2 BRDG Park (Bio Research and Development Growth Park at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center) BRDG Park is home to St. Louis Community College s Center for Plant and Life Sciences (CPLS), as well as, several companies which are gaining a foothold in the areas of bio-research development. The CPLS is a community college Center of Excellence and is an umbrella organization that supports the four divisions of Life Science in which the college offers Associate of Applied Science degrees: Biotechnology, Horticulture, Chemical Technology, and Clinical Laboratory. 4 Chasing the Dream One-Day Workshops (In-House) Workshops are Free, but we are limited to 20 schools per year and 20 students per school. Slots fill quickly! We offer up to $300 in transportation assistance. Any cost above $300 will be incurred by the School District. 5 Life Science Summer Camps Summer Camps are Free View Flyer We offer 2 summer camps, one for middle and one for high school students. For 2013 summer camp dates, contact: Dr. Kasey Sindel, Education Specialist ksindel1@stlcc.edu Summer Camp Activities include Gel Electrophoresis Chromatography Streaking for Isolation Bacterial growth Microscope work Lab Safety GMO Analysis, and much more. 6 The Bio-Bench A Workshop for Middle and High School Teachers (funded by the National Science Foundation) The Bio-Bench teacher Workshop enables teachers to creatively facilitate biotechnology in their own classroom through an innovative approach to professional development. Preparing teachers as we would scientists gives them an opportunity to participate in reallife learning followed by $500 worth of equipment to take back, for use, in the classroom. 8 The STLCC Mobile Technology Center (MTC) is a mobile laboratory for outreach at schools, conferences, and community events. Although the MTC is used by various departments within the college, the CPLS utilizes the van for life science presentations.
