1 News from the Director Freshmen Tours of CCTI On Thursday, January 23, we will host tours of our building and career and technical areas for the freshmen from our sending schools. Approximately 450 students will attend this event. Each sending school will be afforded an hour long tour. During the tour, the students will visit two technical areas of their choice. Our career and technical instructors along with OAC members, community volunteers, and current student volunteers will provide 20 minute presentations designed to display current student projects and inform prospective students on their programs curriculum, materials, significance to the working world, and career opportunities for successful graduates. This year we officially invited all county middle school counselors to spend the entire day to attend all of the presentations and gain valuable knowledge of our school and programs. School will not be in session for us on the 23rd which will enable our career and technical instructors to focus on selling their programs and addressing specific questions from the visiting freshmen. We plan on having a large number of OAC members, community members, and students to act as copresenters and offer relevant information from their fields. We also encourage touring students to arrange follow-up visits to shadow for a full or half day in an area of interest. Shadowing tours can be arranged between our counselor and the sending school HS counselors This year, Palmerton freshman will not be able to attend the tours on the 23 rd because the several snow days we have had this school year created a scheduling conflict. We will schedule an individualized tour day for Palmerton students. The CCTI staff and administration believe these tours are essential to educate students on CCTI and career and technical education in general and encourage them to enroll in CCTI to get a head start on their future. The tour schedule is as follows: Jim Thorpe - 9:00-10:00 AM Lehighton - 10:00-11:00 AM Panther Valley - 12:30-1:30 PM Weatherly - 12:30-1:30 PM The scheduled snow make-up day will be Tuesday, January 28, January 10, 2014 Page 1 of 6
