2 The Essex Business Awards have been established for 20 years and are a local platform for celebrating the very best business successes in the area. The aim of the awards it to raise company awareness, increase networking opportunities and improve company image and confidence. The awards are fundamental in developing a healthy, prosperous and substantial local economy, making it a desirable area to work and live. These awards will recognise the efforts of local companies who have one thing in common dedication to achieve excellence! Welcome Businesses have the opportunity to nominate themselves for each of the categories either by post or via the website at The awards are free to enter and becoming a finalist means you will receive a visit from the judge of your category, free publicity in our publications and two complimentary tickets to attend the black tie presentation dinner and dance. A category judge will then visit the finalists and those selected as finalists will receive two complimentary tickets to attend our black tie presentation dinner and dance where the winners will be announced. The evening will include a drinks reception, three course dinner including table wine, an awards presentation ceremony followed by a disco. Further tickets can be purchased for 75+vat.

3 Award Categories New Company Companies who have started trading in the last 0-3 years with 1-10 employees, how they started, growth rate, long term plans and company strategy, companies showing significant progress and evidence of success. Small Business of the Year This award is open to small businesses including sole traders who employ fewer than 11 people and have a turnover of less than 1 million. We are looking for companies who can demonstrate a track record of sound financial performance and growth together with investment for the future. Excellent Customer Service This award is for companies demonstrating the highest standard of customer care and service by adopting a positive and focused approach to meet their customer needs. Business to Business This award is for companies demonstrating as part of their business to business strategy a successful track record of adding value to their customers business through an understanding of partnership, responsiveness and their customers own business drivers. Growing Business This award is for companies who have been trading for a minimum of 3 years and who can show high growth revenue and profit over the last 12 months. Best Use Of Social Media This category is suitable for businesses that utilise social media platforms to market and grow their organisation. Excellence in Marketing This award is designed to recognise the development and implementation of successful marketing which has moved the business forward. It could be for an overall marketing strategy or for a specific successful campaign. Community Charity & Community Private These 2 awards are open for companies who can show that they have actively supported or made a contribution to the local community over the last 12 months, from fund raising, mentoring, donating equipment etc. Young Entrepreneur of the Year This award is for a young business person (18-35 years) who has demonstrated creativity and vision in their business. We are looking for someone who is a calculated risk taker, an innovator and someone who is already proving profitable. Apprentice of the Year This award is for an outstanding apprentice, nominated by their employer, in their final year who has shown commitment to their own personal development and progression on a recognised learning scheme. Business Woman of the Year & Business Man of the Year These 2 awards are for individuals in business who have made a positive and significant contribution to their company/organisation. You can nominate yourself or be nominated by another person. All finalists will be invited to attend an interview for a decision to be made on the winner.

6 Traditionally it is our category sponsors that form our panel of judges who carry out the field visits to their chosen finalists, have the prestigious task of selecting the winner of their category and presenting the award at the black tie presentation evening. 8 For these awards we created a promotional schedule that will expose you to an extremely large and targeted business audience as well as the general public over a 3 month period. We will launch the awards with double page spread Meet the Sponsors in one of our Newsquest titles followed by a double page spread Meet the Judges. As well as in-paper publicity the awards will also be promoted on the business awards website www. essexbusiness awards.co.uk with a hyperlink to your own website. The business awards have a dedicated Facebook and Twitter account where the awards will be promoted.
