1 Ambulatory Care Services of the Montreal Children s Hospital our Close-up on GLEN site The Montreal Children s Hospital at the Glen site is a modern healthcare facility. Designed with the input of our staff, the Ambulatory Care Department and Pediatric Day Hospital are efficient spaces that support today s best practices and make providing care to our patients and their families easier.

2 Vision for the Day Hospital at the MCH For our patients and their loved ones The pediatric day hospital, which includes the Complex Care Services (CCS) and Clinical Investigation unit (CIU) and dialysis Unit share space on the rez-de-chaussée level of Block B. This area is designed to encourage interaction between health professionals; provide centralized nursing care; consolidate waiting areas to promote better patient flow. The dialysis unit has light-filled treatment areas with beautiful views. Block D Cancer Centre Our young patients often have to spend the whole day at the hospital receiving treatment. To help make this experience as pleasant as possible, design teams have created welcoming spaces for everyone: Shared airy and open waiting and play areas for better flow and more pleasant patient experience Treatment bays located around caregiver stations to reassure patients and families as well as to encourage feelings of familiarity and comfort Exam rooms and treatment stations are clustered separately to minimize traffic around treatment stations exam rooms treatment bays isolation treatment bays Block C Shriners Block A Block E Complex Care Services (CCS) Clinical Investigation unit (CIU) Dialysis Unit (Block B, Level RDC) Near and around the Day Hospital and Dialysis Unit Efficient co-locations ensure smooth functionality; the Day Hospital is: Across the atrium from the MCH Ambulatory Clinics located in Block A Immediately above the MCH Emergency Department Immediately below the Test Centre Consultation s Private Treatment Station Pediatric Day Hospital, Block B, RC Pneumatic Tube Station Team Kitchen Alcove Reception & s Caregiver Stations

4 Vision for Pediatric Ambulatory Care Near and around the Ambulatory Clinics The design of the ambulatory clinics puts great emphasis on a positive patient experience. Besides being welcoming to children and their families, clinical spaces are uniform, allowing for a wide range of uses and one-stop care. The design also encourages inter-disciplinary collaboration. 5 For our staff Ambulatory Care teams are all in the same place, facilitating interprofessional exchanges. Separate hallways, for staff only ( back-of-house ), create more efficient work flow and better collaboration between professionals. This area is accessible from various points throughout the department. Uniformly designed exam rooms maximize efficiency. Well-equipped triage rooms allow for faster case assessments, shorter wait times and better work flow.
