Over 1000 people visited the library throughout the day to pick up reading logs and enjoy activities. Kids of all ages had fun listening to wild stories, making crazy monsters, and seeing the wacky puppeteering antics of our pals Gladys, Myrtle, and Bernard! If you missed the fun that day, there are still lots more opportunities to enjoy summer fun at the library. Visit our website or the calendar in this newsletter to find out when you can stop by for story time, crafts, STEM activities, wild animals in the library, and many more WILD events! And don t forget that the Summer Reading Program continues through the end of July, so keep reading and visiting the library for a chance to win fabulous prizes! We re excited to add a splash of color and welcome our new neightbors at the Scott Community College Urban Campus. These bright banners ensure you can always find The Library! Cart, check out a guitar, use a 3D printer, catch a movie, investigate the past with Richardson-Sloane Special Collections, attend a book club, renew your driver s license, and so much more! 6 July August READ WILD Summer Reading Program Finishers Pool Party! Saturday, August 4, 2:00-4:00 at Fejervary Aquatic Center Celebrate a summer of reading with a big splash! Kids who finish our Summer Reading Program will receive a ticket to a pool party at Fejervary Aquatic Center. Admission is free with your ticket! Join us for swimming, fun activities, and our grand prize drawings! Also don t miss our door prize drawings, including a year of free pizza generously donated by Marco s Pizza! Nahant Marsh Presents: Iowa Turtles! Friday, July 6, 2:00 at Eastern Live aquatic and land species will be at the library! Their different adaptaions, diets, and habitats will be discussed. Live Action Clue Saturday, July 7, 2:00 at Eastern Have you always loved playing Clue? Become part of the mystery with live action Clue, where you not only look for the suspect, but may actually BE the culprit. Registration required. Touch a Truck Saturday, July 14, 10:00-12:00 at Fairmount The big trucks are back! You ll have the opportunity to see vehicles from Davenport Police, Fire, and Public Works. Climb inside and check out the controls before you check out a book in the library! My Tie Dye Tuesday, July 24, 2:00 at Eastern Join us and make some fun, funky tie dye! Bring an item to dye (cotton or linen work best) or dye one of the provided handkerchiefs. It s to dye for! Note: This could get messy! Please consider wearing clothing that you don t mind staining. LEGO Night Tuesday, July 24, 6:00 at Fairmount Come play with the library s thousands of Legos for an hour of free-build! We ll provide the bricks, you supply the imagination. DIY Washer Windchimes Saturday, July 28, 2:00 at Fairmount Use alcohol inks to color metal washers and make unique windchimes. This multi-generational program is appropriate for ages 8+. Bix Porch Party Thursday, August 2, 11:00-1:00 at Main Head downtown, where folks will be dancin in the street! Don Estes and the Prairie Ramblers will be playing live jazz for the Davenport Public Library s annual Bix Porch Party at Main. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs as we block off Main Street for some good, old-fashioned fun. The Teen Volunteer Council will be providing hot dogs and lemonade, welcoming any donations that will go toward enriching the teen experience at the library. 6 Be Still: Meditation for Teens & Silent Reading Party Saturday, July 21, 1:00 at Eastern Curious about meditation and how it works? The library and Prairie River Sangha welcome teens for an hour of stillness and meditation instruction. Once calm and focused, stay for the Silent Reading Party! DIY Teens! True Crime Club Third Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 at Fairmount Calling all true crime fans! Whether you obsessively watch Investigation Discovery, are a devout Ann Rule reader, or became hooked on true crime through podcasts, this club is for you! Each month we will pick a different theme, so bring your related local stories, famous cases, unsolved mysteries, or anything true crime related you want to discuss.
