In this tour, you will go behind-the-scenes of the iconic Mercedes-Benz Superdome! The President s Welcome reception is a chance to meet Loyola Deans and Faculty, mix and mingle with other attendees and enjoy light refreshments. 5:00 p.m. Evening Activities Cocktail Seminar (age 21+ only) Location: Monroe Hall 610 Loyola alumnus Phil Greene is a noted cocktail historian and writer, one of the founders of the Museum of the American Cocktail, and author of The Manhattan: The Story of the First Modern Cocktail with Recipes and To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion. Greene will lead us on a delightfully tasty tour of the history of New Orleans Cocktails. Cocktails and refreshments will be served. Sucre Dessert Studio Field trip to Sucre at 622 Conti Street in the French Quarter. Enjoy the sweet lift with Sucre Dessert Studios. Enjoy a wide sampling of specialty desserts from Sucre Dessert Studio. Dessert and transportation are included. Pre-registration required. 3 9:00 a.m.--12:00 p.m. Field Trips Session 1: Audubon Park Walking Tour Led by Prof. Aimee K. Thomas Nature is known to soothe the soul, add years to your life, and be a beacon of relaxation. Audubon Park is an urban oasis directly across the street from Loyola University along beautiful St. Charles Avenue. This walking tour takes you along the Live Oak tree-lined path of the park and empowers you to look at nature in a different way as we encourage our students to do. Come recalibrate your thinking and explore the park that has provided generations of New Orleanians a place to play and relax in nature. Living in the Mississippi River Delta Region Led by Prof. Bob Thomas The theme is to give context to the concept of adapting to life in the Mississippi River Delta region in general, with a focus on living within the confines of Greater New Orleans. We are arguably living in the most environmentally pressured city in America due to being at the mouth of its greatest river, having 30% of the oil & gas that enters the U.S. passing through our state, hosting one of the top three petrochemical zones of our country, having the largest port (by tonnage) in the nation, and losing our coastal wetlands at a rate of 25 square miles per year over the last 80 years. All of these challenges contribute to the prosperity of our great country, and we will share insights about New Orleans' relationship with the well being of America. Purchase at the door. 1:00 p.m.--4:00 p.m. Field Trips Session 2: Preservation Jazz Hall New Orleans Preservation Hall was established in 1961 to honor one of America s truest art forms Traditional New Orleans Jazz. Operating as a music venue, a touring band, and a non-profit organization, Preservation Hall continues its mission today as a cornerstone of New Orleans music and culture. Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 350 nights a year 3

4 featuring ensembles from a current collective of 100+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition. During this private concert at Preservation Hall, attendees will have an opportunity to listen to music, learn more about the space, and engage directly with musicians in a Q&A session. The National WWII Museum Visit The National WWII Museum, currently ranked by TripAdvisor #1 of 150 New Orleans attractions, #4 museum in the United States and #11 museum worldwide! Receive a VIP welcome and special presentation before viewing the Museum s newest offering on your own: The Campaigns of Courage: European Theater! The Road to Berlin exhibit brings to life the drama, sacrifices, personal stories, and strategies of America s campaign to defeat the Axis powers and preserve freedom. From faltering first battles in North Africa to the bloody struggle at Germany's doorstep, the immersive galleries in Road to Berlin: European Theater Galleries recreate actual battle settings and villages with crumbling walls, bomb-torn rooftops, icy pathways, and a chillingly realistic soundscape as the evocative backdrop for period newsreels, video histories, interactive kiosks, macro artifacts, and tag-able digital displays that dive deeper into the story. The result is a richly layered, multimedia experience that invites exploration and connection like never before: Visitors walking in the shadow of Normandy's brutally dense hedgerows can imagine the challenges that followed D-Day; attending a mission briefing with the Bomber Boys brings visitors inside America's allimportant air strategy; seeing personal artifacts cigarette boxes, photographs scattered over real Normandy sand is a touching perspective on the human cost of the war. The 2018 recipient of the Adjutor Hominum Award is Dr. Cheryl Dileo 71, MMT 75. The outgoing and incoming members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors will also be recognized for their service to Loyola. Music will be provided by current students. 5
