Comfortable with the one-on-one approach required to assist the patient Birthing-Post Partum Unit Support Maternal Child Program team who are caring for women in prenatal period, newborn infants and families on the Birthing and Post Partum Units. Monday - Sunday 8:00pm 10:00pm Able to work with minimum or no supervision Cardiac Pre-op Clinic Cardiac Arrhythmia / Cardiac Heart Function Clinic Cardiac Short Stay To support and assist patients by directing them through a series of scheduled appointments. To act as liaison between patient, relatives and staff To assist clinic s personnel with various duties in order to allow the nursing staff to dedicate more time to patient care. To assist Cardiac Short Stay Unit by performing duties that assists staff in providing patient centered care. Wednesday: 6:30am 10:30am 10:30am 2:30pm 4 hrs twice/week; flexible hours mutually agreed upon 6:30am 10:30 am or 10:30 2:30pm Introduce yourself to the patients in the waiting area and inform them of the assistance you will be providing Has undergone a cardiac procedure, definite asset Pleasant telephone manners, able to exercise patience while talking to patients. Have a friendly and outgoing personality able to adapt to each patient as required. Comfortable with the one-on-one approach required to assist the patient 1
2 Cardiovascular Surgery Unit To assist in discharge planning for the postoperative patients and to assist patients and families attending the discharge class. Volunteers will also help with set up of class. according to schedule set by department Has undergone a cardiac procedure, definite asset Community Connections in MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, To alleviate no shows and to confirm appointment date/time with the patient, advise where to go on arrival, where to park and provide instructions to patient on preparation for examination. Explain length of time, which in turn will alleviate patient s apprehension. 4:00pm - 6:00pm Saturday Sunday flexible shifts Good command of the English language (oral & written), multilingual skills helpful. Excellent judgment and diplomacy skills; ability to pay great attention to detail Concierge This position is to welcome and be an ambassador of first impressions of Southlake for patients and visitors, to greet and provide directional assistance to the specific area(s) of the hospital and Medical Arts building (MAB). Saturday Sunday 2:00pm 6:00pm Outgoing and comfortable speaking with the public, excellent directional abilities Have knowledge about hospital buildings and surrounding i.e.; Hotels, Stores, Restaurants etc. Able to stand for extended periods of time Courtesy Diagnostic Imaging Greeter (Mammogram or Ultrasound) To greet and provide supportive directional assistance to outpatients, family members and visitors looking for specific areas of the hospital and assist patients with registration. Ensure visitor maintain hand hygiene. To welcome/greet all visitors to the Diagnostic Imaging area. To offer support and assistance in responding to patients/visitors inquiries and concerns. 8:30am - 11:30am Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Outgoing and comfortable speaking with the public, excellent directional abilities Able to stand for long periods of time. Diagnostic Imaging CT To welcome/greet all visitors to the Diagnostic Imaging CT area. To offer support and assistance in responding to patients/visitors inquiries and concerns. 11:00am 2:00pm 2
3 Emergency Room Volunteers in ER provide non-medical care and support to staff, patients and their family members Monday Sunday 9:00am - 12:30pm 12:30pm-4:00pm 4:00pm-7:00pm 7:00pm-10:00pm Able to stand and walk for long periods of time Comfortable supporting patients and families in difficult situations Eye Institute To provide caring and empathetic support to patients being treated at The Eye Institute. Tuesday - Thursdays 8:00am 11:30am or 11:30am- 3:00pm Able to stand/walk for long periods of time Able to work with minimum or no supervision Fracture Clinic To assist in ensuring smooth patient flow through the Fracture Clinic, this has high patient volumes. ; 7:30 am-1:00 pm or 1:00-5:00 pm Able to stand and/or walk for up to 4 hours Reassure and inform families who are waiting for patients Hand/Shoulder Clinic To support and assist patients arriving at the Hand Clinic acting as a liaison between staff and patients to ensure attention to patients and visitors and support staff in their effort to maintain a smooth-running clinic. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday; 7:30am - 12:30pm Thursday 9:00am- 12:00pm or 1:00pm - 3:30pm Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize; accuracy and attention to detail Able to stand and walk for long periods of time HELP Program HELP is a delirium prevention program for patients over the age of 75. It is designed to prevent delirium and functional decline and improve the overall hospital experience for at-risk older patients ; 8:00am-11:00am 11:00am-2:00pm 4:00pm-7:00pm Six hours in class HELP training, followed up by competency skills assessment on the unit. Warm, helpful and courteous a people person ICU-CVICU To escort visitors into the unit and to act as an intermediary between visitors and unit staff. Monday to Sunday 8:00a.m.-12:00pm 12:00pm - 4:00pm 4:00pm - 7:00pm 7:00pm -10:00pm Comfortable with a slower paced environment dealing with critical situations. Comfortable offering support to those in a difficult situation Outgoing and comfortable speaking with the public. Mammography To assist the Diagnostic Imaging Department in providing excellent customer service to patients, their families and staff. 12:30pm 3:30pm 3
4 Meal Time Assistant To assist patients with feeding and enhance mealtime enjoyment while at Southlake. Volunteers will function as a member of the interprofessional team and will perform a variety of duties to meet the needs of the patients and staff. 8:00am-10:00am 11:30am-1:30pm 4:30pm-6:30pm Completion of training session provided by the speech-language pathologist Medical Discharge Callers Mental Health Recreation To support the Medicine Team by contacting and administering a hour post discharge follow-up phone call to discharged medicine patients. This phone call helps to decrease readmissions, make sure follow up care is arranged and to get information about the quality and safety of the patient s admission. To assist staff and patients with a variety of tasks, as well as, encourage patients to participate in recreational activities to the level that is possible to benefit their social, physical, and emotional needs during their admission on the Inpatient Mental Health unit. 3 hour shifts (flexible) Tuesday and Friday 11:00am 2:00pm Perform his/her duties with accuracy and pay great attention to detail. Have the desire and the ability to respond in a friendly and positive manner to patients questions. 18 years old or older Have a, positive and approachable personality, able to adapt to each patient as required Have a good understanding of the importance of maintaining healthy boundaries Strong communication skills MCC-RNU-TCU To perform a variety of duties to meet the needs of the patients and staff which in turn assist a multi-disciplinary team. 9:00 am 12:00 pm 12:30 pm 3.30 pm Comfortable with transporting patients from and rooms to the Gym or OT by walking with them or pushing their wheelchairs. MSK To support busy staff on this patient unit by offering a high level of personalized customer service and attention to patients, family and visitors. To enhance the quality of the time spent in the hospital environment. 9:00am - 12:30pm Caring, community minded individual interested in assisting the hospital and medical staff to provide our patients/families/visitors with rewarding and comfortable hospital experiences. Paediatrics / Cuddle Program To help make the hospital stay more pleasant, welcoming and to provide assistance to parents by offering to relieve them while they take a break or by spending time listening and offering support, as needed. Provide support to Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit staff with cuddling babies as required. 11:00am 2:00pm 18 years old or older Able to relate well to children and adults; good listener; able to work independently. Good organizational and public relations skills. 4
5 Palliative Care 8:00-12 noon or 12 noon - 4:00 pm Must have Pal Care Certificate For more info: Preoperative To provide support to families and patients within the Surgical areas and, to the clinical staff. Monday Friday 3:30pm to 6:30pm Able to cope with the apprehensive and anxious patient and the ability to be a good listener. Pool To assist patients with prescribed pool exercises in the Whipper Watson rehabilitation pool. 2:00pm-4:30pm. 6:00pm-8:30pm.; Tuesday - Thursday 12:30pm-2:30pm; Wednesday and Friday 12:30pm- 2:30pm; Saturday 9:00a.m.-12:00pm 18 years old or older with First Aid and CPR or 16 years old with NLS Be comfortable in the heated salt water pool with outgoing and sunny disposition RNU Satellite Gym This unit has 30 patients consisting of: 6 acute neurological patients; 14 neurological rehabilitation patients and 10 general rehabilitation patients. These patients receive daily occupational and/or physiotherapy and must be medically stable to tolerate a minimum of 60 minutes of therapy daily. Monday Friday Surgical Admissions To assist with maintaining a communication link with patients and their family members, same day admittance. To provide a consumer-friendly environment by reducing anxiety for both patients and families. : Able to assist with problem-solving Able to take direction well and have excellent communication skills Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Surgery Pre-Op To welcome patients to Pre-operative clinics and give directions. Assist with maintaining a communication link between patients, family members and nursing staff. 9:00am 1:00pm Able to assist with problem-solving Able to cope with the apprehensive and anxious patient and the ability to be a good listener. Able to take direction well and have excellent communication skills. 5
6 Non Patient Areas Financial Services Accounting To assist Financial Services compliance and control for cash balancing process. 2 hour shifts Team player able to work with minimum supervision Bookkeeping and financial background are definite assets DI Registration To support DI Program Clerical Support staff with the folding, stuffing and bundling of physician s reports, as well as the subsequent delivery and distribution of those reports to the appropriate location (e.g. SRHC physician mailboxes, mailroom for external mail out, etc.) Excellent filing skills; manual dexterity required Reliable; available on a regular basis; team player Physically capable of lifting, bending, standing and sitting for a 3 hour Gift Shop To provide excellent customer service to all visitors, patients, and staff of SRHC through the sale of items in the gift shop. Monday - Sunday 4 hour shifts Demonstrated high level of customer service and interpersonal skills Isolation Cart Monitor Lab (Histology, Cytoloy) Responsible for stocking all the isolation carts in all departments. To assist pathology department by performing duties e.g.; filing slides & blocks; Redistribution of these tasks to volunteers will free up valuable time of the lab staff to improve turnaround time for other procedures. Sunday- Thursday 2 hour shift (flexible) 12:00pm- 4:00pm Able to take direction well and have excellent communication skills. Proven dexterity to handle delicate instruments & tools with a firm hand and delicate touch. Detail oriented, pays great attention to accuracy; excellent filing, organizational and general office skills Research Travelling Road Show To provide research support to Southlake s current research initiatives To provide and create a friendly introduction to Southlake Regional Health Centre to children in Grade 1 only, by visiting their schools and providing a variety of 'hands on' experiences to familiarize them with hospital procedures. Dependent on requirements of the Research project One day a week 1.5 hours Computer experience including Microsoft Office, Positive can do attitude and willingness to learn Detail oriented and organizational skills Comfortable speaking in front of groups particularly children with the ability to use age appropriate language. 6
7 Stronach Regional Cancer Centre Courtesy Radiation Department & Outpatient Clinic Computer Kiosk Create a powerfully positive first impression by greeting and assisting patients and visitors with way finding as well as managing the Canadian Cancer Society refreshment Cart. Provide empathetic support by chatting with patients and visitors while they are waiting for treatment. Assist with change room preparation and patient flow. Support patients to use the computer kiosks to register and complete their symptom assessment. 12:00pm 4:00pm Enjoy people contact, pleasant, courteous personality. Ability to stand/walk for 4 hours Ability to learn quickly with excellent wayfinding/directional skills Friendly, pleasant, compassionate and understanding. Good command of the English language (oral & written), multilingual skills helpful. Sensitive to issues facing cancer patients. Comfortable addressing patients concerns about using technology Ability to teach/coach people. Patient &Family Resource Centre Cancer Education Series Support the information needs of the patients, families and caregivers providing reliable cancer information. Volunteers maintain the collection of cancer resources. Assist the Regional Cancer Program in planning, executing, and evaluating 7 educational lectures per year. 9:00am 1:00pm 1:00pm 4:00pm 4 hours per week (flexible times) and 1 Tuesday evening per month A background in health care, teaching or library services is preferred Previous experience planning educational lectures/conferences or any type of special event recommended Southlake Village Residential Care Friendly Visiting Program Assistant To act as a friendly visitor to residents via a one to one approach thus improving their quality of life. Under the direction of Life Enrichment staff, assisting the resident with participation in a variety of recreational activities. Monday to Sunday 1:00pm 4:00 pm Monday to Sunday 9:30am 12:00pm 1:00pm 4:00pm 5:30pm 8:30pm Have a friendly, outgoing personality with the ability to adapt to each resident s visiting needs.
