Late Arrival Check-In If arriving on campus after 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, go to the 24-hour Housing Services office at the Residence on Fifth at 4700 Fifth Avenue. Late check-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. for students to obtain their student ID, keys and Orientation materials. The move-in process is made possible by the coordination of Housing Services and the extraordinary volunteer support of many members of student organizations, Greek organizations and alumni, along with the Orientation and Residential Education staffs. 1

A fully functional branch of the U.S. Postal Service and a package pickup window are open. 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Copying and Shipping Center Tartan Ink Cohon Center, Lower Level 83 If you have documents that need to be printed, copied or shipped, visit the copying and shipping center, Tartan Ink. Services include printing materials, scanning and copying materials, binding and finishing, and UPS shipping and drop-off point. For more information, visit cmu.edu/tartanink.

5 Saturday, August 18 Evening Activities for Students 10 a.m. 3 p.m. Computing Services Help Center Kirr Commons, Cohon Center Lobby Stop by the Computing Services table for help with your computing and account-related questions or it-help@cmu.edu. 11 a.m. 3 p.m. Enrollment Services and ID Card Photos The HUB, Lower Level, Warner Hall A12 If you did not submit a photo for your ID card prior to July 9, you will be supplied with a temporary key to access your room at residence hall check-in. You must report to The HUB for a photo in order to receive your student ID card, which serves as your official room key. Please bring your residence hall check-in envelope with you. Commuter students can pick up their IDs at The HUB. You can also speak with a student services specialist regarding student accounts, financial aid, tuition payments, ID cards or Plaid Cash. First-year course registration questions should be directed to your individual college and academic advisor. 5 7:30 p.m. Dinner on Your Own Consult the Cohon Center Information Desk for a directory of local restaurants, or visit opentable.com/pittsburghrestaurants for restaurant information. 7 Sunday, August 19 Family Orientation Sessions Welcome Day and Family Orientation sessions are open to all new students and their families. You're encouraged to use this day to attend Orientation sessions, get settled on campus and complete necessary university business. All students and family members are encouraged to attend the President's Welcome and individual college programs. Noon 1 p.m. Student Insurance Information Connan Room, Cohon Center This session gives an overview of the Student Health Insurance plan for all CMU students. There will be information on how to waive the insurance plan and a short Q&A at the end of the program. 1 2 p.m. CMU Together: A Glimpse at Our Community of Care Chosky Theater, Purnell Center for the Arts Want to know the best tips on how to thrive as a new Carnegie Mellon family member or student? It starts with getting connected to the people and resources we have on campus. This session is useful for families and their students to learn about our community of care and available resources and opportunities as a new member of the CMU family. 1:30 2:30 p.m. Fraternity and Sorority Information Session Connan Room, Cohon Center Meet CMU s Greek Life staff and student leaders representing the three Greek governing councils. Attendees learn about the student experience in fraternities and sororities and are provided with information about the structure, traditions and culture of CMU s Greek community. New students and families are welcome to attend. 7

10 Breakout Sessions continued 2 3 p.m. University Libraries and IDeATe Presentation and Tour IDeATe Studio A, Hunt Library 106B The Dean of Libraries and Director of Emerging and Integrative Media Initiatives, Keith Webster, offers a presentation about Hunt Library and how students can utilize the University Libraries, including how academic libraries have changed to include programs such as IDeATe, the Integrative Design, Arts and Technology network that offers undergraduate minors and courses in game design, animation and special effects, media and sound design, and more. IDeATe Assistant Director Kelly Delaney explains how students can incorporate the program and its facilities into their undergraduate experience. 2 3 p.m. Welcome Reception and Open House Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion, Lower Level, Cohon Center The Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion promotes student success and engagement. The center supports and connects historically underrepresented students and those who are first in their family to attend college. The center offers resources to enhance the student experience in dimensions such as access, success, campus climate and intergroup dialogue. Families and students are invited to visit the office and meet center staff. Current students will be on hand to answer questions and meet incoming students and share perspectives on adjusting to life at Carnegie Mellon. 2 4:30 p.m. International Student and Family Welcome and Immigration Check-In McConomy Auditorium, Cohon Center The Office of International Education welcomes international students to campus, providing important immigration information. The mandatory immigration check-in for students in F-1/J-1 statuses will be completed during this time. While this session is mandatory for non-immigrant international students on Carnegie Mellon s visa documents (F-1 or J-1 status), international students in other statuses or U.S. citizens who live abroad are welcome, but not required, to attend this session. Refer to instructions from the Office of International Education for information about items you must bring to this session to complete the mandatory check-in. 3 4:15 p.m. Welcome Session for International Families Studio Theater, Cohon Center Linda Gentile, director of the Office of International Education, along with a student panel, welcome international families and share their experiences and perspectives on adjusting to life in the U.S. and at Carnegie Mellon. Topics inculde time management, making friends, communicating with family, getting involved and culture shock. Family members will have the opportunity to ask questions. 8

11 3 4 p.m. Transfer and Commuter Student Welcome Reception Connan Room, Cohon Center Student Affairs and current students will welcome new transfer and commuter students to campus. Meet other commuter and transfer students. Family members are welcome to attend. There will be refreshments, a short welcome and some activities. Commuter students who have not yet received their student ID may pick it up at this reception. 3 4 p.m. Helping Your Student Optimize their Holistic CMU Experience (families only) Tent, College of Fine Arts Lawn Join leaders in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs who will welcome parents and family members to the community. The presenters will share insights about the academic and social transition to college, how the university partners with parents and family members for student success, campus resources and events just for parents and family members, and the engaging and transformative experience awaiting their student. 4 5 p.m. Family Farewell Students, please use this time in the afternoon to say farewell to your families. Meet Hillel staff, student leaders in CMU s Jewish Students Association and fellow first-year Jewish students.
