiotherapy and Oncology from Sheffield University, U.K. Kudos to Carol Cameletti from the Mental Health and Addictions Program. She has completed her Masters Degree through Lakehead University, specializing in Gerontology. Carol works with our Seniors Mental Health Team. It takes a strong person to complete a graduate degree while continuing to work full time. Kudos to Carol! Spreading Red for an Important Cause! Staff in the ultrasound department have decided to participate in the "Bundle up in Red" campaign from the Reseau Access Network. During the last month, breaks and lunches have been filled with the clickity clack of knitting needles and crochet hooks busily creating beautiful red scarfs. The scarfs have information cards attached to them that will explain the ongoing issues related to HIV/AIDS locally. You may have seen them as you`re travelling throughout the City. They are free for people to take and wear, especially helpful for homeless who would benefit from a warm scarf this winter. To date they have knitted 20 scarfs. Way to make a difference in our community and helping to spread awareness of an important health issue!

It is satisfying to help a worker and/or manager problem solve in order to improve the worker s comfort and quality of work life.
