President's Message Joe Kelley GFIA Members, I hope all are well and doing great, that the holidays were wonderful for all. We are starting a new year with some great events coming up. The Spring Conference will be in McDonough on March 27 30, 2018 and the Training and Education Committee has put together another great program. We will have a Board Meeting on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at noon and after class the same day we will have the Annual Membership Meeting at 5:00 PM. Also on Tuesday March 27, 2018 before class starts we will be testing for IAAI CFI. Make sure you contact Corey Cunningham. The Georgia Fire Investigator s Association Southeastern Annual Training Conference will be held July 23-26, 2018 in Savannah. We also be testing for IAAI CFI there too. In closing I know each of us have a lot going on but I would like for each of you the take a minute to remember the members we lost last year and what they do for the Association and Profession. 4 Firefighter Recognition Day at the Capitol Governor Deal honored the recipients of the 2017 Fire Service Awards at the State Capital on February 6th during the Fire Fighters Recognition Day ceremonies. This is the first year that Georgia Arson Control Fire Investigator of the Year was recognized in the ceremony. Visit the GFIA Website gfia-iaai.org

GFIA's Fire Fatality Task Force Launches New Website In 2016, the state of Georgia had 154 fire fatalities. This is the highest number of fatalities in the state since 1995.

The Fire Fatality Task Force was formed after the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs determined that the fire service as a whole needed to address the increase in fatalities across the state.

The Fire Fatality Task Force was formed after the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs determined that the fire service as a whole needed to address the increase in fatalities across the state. The Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs partnered with the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner s Office, Georgia Public Safety Educators Association, Georgia State Firefighters Association, and the Georgia Fire Inspectors Association, and the to educate not only the citizens of the state of Georgia but also the fire service about fire prevention. This recall involves 14 inch ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Generation laptops. Honda Recalls Portable Generators Due to Fire and Burn Hazards The carburetor can leak gasoline, posing fire and burn hazards. This recall involves Honda portable gasoline generators with model numbers EB2800i and EG2800i. Husqvarna Recalls Residential Zero Turn Riding Mowers Due to Fire Hazard An incorrect routing of the fuel line can cause it to wear and leak, posing a fire hazard. This recall involves Husqvarna and Poulan Pro brand residential zero-turn riding mowers with a Briggs & Stratton twin cylinder engine.
