The Board is an elected, unpaid group of nine citizens who set policy and make decisions on educational, financial, and personnel matters for the Mendham Borough Schools on behalf of all residents. We are always pleased when members of the community attend our meetings. The Board and the school district operate under applicable New Jersey laws and under regulations of the New Jersey State Board of Education. Each meeting includes opportunities for those attending to comment on matters of interest to them, including matters on the published agenda. Early in the meeting, there is a Public Comments period to provide an opportunity for members of the public to speak on agenda items only. Additionally, members of the public will have the opportunity to make comments after the Board s discussion of New Business. Law limits discussion of individual personnel. We desire sincerely that our meetings will provide useful opportunities for communication between the Board and the community. Thank you for attending. COMMITTEE REPORTS 9.1 Curriculum and Instruction Did not meet. 9.2 Finance/Facilities and Technology Discussed Mountain View Direct Install project, Hilltop HVAC bid, Mountain View handicap ramp, and potentional out of district placement 9.3 Personnel and Management - Discussed personnel items on agenda 9.4 Policy/Public Relations Did not meet. 10. ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF REPORTS Superintendent Report Mountain View Boys Lacrosse team advanced to Finals in County Tournament today. Seventh grade Spanish classes recently participated in the "Pulsera Project." Organized by Senora Vila, students learned about the causes of poverty in Central America, along with the basics of running a business, all while sharpening their communication in the target language. From May 1 through May 5, students sold one-of-a-kind bracelets and handbags designed by Nicaraguan artists, raising funds to educate and empower Central American artists. On May 17, 7th grade parents were invited to Mountain View for a presentation and celebration of the students' work. Mountain View's Band, Chorus, and Orchestra members competed in the annual "High Note Music Festival" on Friday, May 12. The Advanced Band earned an excellent rating, while the Chorus, Band, Orchestra, and Mountain View Singers earned superior ratings. After a successful morning of performances guided by Mrs. Carpenter and Ms. Ferrara, students enjoyed an afternoon of fun at Dorney Park. On Monday, May 15, Mountain View's Solar Sprints Club, under the direction of Mr. Damato, participated in their annual car race at Great Meadows. The team of Connor Viola and Charlie Zaybekian had the fifth fastest car of more than 60 entries and qualified to race in yesterday's county finals, where they finished in the top 30. Hilltop The Hilltop students and staff recently completed their character education focus on citizenship. The pillar kicked off with our coin drive and packing event for Operation Shoebox New Jersey, where we raised over $1,900 to ship goods, and students packed 300 goodie bags for American troops overseas. 7 Recently, students shared ways they can help the world with their own two hands, learned how to say "Hello" in different languages and culminated their understanding of citizenship with a whole school morning meeting yesterday, with guest speakers from Mountain View presenting as well. 16 16.1 Motion to approve the submission of the English Language Services Plan for the through school year upon the recommendation of the Superintendent Merit Bonus for Business Administrator WHEREAS, on September 27, 2016, pursuant to NJAC 6A:23A-3.1 and its contract with the Business Administrator/Board Secretary, the Board of Education established quantitative and qualitative criteria and associated merit bonuses for the Business Administrator/ Board Secretary for the school year, and WHEREAS, the Board of Education has now reviewed indicators of the achievement of those goals, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Board of Education makes the following determinations and directs that its determinations be submitted to the Executive County Superintendent of Schools for approval before payment, as required by law: Quantitative Criteria Status Merit Bonus Approved The organizational chart was revised for the school year to place non-instructional administrators under the business administrator. The newly formed operations team will oversee planning and execution of financial management, facilities management, and technology management. Technology management will be woven deeper into operations areas such as building automation, communications, and security. Facilities management will look to make greater use of technology in maintaining infrastructure efficiently. Both new orientations must be done while being governed by sound financial management and cost containment. The new operations team will set operational goals for the year and meet twice a month to schedule assignments and provide status updates on completion.
