Some jobs, such as Health Educators, will have a high growth rate (Figure 1), but not a large increase in actual volume (Figure 2). Some jobs, such as Veterinary Technologists & Technicians, will have a high growth rate (Figure 1), but not a large increase in actual volume (Figure 2). Other occupations, like occupations that are growing fast in terms of rate and volume. Consider these occupations when exploring the job market. 6 Jobs and What they Pay in Pennsylvania by Major Occupational Group The table below includes the number of filled jobs in each major Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) group for the year 2008, the percent of total jobs they comprise, and the May average annual wage for the group. Office & administrative support occupations accounted for the largest percentage of Pennsylvania s total filled jobs (16.5%), followed by sales & related occupations (10.5%). Office & administrative support has the most jobs with more than one million while farming, fishing & forestry hold the least with only 50,000. The highest average annual wages were earned by workers in management ($99,810) and legal ($97,780). In contrast, those employed in food preparation & serving and personal care & service earn the least at less than $25,000 per year.
