Our hosts at Arkansas Correctional Industries (ACI) have done a wonderful job planning the conference. The location is within driving distance of member states and offers beautiful lake front views. Training topics will appeal to a wide variety of CI staff and offer many opportunities for input from all participants. ACI s preparation and hospitality throughout the conference will result in tremendous value for everyone attending. Networking with other CI professionals is one of the most effective ways to develop new product ideas, share best practices and inject energy into your organization. We here at Arkansas Correctional Industries are excited to host Don t Gamble. 8 2018 South Central Regional NCIA Training Conference Workshop Details Workshop 1: How Do We Become Better Suppliers? Friday 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderator: Bill Hartwick This open forum setting will provide input from some of our critical customers. They will give us important performance factors expected from Correctional Industries. This should be a great exchange of information. Typical shortcomings that we have with suppliers shall be discussed as well. The goal is to establish better solutions to issues our customers may have with us. What are the advantages our customer base realizes when they do business with C.I.? Workshop 2A: How Do We Become Efficient Sales Teams? Friday 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderator: Justin Farris, Administrator from Oklahoma Correctional Industries Discussion will be related to maximizing sales staff, proper utilization of opportunities to display products and spread the C.I. message. How are we best using appearances at conferences, conventions, speaking engagements at civic organizations, etc.? What are you doing to effectively use new electronic marketing tools? New sales techniques and mail outs? Workshop 2B: Administrator Training Friday 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Location: Cypress Moderator: J.D. Colbert, Retired Administrator from Oklahoma Correctional Industries and Jerry Campbell Former Regional President This discussion is designed for Administrators, Assistant Administrators, and Management Staff. Discussion will include training every Administrator should have, development of relationships with prison security staff, and operational staff within C.I. He will give us some insight on possible traps to avoid and implementation of ideas that were effective for CI during his career as C.I. Administrator. This workshop will include proper business plans and goal setting. Workshop 3: Principles of Effective Leadership Saturday 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderator: Steve Strahan, Assistant Administrator from Arkansas This discussion and training track is designed to be an interactive exchange of ideas about what effective leadership practices are as well as those to avoid in leadership roles. This is designed for C.I. but can be effective strategies to use in any leadership position. There will be a discussion of interaction between the leader and the C.I. staff, offender workers, and security administration at your prison. Somewhat entertaining ideas brought out from several professionally acclaimed sources. This class should reinforce sound leadership practices and principles for you as related to working in a prison setting.

9 Workshop 4A: How Are We Integrating C.I. Workers in Reentry Training Tracks? Saturday 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderator: Nicole Smart, Reentry Coordinator for ADC Nicole Smart, Reentry Coordinator for ADC will give ideas about how she is preparing our inmates for release opportunities. Workshop 4B: Creating a Great Customer Service Division Saturday 10:45a.m.-11:45 a.m. Location: Cypress Moderators: Darin Pacher from Texas Correctional Industries Darren will initiate the discussion on how to have the best customer service possible. He will address how to avoid pitfalls regarding delivery time, quality issues, price increases, and other issues our customer may have. How does dealing with issues in a designed, organized manner make your C.I. look good to our customer base? He will share processes that work in Texas and open the floor for discussion from other states. Workshop 4C: Vendor Relations Saturday 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Location: Hickory Moderator: Lt. Cynthia Canezaro, Inmate Industries Lieutenant A panel of nationally recognized C.I. suppliers will have an open discussion with C.I. staff on ways we can become more vendor friendly. This will help in the way we plan, organize, and market products we purchase from them. They will help us overcome obstacles in our supply chain. Workshop 5A: Vendor Relations Saturday 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderator: Kansas A panel of nationally recognized C.I. suppliers will have an open discussion with C.I. staff on ways we can become more vendor friendly. This will help in the way we plan, organize, and market products we purchase from them. They will help us overcome obstacles in our supply chain. Workshop 5B: Effect of Contraband on C.I. Productivity Saturday 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Location: Cypress Moderator: David Taylor, Assistant Administrator from Arkansas Correctional Industries Discussion Topics will include: how the introduction of contraband affects the safety of staff and offender workers, relationship issues caused with security by contraband policies, how much downtime happens due to shakedowns, searches, etc., overcoming loss of key staff and offender workers due to contraband issues, and how we aggressively address contraband issues.

10 Workshop 6: State of Affairs in Our Organizations Saturday 4:15 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderators: Richard Cooper, Administrator from Arkansas Administrators from each state will give some information on VICTORIES and issues in their organization. Very important to share solutions to problems you may be experiencing. Workshop 7: Where We Were to Where We Are Saturday 5:15 p.m.-5:45 p.m. Location: Magnolia Room Moderators: Jerry Campbell, former SCCIA President and J.D. Colbert, Retired Administrator from Oklahoma Correctional Industries These gentlemen will give some insight on where our regional organization started and where we are today. You don t know how to get where you are going unless you know where you started from.

If you are unable to register online and need to be invoiced, please contact NCIA at: We understand that circumstances arise that may require you to cancel. To qualify for a refund in full, a written request must be submitted to Lela Pennington on or before August 1, After that date, a forty percent (40%) refund of conference fees will be provided. No refunds will be made after August 8, Host Hotel: The Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa 239 Central Avenue Hot Springs, Arkansas Reservations: 1-(501) Special Rates: $91.37 single/$91.37 double occupancy (price does not include taxes per night). All reservations must be guaranteed with the first night s room deposit, plus tax, via a major credit card. Individual cancellations must be received by 4:00 pm, 24 hours prior to arrival to avoid a charge of one night s room and tax. NOTE: There is a $10 upcharge for any additional person added to a room, so if there are two people staying in a room, it would be better to book a double instead of a single.
