4 ORIENTATION 2016 Capture the Moment Important Symbols A Guideline Wrist Band You need to wear your checkered wristband all week. Replacement cost for a new one is $10 and can be purchased at the Orientation Table in the Cohon Center lobby. Student ID This symbol indicates that you must have a Carnegie Mellon student ID to participate in the event. Activities Board The Activities Board coordinates a wide variety of events to entertain and enrich the life of the campus community. The events represent a variety of topics and genres, and all the committees work together to present a broad range of events for the campus throughout the year. Late Night The Late Night logo designates events sponsored by the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement and Civic Engagement (SLICE) Late Night Program. Late Night offers a diverse array of free events on select Friday and Saturday evenings in the Cohon Center from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Hosted by Student Organizations and the Office of Student Activities, there is always something to do. Visit:cmu.edu/latenight. Pittsburgh Connections Through a generous grant from the R.K. Mellon Foundation, CMU students are offered discounted opportunities to engage in a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities located off campus. Helping students develop and maintain a physically active lifestyle and connect to the Pittsburgh region, this program provides exciting recreational activities to students throughout the school year. Green Leaf This symbol indicates events and organizations that are committed to sustainability and environmental awareness. 4

If you have arranged for a special dietary need related to a medical condition or food allergy, your meal will be labeled and identified as a Special Dining Order and will be available in Wiegand Gymnasium. Please see your OC or RA for assistance or ask a member of the dining staff in Wiegand Gymnasium. DineXtra is better than cash! If you run out of meal blocks or FLEX, DineXtra is better than cash or credit when eating on campus and at our off-campus partners because you receive a bonus value of up to 10% of the amount added. In this semester-long program, students live, work and study in Washington, D.C., coming into direct contact with political, business and community leaders and learning about the most pressing policy issues of the day. Students earn 48 units for the CMU/WSP, interning three days per week in any sector or field of interest within Washington, D.C., while taking 23

The Institute for Politics and Strategy sponsors events and a policy forum in Washington for students participating in the program to further enrich their experience and enhance their understanding of how Washington functions as a hub of international and public policy decision making. How Study Abroad Can Work for You Connan Room, Cohon Center Over 500 Carnegie Mellon students, from all majors, study abroad annually. With careful planning, students may study abroad for a semester, academic year or summer in various countries around the world, including Carnegie Mellon s campus in Doha, Qatar. There are additional opportunities for short-term, noncredit study abroad experiences. Anyone considering study abroad is encouraged to attend. Chris Menand and Jaycie King, coordinators of Study Abroad in the Office of International Education, host this information session. Students who have participated in study abroad programs will be available to answer questions and share their experiences. 24

Student leaders will be on hand to answer questions to help you discover how you can get involved and help grow as a student leader within these organizations. The event is open to all students. FRIDAY 1-4 p.m. University Libraries Tours Hunt Library tours start every half hour Learn what services CMU Libraries have to offer and how to access the various resources and databases.
