Our ties with the aforementioned University was strengthened by a workshop organized at KEC and participated by professors and students from Korea and Nepal. Lec. Ltd Gongabu, Kathmandu Ph: Published by Kathmandu Engineering College This semester, our students participated and won in various co-curricular events: The Autonomous Plough designed by our Electronics first year students won the 1st runner up position in the thematic event of HEX exhibition while the Hamro Fitness project designed by the EPC students won the 1st runner up position in Vector Moreover, KEC continued to win the All Nepal Asian Paints Students Design Competition this year too: we congratulate our 2070 batch student Nekesh Maharjan for his winning design. We continued our annual events like the Robodrift, career counseling sessions and study tours to strengthen our academic environment. Moreover, the annual Sports Week was also conducted with an enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and staff. This semester too the students of KEC extended their hands for social responsibility through the HHelp Club by organizing various programmes such as blood donation, charity show, etc. This time, the funds collected will be used to support the Dhurmus Suntali foundation. We, at KEC, prepare our students to excel in professional as well as personal life. 2 TRAINING ON ISO 9001:2015, QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ON INTERNAL AUDIT, Kathmandu Engineering College, 31st Baisakh nd Jestha 2075 Kathmandu Engineering College conducted 2 days training on ISO 9001:2015, Quality Management System on Internal Audit from 31st Baisakh nd Bhadra The training was coordinated by the management representative Mr. Mohan Krishna Shrestha and facilitated by Mr. Pradip Tiwari from Vibrant Consult Pvt. Ltd. The training was attended by 29 teachers and staffs from various departments. The certificate distribution programme of the same was held on 15th Srawan The program started with an address from the principal Asso. Prof. Chand S Rana and proceeded with introspective report of two of the participants Asso. Prof. Lila Raj Koirala and Sr. Lec. Anjana Shrestha Vaidya along with that of the trainer Mr. Pradip Tiwari. The certificates were distributed by the chairman Prof. Hirendra Man Pradhan to all participants. The program concluded with a speech from the chairman. KEC is the first ISO certified college of Nepal and such trainings are a part of the work culture of the college. INTERNATIONAL YOG DAY, Kathmandu Engineering College, 07 Ashad 2075 Engineering College have been consistently celebrating this day. The celebration was graced by the presence of Prof. Hirendra Man Pradhan, Chairperson of the college, who shared about the benefits of Yog to the practitioner and the contentment he feels to see Yog been institutionalized in KEC. The Yog Club of KEC organized the International Yog Day celebration on 7th Ashad 2075 (21st June 2018) at the seminar hall. Ever since the declaration of 21 June as International Yog Day, the teachers and students of Kathmandu On this day, Asso. Prof. Chand S. Rana, Principal of the College, highlighted on the multitude benefits of Yog. The main guest of the day was Dr. Raju Adhikari, Yog expert, who discussed about the positive impact of Yog practice in today s urban life. The inhouse Yog Guru Mr. Shanta Kharel mentioned that the technical students of KEC are equally passionate about Yog. During this program, 77 students from KEC who have continually practiced Yog over the course of the year were presented with a certificate of appreciation. The programme concluded with the handing over of the Yog club by the then president Sr. Lec. Madan Neupane to the new president Sr. Lec. Sharad Chandra Joshi. MODEL ENTRANCE EXAM AND EXHIBITION, Kathmandu Engineering College, 30 Asadh 2075 Kathmandu Engineering College, in association with Progress Educational Academy (PEA), conducted a model entrance exam at the college premises on 30 Asar Along with the examination, an exhibition was also organized in coordination with student bodies at KEC: Free Students Council, the Robotics club of KEC, AKAR, Electronics Project Club and Electrical Club. The exhibition focused on projects of architecture, electrical and electronics, and encouraged interactions amongst current and prospective students. About 2100 prospective students visited KEC on this day and could get a prevue of academic life here. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Rajesh Dhakal, an administrative officer at KEC. 2 KEC NEWSLETTER BHADRA 2075

3 ACADEMIC SCHOLAR RECOGNITION PROGRAMME, KEC Seminar Hall, 18th Shrawan 2075 the board member of the college Mr. Ram Prasad Dahal stressed in the hard working nature of our students. The advisor to the department of civil engineering Prof. Dr. Narendra Man Shakya shared his contentment on the till date excellent performance of the students of the department of civil engineering. Moreover, heads of various departments inspired the audience mass by sharing about the achievements of the scholars of their specific departments. The programme concluded with a motivational speech of the chairman, Prof. Hirendra Man Pradhan, who stressed on the need of discipline, persistence and consistency in the work habits for a successful life. DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING GIDC FIELD VISIT, Singha Durbar, 1st Shrawan 2075 k at h m a n d u e ngineering c college Kathmandu Engineering College organized a felicitation programme to award the top 3 students of all faculties based on their score in the previous semester result. The programme is a regular practice of KEC which aims to maintain the academically stimulating environment of the college by sharing the noteworthy achievements of our students in the board exams. The top students were awarded with certificates and books by the chairman and the principal of the college in the presence of the board members, department advisors, vice principal, department heads, faculty and students. The principal of the college Asso. Prof. Chand S Rana congratulated the departments and the scholars during his opening remarks while The Department of Computer Engineering arranged Field Visit to Government Integrated Data Center (GIDC), Singha Durbar for the students of BCT 4th year 2nd part. The visit was coordinated by faculty members Mr. Sharad Chandra Joshi & Mr.Ashish Joshi. The purpose of the visit was to make students familiar with the technologies being incorporated by Government of Nepal in the field of IT. KEC NEWSLETTER BHADRA

4 DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FIELD VISIT, Pokhara, 24th to 29th Jestha The Department of Civil Engineering, KEC, Kalimati organized a week long Construction Management field visit to Pokhara for the students of final year, from Jestha 24th to Jestha 29th. A total of 121 students went to the trip and were accompanied by Er. Ishwar Adhikari and Er. Shishir Rajal. The main objective of the field visit was to familiarize the final year students with different part of under construction structures. IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE ENGINEERING FIELD VISIT, Pokhara, Ashad 21st to Ashad 29th A field visit for Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, to Pokhara, was organized by Department of Civil Engineering for the students of third year from Ashad 21st to Ashad 29th. 121 students participated for the 9 days long field visit. They were coordinated by group of faculties following; Er. Ramesh Kaphle, Er. Bikash Raj Joshi, Er. Tirtha Karki and Er. Rajan Nhemaphuki. The main objectives of the visit was to familiarize the third year students with the different parts of hydraulic structures used in Irrigation System. GEOLOGY FIELD VISIT, Malekhu Khola, Jestha 31st to 3rd Ashad The Department of civil Engineering organized a geological field visit to Malekhu for the students of second year from Jestha 31st to Ashad 3rd. A total of 121 students went for the visit and were coordinated by Er. Harshikesh Karna, Er. Sandeep Bhandari, Er. Sunil Rakhal, and Geologists Mamata Sayami and Rosina Mali. The main objective of the field visit was to familiarize the second year students with the different types of rocks and geological features on earth surface. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS PROGAM AND AUTOCAD TRAINING, KEC Premises, 28th Baisakh to Present. The Department of Civil Engineering has been conducting programs on Structural Analysis Program (SAP) and AutoCAD for final year students of Bachelor in Civil Engineering from Baisakh 28 in order to facilitate them with the skills needed to do the final year projects, especially 4 KEC NEWSLETTER BHADRA 2075 related to the design and construction of buildings. This year s training is being conducted by Er. Harshikesh Karna, Er. Albert Dahal, Er. Shishir Rijal, Er. Tirtha Karki. A total of 60 students have been enrolled in the class.

5 DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS,COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION ENGINEERING Students of Robotics Club; Kathmandu Engineering college, participated in the Thematic Competition, organized by Himalaya College of Engineering, located at Chyasal-9 Lalitpur. The participating students won the 1st runner up position after demonstrating the project entitled: Autonomous Plough. HEx-2018 with the theme Engineering to Develop Nepal was an exhibition for Civil modelling, Hardware and Software projects from various Engineering and IT colleges including various other events such as Technical Quiz, Code War, Robo racer, Sumo Bot Wrestling and Gaming. The Autonomous Plough was made with the sight of making farming efficient, faster and easier without the need of any human resource. It is a product of engineering which introduces automation into the field of farming. Introducing these kinds of new technology into the field of agriculture will result in better farming and high yield and hence better in overall agricultural economy of our country. Our students were capable of grasping exactly what the competition needed and were able to create an amazing project which shows their determination and knowledge. Despite being 1st-year Robotics club members, they have made the senior members as well as the college proud of their achievement. We are proud to have these students and want to congratulate them on their accomplishment. INTERACTIVE PROGRAM FOR THE BEX STUDENTS REGARDING FURTHER STUDIES IN FINLAND, Kathmandu Engineering College, 29th Asadh 2075 A seminar for the BEX students concerning further studies in Finland was held in 5th of July by Department of Electronics, Communication and Information Engineering in KEC seminar hall. All the faculty members of department of Electronics and Communication engineering as well as the students of 3rd and 4th year participated on the program. Prof. Nandana Rajatheva, Er. 6 3RD NATIONAL FPGA DESIGN COMPETITION 2018, Kathford Int l College of Engineering and Management, 30th Asadh 2075 Digitronix Nepal Pvt. Ltd. and Kathford Int l College of Engineering and Management jointly organized 3rd National FPGA design competition It was held in the periphery of Kathford Int l College of Engineering and Management. Sr. Lecturer Er.Madan Neupane from Kathmandu Engineering College was invited to the event as a Jury Member for judging the competition. The main objective of the competition was to promote electronic hardware design based on FPGA in Nepal. FPGA, a short form for Field Programmable Gate Array, is a programmable chips technology widely used in hardware systems such as mobile phones, cars to applications in space missions. VISIT TO THE TRANSMISSION STATIONS, Singha Durbar, Balambu and Bhaisipati, 12 Shrawan 2075 A field visit to Radio Nepal and Nepal Television was organized by department of Electronics, Communication and Information engineering. The students studying the Broadcast Engineering as their elective subject visited the different transmission stations located at Singha Durbar, Balambu and Bhaisipati. Associate Prof. Er. Shiva Raj Baral and Lecturer Er. Ravi Poudel led the visit. The main objective of the field visit was to impart practical knowledge to the students. DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MICRO-HYDRO FIELD VISIT, Dhading, 19th to 20th Ashad. Department of Electrical Engineering organized a Micro-Hydro field visit to Malekhu khola MHP (26kW) at Mahadevsthan, Dhading, for 4th year students as per the requirement of the syllabus for elective III - Microhydropower. The trip was led by Lecturer Nischal Guruwacharya and Lecturer Kanchan Bohra and assissted by Mr. Dharma Lamichhane. A total of 36 students participated in the visit. 7 CAREER COUNSELING PROGRAM, KEC, 29th Ashad KEC Electrical club conducted a career counseling program - Career after studying electrical engineering on 29th of Ashad in Kathmandu Engineering College Seminar Hall. About 100 students from 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of Bachelors in Electrical Engineering took part in the event. The counseling was done by Mr. Mahesh Ghimire,Seminar technical officer and program manager (AEPC), Mr. Rajeev Sharma, Deputy Managing Director (NEA) and Mr. Surendra Bikram Mathema (Power tech Nepal Pvt. Ltd.) highlighting the scope of electrical engineers in Nepal. VISIT TO PHILIPS COMPANY, A visit to Philips Company,at Jamal, was organized by Department of Electrical Engineering, KEC on 4th of Shrawan. A total of 39 numbers of students went for the visit. The trip was led by Asso. Professor Jayaiswer Man Pradhan and Sr. Lec Archana Maharjan. The purpose of the visit was to do the market study and collect the informative brochures and specifications on various Philips lamps, appliances and equipments. HYDROPOWER FIELD VISIT, Sunkoshi, 17th of Shrawan Department of Electrical Engineering, KEC, arranged a Hydropower Field Visit for third year students of Electrical Engineering on 17th of Shrawan to Sunkoshi Hydropower, as per the Syllabus. Lab chief Chitra Bahadur Khadka and visiting faculty engineer Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary led the visit. The main objective of the visit was to impart the practical knowledge of Hydro power plant and various civil and electrical structures of the power plant, among the students. WELCOME AND FAREWELL PROGRAMMME, KEC, 22nd Shrawan. k at h m a n d u e ngineering c college Jamal, 4th Shrawan. Second year students of Electrical Engineering, KEC, conducted a Welcome and Farewell Program on 22nd of Shrawan. About 150 students from 1st year to 4th year participated in the event, along with Principal, Vice Principal, Head of Department, Deputy Head of Department and member of Board of Directors, Mr. Ram Prasad Dahal. As the event welcomed freshers of 2074 batch to KEC, it also bid farewell to the graduating batch of The graduating students were presented with token of love and the semester toppers of different years were honored with token of appreciation. 8 DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE GUEST LECTURE AT HANDONG GLOBAL UNIVERSITY, Pohang, South Korea,13 Baisakh 2075, Handong Global University and Kathmandu Engineering College have entered in an agreement to develop academic and cultural exchange programs. On 13 Baisakh 2075, Asso. Prof. Kailash Shrestha, Head of Department of Architecture, was invited in Pohang, South Korea to give a lecture on Urban Development in Kathmandu Valley. Since the University s course of studies primarily focuses in city planning, the lecture was fruitful to the students that helped them understand the development of Kathmandu valley. SITE VISIT for LOW COST HOUSING Ravibhawan, 25 Jestha 2075 A one day visit was conducted by Department of Architecture for the course of the elective subject, Low Cost Housing, on 25 Jestha to the site: Shelter and Local Technology Development (SLTD) office at Ravibhawan. A total of 13 students of batch 2071 attended the site where they had discussion with the founder of the center, Er. Bhuwaneshwor Lal Shrestha, about the use of hollow cement concrete block masonry building system as a sustainable and cost effective building approach in urban in the Kathmandu valley. The visit was coordinated by Asso. Prof. Sweta Shrestha and Lec. Sagun Maharjan. EDUCATIONAL TOUR FOR URBAN AND SETTLEMENT PLANNING, Bandipur, Asar 2075 The students of Bachelor in Architecture year III- part II attended a four day educational tour to Bandipur as per the requirement for partial fulfilment of the course Urban and Settlement Planning from 21 to 24 Asar They visited Ramkot to study its rural setting. Asso. Prof. Kailash Shrestha and Sr. Lec. Subash Phuyal facilitated the tour of around 47 students of batch The main objective of the tour was to educate with concept and necessity of planning by direct observation and on-site analysis. 9 SITE VISIT for LOW COST HOUSING, Hattiban, 15 Asar 2075 Another one day visit was conducted by the Department as a follow up for low cost housing techniques at Hattiban on 15 Asar. A total of 13 students of batch 2071 attended the housing site designed by IN Deco Design. They were familiarized with the ideas, materials and technologies applied in construction of cost effective buildings. The infill walls are constructed with interlocking block made of chips, sand dust and cement. The constructional methods were explained by Ar. Aakash Bhochhivoya and Er. Ishop Amatya from the office. The visit was coordinated by Asso. Prof. Sweta Shrestha. college 7th ASIAN PAINTS COLLEGE LEVEL DESIGN COMPETITION, JURY PRESENTATION, Department of architecture, Kathmandu Engineering college organized a one day workshop collaborating with Hangdong Global University on 21 Asar at KEC seminar hall. Prof. Cha Mun Koo, Prof. David along with 10 students from the University had been invited as guests to Nepal. In the seminar, students and teachers from both universities had equal participation. The program was initiated with a warm welcome speech by the Principal of Kathmandu Engineering College, Asso. Prof. Chand S. Rana and further continued with presentations of students works from both institutions. Further, Professor David presented his short talk about the necessity of Law in technical field such as architecture. After that, Professor Koo presented on two topics about Earthquake in South Korea and importance of green landscape in cities. The workshop was a success to bring both Kathmandu Engineering College and Hangdong Univerity much closer than before. This collaboration has helped both students and teachers to share and exchange their ideas. k at h m a n d u A college level design competition titled Pavillion Design - space for everyone was organized by Asian Paints Nepal and the Department of Architecture, Kathmandu engineering College. 13 students of batch 2071 participated in the competition which was coordinated by Asso. Prof. Moon Singh Dongol and Lec. Sagun Maharjan. The final jury presentation of the competition was held on 25 Asar at the KEC seminar hall where the jury members were Ar. Poonam Shah from Shah Associates and Ar. Sanjay Lal Shrestha from Outre Design. 10 ROBOTICS CLUB ROBODRIFT 5.0, KEC, 30 Ashar The Robotics Club of Kathmandu Engineering College organized a one day robotics competition Robodrift 5.0 on Ashar 30. The competition Robodrift is an annual event organized by the Robotics club which provides a platform for the fellow robot builders to test their robots in a real arena. The Robotics Club has been organizing events annually to test the engineering minds of young students and put their knowledge into test in a real applicable game arena. Moreover, this edition of Robodrift focused on a wirelessly controlled robot capable of clearing a tunnel automatically. As illustrated by the theme, the robot first had to connect bridges manually to make its way to a tunnel, then surpass a given tunnel by switching the robot to automatic mode, detecting the walls of tunnel. But, surpassing the tunnel was not the only task as the robot had to be switched back to the manual mode again to complete the racing track to reach its destination. Team Topaz with team members Alisha Dhakal, Evasana Pradhan and Asmi Mishra was declared winner and team Nightmare with team members Atit Kharel, Ashlesha Malla and Ankit Bajgain was declared 1st runner up. 11 teams, each team consisting of 3 members participated in Robodrift 5.0. The participants were 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year students from Electronics, Electrical and Computer faculties of Kathmandu Engineering College. ELECTRONICS PROJECT CLUB VECTOR 2075, WRC, Pokhara,3rd to 5th Shrawan FSU: Free Students Union, of Western Regional Campus (WRC), Lamachaur- Pokhara, conducted a technical festival Vector; Direct your Vision which lasted from 3rd to 5th Shrawan. It is a national level technical festival of Paschimanchal Campus organized by Free Students Union, Paschimanchal Campus in association with different active Technical Clubs from Paschimanchal Campus. Two groups; Smart Krishi and Hamro Fitness from Robotics Club of KEC and KEC Electronics Project Club respectively participated in the event. Students from Electronics Project Club; Nima Thing(IV/II), Lila Rana (IV/ II) and Raju Sharan(III/II), won the 1st Runner up award for successfully demonstrating and running the project entitled : Hamro Fitness in the event. Hamro Fitness is an innovative idea in the field of Health and Science as it has the potential to bring about vast number of applications and technicality in the way fitness is seen. From recording the workout period to displaying of calories burnt and its representation in a graph is intriguing for both fitness enthusiast and normal person. This was equally appreciated by the visitors and judges and made it worthy of the position. Smart Krishi on the other hand was for the purpose of agricultural productivity enhancement and was able to identify the suitability of a particular type of crop according to the quality of the soil using machine learning algorithms. 11 e c ASSOCIATION OF KEC ARCHITECTURE (AKAR) Workshop on Accessibility and Universal Design - 15th - 16th Asadh Plantation CEEP th Asadh college Teacher s Day th Shrawan Architectural Interaction Session(AIS) at BEA - 10th Asadh FREE STUDENTS COUNCIL (FSC) ngineering SPORTS WEEK 2075, 28th Baisakh 3rd Jestha 2075, Prize Distribution Programme, KEC Premises, 18th Srawan 2075 The annual sports week programme was organized with much solemnity and fanfare at the KEC premises and nearby sports grounds. The members of the current FSC body coordinated the conduction of various sports and games in coordination with teachers and student volunteers. The winners of the same were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates in a separate ceremony. The winners and coordinators of various games were felicitated by the chairman and the principal of the college in the presence of board members, vice principal, various department heads, faculty, staff and a fervent mass of cheering students. k athmandu PRE EVENT FOR THE EXHIBITION 2075, Kathmandu Engineering College, 30 Asar 2075 A mini exhibition was organized as a pre event of the main exhibition to be held in KEC. The exhibition focused on the prospective students of KEC who were familiarized with various aspects of co-curricular and extracurricular activities of the college. This exhibition was also an information sharing platform where prospective students could receive information about various subjects in engineering and architecture. The members of the current FSC actively interacted with the prospective students and explained them about life as an engineering student. KEC NEWSLETTER BHADRA
