1 Welcome Marching Band is abot so mch more than msic! We hope this grop will become a second family to yo and yor child. Freshmen marching band stdents will arrive for their first day of high school, as a part of a well-respected organization and will have a whole new grop of friends (across all grades) to help with their transition into high school. We hope to help ease yor transition from new band parent to veteran band parent. Once yo find yor niche yo will see that yo have a band family as well.

9 Forms The following forms mst be completed, signed and retrned to yor school s Performing Arts Secretary before Jly 1 st : Physical Forms signed by a physician Performer Contract Information Verification Medical Information & Consent Volnteer Opportnities Tonight yo received yor marching band handbook. Each marching band stdent and parent or gardian are expected to have read the code of condct and have signed the Performer s Contract acknowledging what is expected as part of the Marching Pride. If yo have not done so please do it tonight. Get forms otside the aditorim tonight, or go to click Forms & Payments and print them at home.
10 Timing Is Everything Early is on time, on time is late. Stdents are expected to arrive for practice 15 mintes early so they are in position and ready to rehearse at the schedled start time. For example: if start time is 6:00pm plan to arrive by 5:45pm. The staff makes every attempt to end rehearsals on time. However, section leaders may reqire short meetings and instrments/eqipment/props still mst be pt away. Yor child may not be ready to leave ntil 15 to 30 mintes after the end of rehearsal. If yo arrive early to pick p yor child yo will be able to listen to dismissal and annoncements, meet other parents, and watch the band rn throgh the show. Check the weekly newsletter and pdates for changes to the schedle. "Being on time reqires zero talent"

12 Jly Band Camp Overview Snday, Jly 23 Mandatory Registration at LC Hall of Fame (Door #11), arrive by 2pm. Parents need to be present to register their stdents. Rehearsal will begin by 3:30pm. Dinner will be provided Jly Band Camp 7am - 9:30pm. Breakfast, lnch, and dinner will be provided (except dinner Jly 29) Satrday, Jly 29 Parent Preview Night 6pm 9pm: pre-order dinner from Jg s Catering or bring yor own food Freshman Orientation and Schedle/ID/Chromebook Pick-p LN stdents: Wednesday, Jly 26th from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Stdents will eat lnch at LC, take the shttle bs to LN, then retrn to rehearsal at LC. Schedle pick-p for pperclassmen will be on Friday, Jly 28 th at 1pm. Stdents will eat lnch at LC, take the shttle bs to LN, then retrn to rehearsal at LC Freshman orientation is Tesday, Jly 25 th from 4:00-6:00 PM. Schedle pickp is Jly 25 th and 26 th. LC stdents are encoraged go dring mealtimes
13 Band Camp Experience MPLT Band Camp is the fondation for the rest of the band season. Mch of the show will be learned dring this intense immersion experience. An ensemble performance grop of this size mst work not only on technical skills, bt the teamwork and discipline that will ensre their sccess in every single performance. Band Camp is a closed camps; after arrival, stdents may not leave ntil they are released by the directors. Parent volnteers are granted special permission to be on camps dring their shift. Absences de to illness mst be called in to a director by a parent. Parents will receive a phone call and/or text message if their child does not report to camp.
14 Band Camp - What to bring Snscreen: it s essential to reapply throghot the day; if yo forgot to bring some, ask the on-site medical provider Insect Repellant Water: a gallon jg is best, water tables will be available at all times dring band camp Comfortable sneakers: no flip flops or sandals allowed Extra socks, extra clothes Hat Snglasses Medications A GREAT attitde!
15 Band Camp - What not to bring Cash: yo won t need it Electronics: yo won t have time to se it Jewelry or valables: yo don t want to risk losing it
16 Band Camp Volnteers First Aid Tent Volnteers are needed at all times to staff this tent. Medical and non-medical positions are available. Water Stations Parents fill cps and pass them ot to the stdents on breaks. Meals Three filling, ntritios meals are provided each fll day of band camp. Each day, parents help prep and serve meals, clean p, and provide homemade desserts. Uniform Fitting This will take place throghot the week. Parent volnteers are needed to coordinate the fittings, no sewing experience needed. Non-parent family members (over 18) are also welcome to volnteer. Please sign p otside the aditorim tonight! Pick a shift (or two, or more!) to help, and sneak a peak at the what the kids are doing. Go to for the link to the volnteer signp.

18 After-School Rehearsals Monday and Tesday 4:30pm 6:30pm (Wednesday off, ntil mid-october, then 4:30 6:30pm) Thrsday 6:30pm 9:30pm Friday 4:30pm 7:30pm (later if we perform at a football game) Satrday 10am 5pm *Color Gard may follow a different schedle Attendance at after-school rehearsals is mandatory, please schedle appointments arond rehearsal when possible. Thrsday nights are Fan Clb Night and families are encoraged to come to the football stadim for the last hor of practice from 8:30pm-9:30pm. Check the calendar at for details.
19 Shttle Bsses to After School Rehearsals Shttle Bsses will transport stdents from their home school (Lawrence Central or Lawrence North) to the school where practice is held. When practice is held at Lawrence Central, the shttle will transport Lawrence North stdents to Lawrence Central. On those days, pick p for all stdents wold be at Lawrence Central. When practice is held at Lawrence North, the shttle will transport Lawrence Central stdents to Lawrence North. On those days, pick p for all stdents wold be at Lawrence North. Activity bsses may be available to take stdents home at the end of Tesday and Wednesday practices.
20 The Contest Season The contest season begins in September with invitationals at Lawrence Central and other Indianapolis-area schools MPLT members rehearse on contest days before their performance. It s not nsal for call times to be very early in the morning and pick-p times to be very late in the evening. Please make sre that yo pick yor child p on time The ISSMA (Indiana State School Msic Association) contests are next with regional, semi-state, and state finals competitions The BOA (Bands of America) competitions end the season with the two-day Sper Regionals and the BOA Grand Nationals Finals week
21 Volnteering Fill ot the Volnteer Opportnity Form and trn it in tonight! The stdents of the Marching Pride needs parents to rn & staff: Band Camp preparing, serving, and cleaning p meals, chaperoning, providing medical help Color Gard prep, hair and makep, cleaning costmes, and more Meal Plan feed or kids before performances throghot the season Pride Bakers make desserts for kids Chaperones for band trips, contests, etc. Crew loading and moving gear, getting the band on and off the field Uniforms fittings and alterations, weekly assistance with washing nitards Fan Clb decorations, morale boosters and cheering Props design and bild the show props Fndraising help to fnd the Pride Fan Clb activities Medical nrses, doctors, and EMTs keep the kids safe and healthy
22 Fees for the season are $700. $200 May 25, 2017 $100 Jne 27, 2017 $100 Jly 23, 2017 $100 Agst 31, 2017 $100 September 30, 2017 $100 October 31, 2017 Fee Schedle Payment plans mst be in place prior to check-in at band camp on Jly 23, Representatives from both schools will be on hand tonight for parents to set p alternate payment plans if needed. 23 Fees: What s inclded What yor marching fee covers (in part): GREAT technical staff and msic instrctors Msic rights, drill design, msic arrangement, choreography Transportation to and from events Entry fees for the band to participate in competitions Props and eqipment Uniform maintenance and replacement Gard niforms and flags Meals and snacks provided dring band camp and select performance and contest days Show shirt & first pair of black socks and gloves Stdent tickets for DCI field trip and BOA field trip Fees cover most, bt not all, of the expenses incrred in rnning the program.
24 Fees: What s not inclded Marching Shoes - all new marchers will be assessed a fee for marching shoes. Retrning marchers may se shoes from previos year IF they are in good shape and are the new Sper Drill Masters ordered last year. Older shoes will have to be replaced. New shoes cost $40. Optional Show Apparel section shirts, sweatpants, jackets and hats will be available for order online throgh or vendor. Go to the Forms & Payments link MPLT website to shop online. Additional Gloves and Socks- if yo lose or destroy yor gloves, yo will need to prchase additional gloves from a director. New gloves cost $4. Same applies to socks, cost is $2. Separate Classroom Fees- concert band and gard will be charged as determined by home school Color Rn Registration - $12 registration fee
