Issue To provide an update report to the Board of Trustees on the activities of the Young Professionals Community Committee. 2. Risk The Young Professionals Community Committee was created in It reports to the Communities Resourcing Committee, which in turn reports to the Knowledge Services Board. 2 YPCC Update to Board of Trustees - A summary of our work over the past 18 months Young Professionals Community Committee October 2017 Purpose and who we are The YPCC is unique team within the IETs structure Global community responsible to ensure all YPs (students/apprentices and recent career entry) have their voice listened to and issues/concerns acted upon. Global team reflects the global IET membership Everyone delivers; the YPCC has six workstreams, plus three student workstreams Content & consumption TPNs Volunteering Equality and diversity Future values Global challenge 1

3 Young Professionals Community Committee What makes us different? A committee of Young Professionals, dedicated to supporting Young Professionals The YPCC is unique - we innovate, developing new and engaging events and activities which strengthen the value of IET membership for YPs. Committee members deliver, not advise. Present Around the World Flagship competition focusing on soft-skills 74 competitions in 2015, 96 in 2016, xxx in 2017 Biggest regional final in PATW history this year EMEA region had 20 participants! New On Campus groups held university rounds Introduction of new materials for 2017/2018 session following review Active drive by YPCC to recruit PATW participants as IET members 2

4 Global Challenge Team based engineering problem solving competition Ran in collaboration with RedR Humanitarian organisation Entries: 2014/ from 7 countries 2016/ from 12 countries Peer voting on 4 finalist videos on Engineering Communities Judging day held on 18th August at Savoy Place High quality entries and one clear winner International Lifeskills Train the trainer, YPs delivering courses outside the UK Original pilot Australia LNs delivered 10 lifeskills courses in 2016 and 6 courses so far in 2017 Singapore LN now delivering lifeskills courses - 2 run so far attracting 76 delegates Hong Kong, Malaysia & Mauritius LNs are set to deliver lifeskills in early 2018 Southern California, Brunei, Auckland and South Island LNs have all expressed interest for 2018 Lifeskills in Singapore - August

5 TechStyle: World of Wearables YP owned lecture, delivered by Young Professionals 22nd November 2017 at Savoy Place - all welcome Speakers - Marija Butkovic of Women of Wearables and Francesca Rosella of CuteCircuit Interactive exhibition, talks, buffet & networking with the speakers Social media competition to win a pair of Snapchat glasses on #ilovewearabletech Designed promotional materials to internationalise the event by encouraging LNs to livestream Come along! events.theiet.org/techstyle/ Social media campaign to win wearable tech On Campus Growth More flexible way for students to get involved with the IET There are now 76 On Campus groups around the world First On Campus Group of the Year award was won by PSB Academy group from Singapore 5 regional On Campus volunteers on the YPCC to advise on initiatives to increase engagement with student volunteers Compiling a compendium of event ideas collected from On Campus groups around the world India - ~40 student groups in India set to transition to official On Campus groups in early 2018 On Campus Group of the Year 4

6 YPCC members Additional activities delivered by YPCC committee members Delivered the first AF Harvey Lecture outside the UK organised by Singapore YPS led by a YPCC member Advised IET website redesign through consultation group Presented at the Alumni Diamond Scholars Celebration event Advised marketing agency in IET rebrand consultation group Leading recruitment of new student and YP members at regional PATW finals AF Harvey Lecture in Singapore YPCC Showcase Designed to engage and inform LNs with updates from us and their region 5

Activities in the pipeline Looking at a new student bitesize design challenge competition Organising the second Young Professionals CVC summer 2018 New plans implemented for improved PATW in 2017/2018 session Exploring opportunities to assist YP innovators Developing a strategy to strengthen YP Sections around the world Support How the Board of Trustees can help the YPCC achieve it s goals Please drop in to YP Sections or On Campus groups if you re in the area. They really value it! Contact us at anytime - we are always open to discuss ideas Continued BoT representation on YPCC necessary for continued alignment with IET strategy, for YPCC achievement to be visible to the BoT, and it further benefits the YPCC by having an experienced volunteer to guide where required. Request for YPCC Chair to attend one BoT dinner per year 6
