2 Welcome To MTCO We are proud to announce the introduction of digimax Fiber Optic services to Washington. This service provides Voice, Internet and IPTV which is the latest and greatest in broadcast television services. IPTV operates using internet protocol technology, but is a separate private video network that was built from the ground up by MTCO. Many of you are already familiar with MTCO Communications, but we would like to share a little history on this family owned and operated company. In 1945, Ray Rauh moved his family to Metamora when he purchased the Metamora Telephone Company. Over the years, family members have worked and managed the business into a telecommunications company offering top quality service backed by highly trained and motivated employees. In 1984, Marseilles Telephone Company was purchased as a way to help keep employees working during the economic recession the area was then facing. It proved to be a great addition to the company, and led the company into becoming a managing partner in Illinois Valley Cellular. MTCO Communications was formed in 1995 offering long distance services and Internet to the Metamora, Germantown Hills, and Marseilles communities. We were the first company to bring Internet service to these communities, and the first to bring high speed Internet as technology progressed, keeping our towns in the technological forefront of communications. In 2013, MTCO was awarded a contract to serve the City of Washington with a 100% fiber optic network. We are now offering fiber service to customers in Washington in limited areas, however our coverage area is expanding daily. 3 Entertainment & Technology Smart Lock For Your Home The Goji Smart Lock takes pictures of who is at your door and automatically sends picture alerts to your mobile phone, providing you with real-time information about who is accessing your home. Shipments begin June 14, You can get more information about their products at Apps Parents Should Know About If you monitor your children s phones and ipods for their safety, here is the first of a 3-part series detailing some apps to be aware of: YikYak - A new app that allows anonymous text-only posts that can be viewed by 500 Yakkers who are nearest to the person who wrote the Yak, as determined by GPS tracking. Users are being exposed to explicit content and personal attacks. Schools are starting to block the App on their Wi-Fi. Kik Messenger - A private messenger app that allows kids to send private messages that their parents can t see, and is an easy tool for sexting. There is also very little you can do to verify the identity of someone on Kik, which obviously poses the risk of predators chatting with your child. Move Over Google, MTCO Fiber now in Washington! As cities over the United States lobby to entice Google Fiber to come to their communities, MTCO Communications broke ground last summer on a mult-year project to deliver Fiber Internet, TV, and Voice services to residents and businesses in the city of Washington! This powerful 100% fiber optic network will literally connect you to all that you love at the speed of light! The first area MTCO is lighting up with digimax Fiber Optics is in homes north of the 24 Bypass and the new apartments on Mallard Way. The next area to see fiber optic service installation will be the Kingsbury Road area. When we reach your neighborhood during the initial design and engineering phase, you will see white flags along the utility easement, followed by JULIE personnel marking services with various colored flags. Outside crews will begin directional boring and fiber vaults will be placed in the ground. Once you have pre-subscribed to digimax Fiber services, an MTCO technician will visit to determine the best location for the fiber facility to enter your home or business. JULIE will be called and the outside crew will bring fiber optics to the side of your home. Once the fiber is lit up at your home, an MTCO customer service rep will contact you to finalize your request and schedule a time for on-site installation! To communicate directly during this build out process, MTCO will drop off informational door hangers progressively in each neighborhood, and follow-up with direct mail as we get closer. In addition, we will continue to post overall project progress updates in this monthly community publication. 6 In Our Community 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Five Points Washington is excited to announce that a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held on June 7, 2014 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Five Points Washington. The tournament will be open to both boys and girls entering grades six thru eight in the fall. The tournament will be limited to 32 teams divided into eight pools with 3 to 4 players per team. Each team will play a minimum of three games of ten minutes each. Teams with the best record in each pool will advance to the championship bracket. This 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will provide another opportunity for young people to have fun, stay fit, and compete in an organized, supervised event. Dericco Reed Team Hope Walk The Inaugural Central Illinois Team Hope Walk will be held on Saturday, June 21, Sign up for the walk begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Rotary Shelter in Washington, and the walk ends by 2:00 p.m. Come out and walk to support the mission of Huntington s Disease Society of America (HDSA). The Society is a national, voluntary health organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with Huntington s disease and their families. The day s festivities will include a bounce house, balloon twisting, face painting, food and fun. Plays at Five Points Miss Laura s School of Dance presents Live It Up! on June 8, 2014 at Five Points theater. Doors open at 2:15 p.m. with curtain call at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are priced Adult $12.50 and Child $7.50 Every Friday night you can help support the American Legion Post 100 in Washington and have $.35 wings. 7 Washington s annual festival is back and better than ever. Here is a list of festival highlights: Park District Summer Fun Summer Concert Series kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014 with Donna Weghorst & Friends at the Washington Park-Rotary Shelter. Senior Moment (Eldon Hirstein Orchestra) will perform on Sunday, June 15th. These concerts are free of charge. Remember to bring your lawn chairs or blanket. Summer Camp Adventurers begins Monday, June 9th. Camp is available for boys and girls 5 years old to entering 6th grade. Two-week sessions, one-week sessions, or three days per week sessions are all available. Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with before care and aftercare available. Each week has a different theme with multiple field trips planned.
